Pier 39 8/11/2006

First of all, it must be said that Pier 39 is a tourist trap. That being said, it is a fun place to go. As the name implies, it is a pier filled with shops and attractions of all types. There are also all sorts of places to eat- from counter service crab cakes, ice cream, crepes, and sour dough bread to chain restaurants and more elegant sit down restaurants. Near the end of the pier sea lions have taken residence and the sight is smelly, loud, and wonderful to see. The views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge are wonderful at the end of the pier. Although it is touristy, Pier 39 is worth a visit. more

Hmmmn, I'm surprised to see so much love for Pier 39. I hadn't been there for ages, but when my cousin came to visit a couple months ago, of course we had to go. Pier 39 is a must see on the tourist trail. Granted, the views are amazing from the end of the pier and the sea lions and you have to stop here to buy tickets to Alcatraz...but other than that, I don't like it. Lots of tacky shops selling generic souvenirs, overpriced restaurants with mediocre food, weird street performers. Take your relatives here for a bit and then move on to the better sights. more

i've lived here in sf for over 25 years and would still visit pier 39 on occassion. the atmosphere is unbeatable. lots of restaurants, shops and other attractions. the sea lions are right there with a cute history. ofcourse the clam chowder and for dessert apple candy! there's even a carousel in the center plus magic shows on the weekends. great place to bring the family or hang out with friends. more

Entertainment for the family 11/13/2005

This is the quintessential pier! When I visited this place I was amazed by the variety of shops and restaurants here. It has Bubba Gump Shrimp, some very good places serving clam chowder, and fast food chains as well. The gift shops are also worth checking out, for they sell everything from bath salts to chocolates. I loved people watching and walking around and smelling the ocean. You'll have a good time! more

Everyones favorite pier 8/18/2005

This is everyones favorite pier. Probably cuz its th only pier people really go to! Hahah, other piers are more for boats, not people. But this is a place where people go to on the weekends. Maybe visit a restaurant. Let the kids play on the arcade or go on the carousel. There are TONS of souvenir shops on pier 39, obviously all over priced. Everyones favorite part though is when you get to the end of the pier. There is always a crowd of people watching the dozens of sea lions laying out and enjoying the sunshine. There are also stations to open up oysters for pears. And I really like to go to the booth that sells mini donuts, so fattening, but so good. more

Fun place to spend the day 8/17/2005

I am one of the locals, but I still love visiting Pier 39 every so often. I avoid all those tourist type shops, and go to the other shops that sell more unique items. There is so much to do at the pier that it would take a while for you to get bored. There are shops, restaurants, arcades, a carousel, and also an aquarium type exhibit. more

Pier 39 8/16/2005

San Francisco's Pier 39 is an awesome place for tourists to visit. You can see the sea lions, on the wharf, there is a merry-go-round for kids to ride, an arcade for video games, and many gift shops for souveniers and other great things to buy. It is a great place for friends and family to visit, and is one of San Francisco's most famous tourist attractions. more

Fun and shop 8/10/2005

At Pier 39, you can have fun and shop at the same time. They have a lot of stores and especially gift shops. One of the fun things to do is ride the "Magic Carpet Ride". You and your family go in and get taped in a green room and then it is slapped on to an animation on your ride around San Francisco. The price is pretty high if you want a video or picture. There are also lots of places to eat. more

Pier 39 8/8/2005

Pier 39 is a very fun and exciting place to share with family and friends. Usually the area is full of tourists but lots of locals come by often. They have lots of gift shops and food shops. They also have a merry go around ride and arcade for the kids to play in. Definitely stop by the vendors to get your portrait drawn or watch painted people do robotic movements or stay very still for a long period of time. Pier 39 is the place to be to relax, eat good food and have a good time! more
