I went in the bed for maybe, 12 minutes, and I came out a BROWN WOMAN. For real! I swear. The beds at this place are super strong. But they don't burn you. They just make you really really tan. This is a great tanning salon, but as is the case with all quality tanning salons, you have to pay a price. The cheapest bed is $20. Now, with that being said, you pay for quality at Portofino. The people who work there are affable and friendly, they are diligent to make sure the beds are clean, they provide towels and an assortment of candies! I haven't been able to make it to a beachy vacation this season so I have been having to take trips here to ensure my golden hue and Portofino is my savior! I am the darkest I have ever been. The results are out of control. I'm Mexican, but man..... I look like I literally live in Mexico. My mama is not even this dark. If you go there, use the bed called the 360 degrees. It is 15 minutes.... and it is so much better than other stuff I've tried. The place is clean and they have facewash and stuff for you there. I am not a nutball, but I literally tanned next to Carmen Electra. This place is so cool, I will definitely go back. The staff is chill, this girl Jamie helped me pick out a lotion that wasn't that expensive. I thought that was cool. She could've just told me to get the most expensive one, but instead she told me this Karma one was a steal and would do the same thing. She's right. I used it. Carmen Electra used it. I have been a regular at Portofino for 2 years or so (ever since I moved from LA). Of course I prefer the real sun, but since I am stuck in the city, this has been my tanning solution. The store is always clean, the staff friendly, and my tan--as if I was on the beach. On top of the tanning, I recently tried their teeth whitening. I was a BriteSmiles client before and was a little skeptical of teeth whitening at a tanning salon. But I LOVED it! I chose to go for 45 minutes and my teeth look fantastic! (The tan skin doesn't hurt either). I would definitely recommend their tanning, but for people wanting a more affordable teeth whitening, this place is great too. This what I expected when I started tanning in New York instead of New Jersey - high end equipment and yes, a little bit higher bill. I really do like going to Portofino though, so its worth the inflation. At my Jersey place, I feel like I'm going in at my own risk. Not Portofino. Its like having an appointment at a spa or something. May be only 15 minutes, but those 15 minutes are stress free, clean, and give me results that last a lot longer than that. I work in Midtown and use their midtown location for spray tanning (the girl there is awesome), but on the weekends I tend to shop in Soho and stop by this place for a weekly pick me up. This place rocks! Great machines compared to what I was used to. It is definitely better than those other places with rows and rows of the same machine (I won't name names). Live in SOHO, work in Murray Hill. I use both locations but this one is extra special. Never know who you might see! Not to mention that massage chair - wish I could make an appointment for that! Definitely call and make an appointment if you are going in the afternoon/evening and don't want to wait (Not that the wait is a bad thing, like I said that massage chair rocks and I've seen a few high profile people!). This salon is the place to be (without talking about it!) I try to hide the fact that I tan...and Portofino gives me a constant glow that I can swear to others is just ""natural"". In my line of work, I would be embarrassed if everyone knew I was sneaking to a tanning salon. I once went to another salon, because it was maybe FIVE BUCKS cheaper..... it was NOT worth it! I came into the office the next day red and puffy....and uneven. Portofino has beds that bronze me without the red - they are called High Pressure Beds and they are like a nice day in the breezy sunshine. Enough color to brighten me up but not so much that I'm still smoking the next morning. I give it two thumbs up (just don't tell anybody I said so! :) more

I've been going to Porfofino Tanning Centers for a long time now. The staff is really nice and the space is really clean. The tanning beds great and I never have to wait. I tend not to tan very easily and have been tanning at several tanning salons, but it never stays and I never get that bronzed, tan look. I can't tan in the sun because I just burn. My only option is the spray tanning which i tried at portofino in soho. the spray tanning booth was not messy at all and it evenly applied a great color. I look great and I'm really happy with the results. spray tanning is a great alternative to regular tanning and the packages at portofino are very reasonable. more
