High prices for worn-out clothing. 11/4/2010

I find the same problem at both the Grandville and Kentwood locations: Plato's items are overpriced, especially considering that the racks are stuffed with worn-out things that wouldn't even sell for $2-$3 at Goodwill. An employee told me that they don't consider pilling to be "damage." Huh?? The few times I have been there, I have wondered how they stay in business. more

Overpriced 5/25/2010

They do have some great deals but it's on occasion. Other than that it's super over priced. The music is a bit loud at times and there's always a chemical clean smell (gives me a headache) but the clothes are in really good conditions. more

Snobs Here 7/5/2009

The clerks in here are so rude, they don't even look at the stuff you bring in. They took 5 minutes and determined that I had NOTHING of value in the 4 boxes of clothing I brought in. I had very recent and stylish things from Hollister, AE, Abercrombie, Forever 21, The Limited, Banana Republic, Guess, etc. I took the same stuff to One Girl's Treasure and they examined everything...they took at least 20 pieces of clothing and paid me $50!!! AND they were very friendly! I'll never go back to Plato's of Grandville. more

Nice consignment store, but be prepared to dig 12/28/2005

This is a consignment store that caters to the teens. It is a fabulous place for parents who don't want to spend the money on designer clothes for the kids. They carry a lot of higher end clothes and have excellent prices. They are fairly picky about what they will take. The nice thing is that if you have clothes to drop off, they will give you a time to come back and they will pay you on the spot for your items that they will sell. It is packed with clothes and usually busy at any given time of the day. You are bound to at least find a couple items you like! more

Prices high for used clothes 12/21/2005

Plato's Closet is an upscale consignment shop offering teen and young adult fashions. I found their prices to be a bit high. $18 for a used summer dress from the Deb shop? Seems like a waste of money. They also had jeans from Paper, Cloth and Denim, they were used, the original price was around $160, but they still wanted $45 for them. The line for the fitting room was over twenty minutes and nothing ended up fitting, seems that their sizes are off or something. Others have had this problem also. more

I feel at home here! 6/28/2005

Plato's Closet is an excellent teen-geared secondhand shop. All the clothing is pretty reasonable. $3 for a shirt that is not outdated? Not bad! Everything is very neat in this place, hanging on hangers appropriately. The only bad thing is that a lot of the clothes fit just a tad bit off...one reason why they were probably given up for consignment in the first place. more
