Best

My two year old loves the play area and toys (mostly Ikea). The coffee and scones are excellent.

Chocolate Crossant 10/11/2008

Love their choco crossant. It's not as buttery as you'd think, as the inside is more doughy than flake. Nice atmosphere this place and always smell like fresh baked goods or their sandwitches. It's a great hang out place, very casual. more

I could really take it or leave it. 8/28/2006

My brother-in-law loves this place for their oatmeal, so we always tend to go when the family is in town. I'm not in love with Louisa's. I'd like to be. I like the idea of a little neighborhood cafe where you can have lunch or breakfast, but the thing is I'; I'm never impressed with their menu, and the food never tickles me. The service is always good, and I'm never disappointed with that aspect, but to me the food is nothing to write home about. more

Homey, arty, easy-going 5/17/2006

The baked goods are hearty and authentic, the painted tables and art on the walls make it an inviting hangout. When I was there last, they had some old Billie Holliday songs playing in the background, and I sat by the window and ate apple cinnamon rolls and listened to my friend tell about her relationship troubles. It's an open, freeing kind of atmosphere where good conversation can happen. Sundays get a little crazed because there are zillions of families and groups of friends there and the lines get long. Counter people are fallible, but nice about correcting their mistakes. This is one of my favorite places. more

Nice Bakery & Lunch Spot on Eastlake 3/10/2006

I don't get to Eastlake often, but yesterday I had a chance to eat at Louisa's. First time I've actually sat down and eaten there. Nice spot. They have a good assortment of baked goods, make a tasty sandwich for lunch and round it out with homemade soup. KPLU plays jazz in the background. They serve Cafe Vita coffee. It's got a nice relaxed feel to go with the food. Oh, and they have free wi-fi and don't mind if you hang out a while. more

Louisa's is great 2/14/2006

I've lived in Eastlake for almost 6 years now and go to Louisa's fairly regularly, and I've never experienced any rude service -- but YMMV. The service can occasionally be slow, but within the last 6 months, things seem like they've improved. It's a little less crowded than it used to be (maybe because a few people would rather do the new corporate coffee thing down the street), so maybe that's had a positive effect on speediness. At any rate, the food is great for what it is, but maybe a bit overpriced on some items (as some have mentioned). Free WiFi too. more

Classic Seattle placew 2/3/2006

I'm with Brad on this one, I kind of like places that are this eclectic. There is "corporate coffee" down the street at an immaculate Starbucks, so go there if you want ever smiling service. Personally, I agree that the place is slow to serve (although I've never had rude folks). I will say that my very favorite coffee shop (now sadly demolished to make way for a bigger Cafe Lagos) was the Daily Grind. Jackson who ran it was positively a character and could be very rude, but I just loved that. A place with personality. The bagels are good and so are the soup and sandwiches. Also the coffee is OK, but mainly it is the atmosphere. Long live the Daily Grind and the long dead Surrogate Hostess, this place keeps up the tradition of interesting places run by interesting people. more

A.M. delight 11/15/2005

This morning I got up and out of the house in time to make it to Louisa's Judy Tuesdays to get a free coffee and boy, was it worth it. I paid an extra 50 cents for extra chocolate (I am not the largest coffee fan) and it was delicious. In addition, I paid $1.95 for the best muffin i've had in a long time (do you think this is expensive? i don't, you should see the size of it) . Raspberry Muffin, by far the best item on the menu that i've have so far... i have yet to try the good looking brownies... more

Decent food and great ambience but lousy service 10/6/2005

If Louisa's improved their service and the attitude of their servers (and owner!), it would rate much higher. The pastries, sandwiches and entrees are good, and their ambience is great, but you have to wait FOREVER to get your food, and the people taking your order are often snarky (although Louisa herself can be the snarkiest). The self-serve coffee pots are often empty, and Louisa absolutely freaks out if you touch them when you ask for them to be refilled. I really want to like this place, but until they speed up their service a bit and improve their attitude, I don't think I'll be back. more

Yummy Breakfast Spot 8/19/2005

My boyfriend and I love going out the breakfast. We recently tried Louisa's and will definitely be back. The atmosphere is great. It feels like a small town restaurant and you feel welcomed on your first visit. The omlette's are great and I can't wait to go back to try the homemade granola or one of the amazing looking pastries. more

