I'm from Chicago, land of foodies but we didn't have an Angelo's. The building is very unassuming but it's what's inside that counts, the freshest ingredients and great recipes. ...

I've been a faithful customer of Angelo's for the last 10 years. I'm sad to say that tonight's visit was my last. Ever since Angelo retired the food is not the same. There is a...

Good pizza, slow service, a little underwhelming 11/28/2007

Maybe our expectations were too high after reading some of the reviews. I'm a pizza fan and my wife likes a really good pizza. \r \r There was only one waitress, but only two tables occupied during our Tuesday night visit. I was surprised that it took her so long to check on us. When we ordered, I was disappointed to learn neither beer or wine is available, despite the menu and the advertisements. \r \r We ordered the double crust supreme pizza. It took 30 minutes. The flavor was good, the crust was perfect, but all the toppings were clumped together in the middle of the pizza, leaving alot of crust and cheese.\r \r I had to track down the waitress to get a box so we could pay and leave.\r \r Basically a good pizza joint, but minus the beer list, long wait and quality control issues and I would rate it higher. I did notice alot of takeout business while we were there, but I'm not sure I would pay for it vs Pizza Hut or Papa John's. Pros: Decent Pizza Cons: Service more

#1 pizza in Tennessee! 11/9/2007

I travel all over Tennessee for business and I got to say, i stop in at Angelos twice a week. The food is GREAT! My business is a food critic. I have ate at many Pizza Parlors to decide which is the best and I have to give it to Angelo. Joey's in brentwood is ok, they have bad attitudes, Sals is now owned by russian people and there not so hot. Pizza Perfect is too busy and not worth the wait, Pie in the Sky tastes like Cardboard, Mafiaosas is decent, but not authentic. I highly recommend Angelos! Nick, Sara, and Angelo and there staff arte great. They have good additudes, the restuarant is always clean, and the food is delicious, I reccommend the Cadillac Pizza ( Double Crust) It is loaded with all the meats. I finally met Nicks look a like brother Joe and I got to say, Pizza is this family's business, and there darn good at it! They need to open a store in Symrna where i live! Thank God for ANGELOS! Pros: Great food, Good looking Pizza, excellent chicken parm! Cons: Need more locations! more

No complaints here. 9/6/2007

My wife and I moved to town in June of 07 and had angelos recommended to us by the guy who installed our cable. We gave it a try and thought the pizza was awesome. I would recommend getting it double crust or getting their deep-dish style pizza. I've been all over the world and had pizza in just about every state. I would definitly say that Angelos is closer to the top than the bottom of pizza joints i've enjoyed over the years. Give it a try.\r \r Pros: great taste, quick service, good service, great desserts (try the cheesecake).\r \r Cons: location, lack of parking (not a lot to complain about) more

Best NY pizza joint in Nashville! 8/20/2007

My husband went to West Point and when we went there he thought it was great how they are a family owned business from NY City and they act like real NYers but their food is fabulous! You must go! more

Not Like the Rest of the Reviews 8/15/2007

Being from NY and experiencing some of the best pizza in the world on Long Island, Brooklyn and the Bronx, I was hoping for something remotely close based on all of the great reviews I read. I ordered an extra large pie fresh from the oven with 1/2 extra cheese and 1/2 pepperoni. It was just OK. There is nothing special about the crust, cheese or the sauce. Joey's House of Pizza in Brentwood and Samboli's in Spring Hill are better if you are trying to compare to ""real"" NY pizza. On a positive note, the owners and other employees were extremely helpful and friendly. Pros: Friendly Atmosphere Cons: Self Service for Everything more

BEST PIZZA IN THE WORLD 8/6/2007

I have been eating at this place for years.i would only go for lunch because at dinner the wait was to long.i think yalls new night time service is what your place was missing.Fast food or not you guys make the best pizza in the world. Pros: the best pizza in the world. more

pizza is good, changes are not so good 8/1/2007

Family and I have been eating there for as long as it has been at that location, but we DO NOT like the fact that now we have to order up front and be yelled at from the counter to come get our food. Is it now a fast food place like everyone else on Murfreesboro Rd? We liked that in the past to come in and have a seat and have table service, That is what a restaurant is! Now it has become like Captain D'S . WE will not be back, and will tell all of our friends. Which are a lot. It is too bad that you changed things. Especially when we saw our favorite sever standing there and asked why she was not waiting on tables. Go back to table service! And we might be back to enjoy our pizza. Being yelled at to come get our food is, well all I can say is that I will be having pizza some where else. Want to add some more info. Some friends of mine eat @ Angleo's over the weekend, and told me that they were NOT pleased with the changes. Had two small children with them and had a hard time going back to the counter to get their food, and will never go back. If they wanted counter service they will go to Captain D's or Arby's. But won't be back to Picnic Pizza. It is a shame that you all changed things. And seeing tables that are dirty, they said it looked like a pig pen. Pros: can't think of any Cons: the yelling from Angelo is awful, having to order up front is not good. dity talbes more

