Best

I think, without question, the best wine shop is Champion Wine Cellars on Denny. They really know the wines they sell and have been in the business a long time. The selection is...

Seattle's best wine shop? Not by a long shot. It's a nice little shop and I LOVE Michael's wordy little POP signage (except for those times when he wanders off into some prosey di...

For the tourists 2/9/2010

These guys have a good selection of Northwest wine, and some wine from the rest of the world too. Help is spotty. The big problem is that their prices are higher than almost anyone else. This is a great stop for tourists, being in the middle of the market, but locals are going to do better elsewhere. more

Pike and Western Wine Shop is Great 6/21/2006

We go there to buy wine and get educated. The selection is terrific, particularly of Washington wines, and the service is excellent. They really know their stuff and are happy to talk you through the difficult decisions of what to buy for what occasions, meals, etc. more

Great shop! 4/21/2006

I've been buying my special occassion wine here for nearly eight years now. They have a great location - on the corner of Pike and Western at the northern tip of the market, thus their name! Each time I've been in the staff has been more than happy to assist me in picking out the perfect bottle of wine for both my menu and my budget. They will not treat you badly if you don't "know" wine - on the contrary, they are happy to help out and welcome novice wine-drinkers into the shop! more

Good Option in a Pinch 8/21/2005

There's a number of seriously good wine shops in Seattle, and although I wouldn't consider these guys among the best, they're solid for selection and fair on price. I'm not sure how much of their success is attributable to their location in the Market, but they've built out enough selection and a decent enough reputation to keep me coming back. They also carry complete lines of Reidel stems, which not every wine seller will do. Specialty include Northwest wines, especially Washington and Oregon, but the California section holds its own. I find myself stopping in mostly to try something interesting at a tasting or if I'm in the Market anyway. more

Local flavor 8/21/2005

A wine store which takes its wares seriously enough to pull down the shades on the Western-facing windows every afternoon, this is a store that inspires confidence in your choices. With a sale on some varietal, one can find a bargain on virtually any visit. One can also utilize the well-informed staff to find a wine to compliment that day’s purchases at Pike Place Market. more

Pike and Western Wine Shop 3/2/2005

I have been shopping at Pike and Western for the past three years and am really impressed with the selection of wines, and the staff's graciousness towards novice wine drinkers like myself. Their recommendations are usually spot-on and they are respectful of any price boundaries you tell them when making a purchase. If they don't have the wine in stock, they are wonderful at tracking it down -- no matter how obscure. Be sure to take time to read the large index cards with staff comments and recommendations, not only are they humorous, but they don't bombard you with industry ratings. more