Big buttery pastries=an Eastlake institution 8/18/2005

Louisa’s Bakery is an Eastlake institution. On weekday mornings, the tables inside are full of chattering neighbors, business people and groups of various interests and activities. And in the spring in summer, people snap up the tables on the sidewalk out front and sip iced coffee with their pets (the pets generally prefer water). For good reason—the pastries are big, fluffy and buttery (DELICIOUS!) and the coffees and teas are consistent. Eclectic decor and free wi-fi. more

Great place to start the day! 8/3/2005

Louisa's has great food, especially for breakfast! The bakery goods are delicious, ample and can be served warm. The cinnamon buns are incredible and difficult to refuse. They make great hot cereals, quiches and to-order egg dishes. The atmosphere is homey and friendly. The walls often feature local artist's creations. The staff, especially owners Luise and Michael, are very friendly and helpful. The cookies, especially the bar cookies are also very special. I have often bought a variety of the brownies, Nanimo lemon bars, cut them in quarters and served them to company. Of course, if I am honest, I have to confess I did not make them! Try it. You will return to Louisa's. more

Good food....BUT.... 7/29/2005

I used to work in Eastlake and made Louisa's one of my regular lunching venues - which means that I really did like the food there. However, I have to agree with some of the other reveiwers that there is one thing that keeps Louisa's from being a perfect 10. I have waited for a toasted bagel for over 10 minutes on numerous occasions. On a weekend afternoon this would not be a problem, but on my way to work, this is just too long. I have also waited for 15 or 20 minutes for a salad - again too long when you are in even the slightest hurry. If Louisa's could speed up the turnaround it would warrant a spot closer to the top of the list. more

Nothin' Special 5/23/2005

While Louisa's has a friendly laid back atmosphere, some cool art on the walls and some nice seating, I can't get over a couple of tragic flaws. First the prices. 7 bucks is at the top end of what I am willing pay far a ham sandwich even if I'm starving and $9 is definitely too much to pay for a tuna melt no matter how artsy the setting. Then there is the slow service. Often orders seem to come out of the kitchen in no particular order and even simple cold sandwiches can sometime take more then 15 minutes to appear. Lastly, they manage to over-do many of my simple deli favorites. Random ingredients are liberally added to even the most standard of menu items. While I understand some people like that extra bit of "flavor" in their lunch, my beloved simple tuna melt was violated with so many chunks of celery, pickles and onions that there really didn't seem to be any tuna in it. Yuck. more

Classic Seattle Coffee Place 5/3/2005

I spent an hour at Louisa's this morning enjoying a latte and catching up on my email on their free wifi. It''s a typical Seattle coffee joint - hip, mismatching tables, comfy seating, and hot black good coffee. I sat in the corner and was left alone, which is exactly what I wanted this morning. more

Massive sandwiches and friendly people on Eastlake 4/4/2005

After incubating for several months in my basement, Judy's Book just moved into a 'real' office on Eastlake, an easy walk from the neighborhood's retail core. We just started exploring the local eateries for lunch, and hit an early home run at Louisa's Cafe & Bakery. Located in an airy corner storefront near the corner of Eastlake and Roanoke, Louisa's specializes in hearty, healthy bakery & cafe fare, most of which is prepared onsite in their open kitchen. A long row of bakery cases is loaded with great breads and sweets, and the menu features a rotating selection of soups, salads and (my personal favorite) absolutely massive sandwiches, served on thick slices of their own store-made bread. On weekends, they serve breakfast all day -- centered around traditional favorites like omelettes with toast & potatos, oatmeal and granola. The decor can most accurately be described as "college town eclectic" -- salvaged church pews, a random assortment of sturdy wooden chairs, and an equally sturdy (and random) array of cafe tables. The general mood is equally informal -- everyone behind the counter boasts a sunny, relaxed disposition, accessorized with a minimum of two tattoos (and an optional piercing). Patrons bus their own tables, and free wi-fi attracts more than a few all-day regulars. I'm looking forward to exploring the many competing lunch offerings along Eastlake, but I know that Louisa's will be a regular stop on the circuit. more
