Been here 3 times and it has been tasty and cheap every time. Great atmosphere. They have a really neat boat turned fountain hanging in the front room. They've got a really goo...

if that's what you're after, then looking no further than Planet, which not merely went downhill after it moved from its humble original space on Bedford Ave, but became a monstro...

Planet Thailand 212 10/15/2006

I went to the Manhattan location (PT212), which is tucked away on 24th St. between 5th and 6th. The decor is beautiful, the tables situated at angles around the restaurant so it doesn't feel crowded even when it's packed. I was with a group of ten and we were promptly seated and well taken care of by an attentive and very courteous waiter. The food was good -- not mindblowing, but good, and got mixed reviews from our party (though no one was entirely dissatisfied). My chicken Massaman curry was a bit sweet (the guy next to me had tofu Massaman and said the same). The birthday guest of honor loved her seafood noodles. One girl said her duck was a tad overdone, another raved about her shrimp. Dessert was phenomenal, however -- both the ginger creme brulee and the green tea creme brulee were delicious (and very different!), and the fruit tempura with various yummy dipping sauces was a huge hit. Overall, it was a solid pick for a group of mixed vegetarians and non-vegetarians, and a nice place for a birthday dinner (the DJ played a cool techno version of Happy Birthday for us). It was a bit loud, but on a Saturday night in Manhattan, comes with the territory. more

One of the best Thai places in NYC 5/21/2006

Planet Thailand has some of the best Thai food in teh city. I discovered it when I lived in Brooklyn, and I still go back out to Williamsburg from time to time just for their ginger chicken. Food is light, flavorful and non-greasy. The menu is very accomodating to those who like both mild and hot food and is fairly vegetarian friendly as well. And their rice is fantastic. Be warned, it's always mobbed at meal hours. On the plus side, it's really cheap. more

Planet Thailand 3/31/2006

Nice modern decor, good atmosphere, music playing in the background and fanatastic thai food at a great price. i went on a sunday evening and got a table straight away and the service was prompt. the best thai food i have had in a long time. i ordered the habichan chicken and shrimp with fried rice and it was delicious and the portions were generous. i will be going back for more. The place is not quiet, it is underpiced, however the waiters are snobby. However the place has nice food and some atmosphere. Addresses: 141 North 7th Street between Bedford and Berry more

A Williamsburg institution 10/7/2005

Food is good and affordable. Huge beer & sake selection. Pretty big menu too (Thai & Japanese). The atmosphere is cool and interesting with its high ceilings, two huge rooms, nightly dj, and always interesting wall art. (I've never seen anything offensive on the walls!). I always enjoy going to Planet Thailand. It's where I fell in love with Chicken Katsu (Japanese fried chicken with a sort of bbq sauce) more

One of the 3 Thai restaurants within 3 blocks 9/4/2005

Planet Thailand is my least favorite of the three area Thai restaurants- Sea and Tai Thai being the other two. I recently went here on a Saturday night with a party of 6. I will admit that the food was pretty good, I had a set of dumplings and sweet & sour shrimp. The upsetting part was that I was seated in the back room. The back room showcases a HUGE wall mural which, while interesting, has many nude upper-torso female body parts within it. This mural apparently helps to cover up the fact that there is a two foot gash in the wall (I'm assuming that was made by one too many people pushing their chairs back into the wall). There has been no attempt made to fix this huge hole in the wall, which aggrivates me when I'm paying for a meal. more

Worst food ever 8/4/2005

Chinese, Japanese and Thai fare. All salty and poorly cooked. This place is packed all the time -- it has a cool fountain and is right off Bedford Ave., but the food is atrocious. It's not even edible most of the time -- I think I've only gone there because of the atmosphere and it can accomidate a large number of people for parties and occasions. Seriously, the food is bad, but not expensive. You're better off going to a take-out place down the street, dim the lights in your apartment, and play a crowd noise CD on your stereo. more
