vegetarian chinese groceries 8/17/2005

Hoven foods in the International District is a lot like many of the tiny stores that dot the ID—it has crowed shelves and super narrow aisles and more types and brands of soy sauce, oyster sauce and hot sauce than you can count on both hands and maybe your feet. What sets Hoven foods apart is they cater to Vegetarians. Vegans beware because vegetarian at Hoven foods sometimes includes fish and eggs. There’s a wide selection of frozen dim sum, fresh pressed five spice tofu and all the canned and jarred goods you could ever want. more

Chinese grocery 8/5/2005

This is a little Chinese (or I think more accurately Taiwanese) food store in the International District. They of course don't have the selection of Uwajimaya, but it'w worth checking out for Chinese groceries. One of my favorite things here that I can't find anywhere else are cookies with a green tea filling. more

Especially interesting Chinese grocery 7/27/2005

Hoven Foods is a little Chinese grocery in the ID, around the corner from the Post Office. But along with all the typical supplies for Chinese cooking, they have fresh, homemade noodles, and a freezer full of interesting dumplings and other Shanghai-style snacks. Quite a different selection than most asian groceries-- all the ones I have tried are fabulous! more