Worth the drive 7/22/2007

Angelo's was a little out of the way, but after reading some reviews I wanted to check it out. My title says it all. If you want the best pizza in Nashville, I believe this is it. \r Run by husband and wife, He makes the pizza while she engages customers.. He is from Sicily and she is from Palermo, so if you love Thai Chicken or BBQ Pizza, then stick to one of the other over priced competitors. Nice people, great New York style pizza. more

Just like back home!!!! 4/25/2007

Picnic Pizza is THE best little neighborhood restaurant around. As a transplanted New Yorker the first thing you miss about back home is the FOOD. These guys make you feel at home from the time you walk in till the time you waddle out. I've been there a ton of times and never been disappointed. Great family too!!!!! Pros: Everything more

YOU NEED TO EAT HERE!!!!! 4/8/2007

I was born and raised just outside NYC (north NJ), and one of the things I missed dearly when I first came down here was a good pizza...a spectacular, authentic NY pizza. Picnic Pizza is the long-lost friend that re-connects me with my childhood eats. It truly is unlike any other pizza in town. Picnic Pizza is NOT just about pizza though...finding a full complement of italian food that is simply delicious is difficult. Simply...you need to eat here. My personal favorite is the manicotti, but trust me when I tell you that there is not a bad choice on their menu. The ham calzone is also a favorite of mine, and whatever you want in it, you just tell them.\r \r As great as their food is, there is so much more to enjoying a trip to Picnic Pizza. My favorite reason for patroning Picnic Pizza is supporting the spirit of kind and wonderful people who do great business. For the last 6+ years, Angelo and Sara have given me the pleasure of enjoying any and every opportunity to eat at their restaurant. In the last couple years, Sara has passed her share of the workload to their son, Nick, and he has done a great job in carrying that torch. I can't tell you how many times Linda has waited on me when I have dined there, but she has always done her job magnificently. Bring your children, bring your grandparents, bring your appetite!!\r \r To Angelo, Sara, Nick...everyone who has contributed to what makes your restaurant so special, I say thanks to each of you for all that you do. It is always my pleasure to patron you...to invest in you...because you care, and you do what you do with a passion. Your food is incredible and it is my wish that with every passing day, someone new gets the pleasure of coming to that same realization.\r \r -Doug Pros: Special people, Great food!!! Cons: There isn't ONE!! more

MAGNIFICO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1/30/2007

I live WAY outside Nashville and like to have pizza's made, but not cooked. Most restaurants are NOT accommodating. However my first visit to Angelo's was no problem. I placed a very large order and while waiting I was given a huge piece of pizza to try and was immediately hooked. The only thing that I would do differently is specify a large order of pepperoncini?s on the side instead of the tiny cup that I received. My guests were ecstatic by what Angelo concocted. \r \r And...he suggested freezing the pizza's. That may be a great option! more

REAL Italian pizza, great lunch buffet, great monday night specials 1/18/2007

We come from a town called the ""pizza capital of the world"", and they don't have anything back home thats this good! If you are tired of carboard chain style pizza you need to try Angelo's. Their lunch buffet is always fresh, and there are pizza specials the begining of the week. I love their calzones and lasagna. It's a family run restaurant, thats very welcoming. Real Italian food, by real Italians. Pros: best sicillian more

Best pizza in Nashville 1/13/2007

When you walk in you are always greeted and if you are a regular you can bet Angelo or Nick will talk to you as they work preparing their delicious New York style pizza. The lunch buffet is always great and when I'm on my way home and need something to eat these guys are always at the top of my list. Pros: Friendly mom and pop resteraunt with great food Cons: parking can be a hassle and the dining room gets packed for the lunch buffet more

disappointed in the recent changes 1/13/2007

Since the opening of Angelo's Picnic Pizza, this has been one of my favorite restaurants, but no longer. Now there's no table service; you have to order at the counter and then try to listen for them to yell out your name. The food's still okay, but the restaurant is too loud and unpleasant to be enjoyable. Now it's just another takeout pizza place and there are a few dozen of them in Nashville--and most of them make home deliveries, which Picnic Pizza does not! Plus, getting in and out of their parking lot is crazy now that people are just trying to ""run in"" the front door and pick up an order. How I miss the good ole' days when our favorite server greeted us by name and started filling our drink orders before we ever got seated (she knew us that well!) I'm afraid they've ruined a really wonderful little family restaurant. Pros: Food still okay, but I hate the changes Cons: No more table service; just another takeout pizza place more

You love pizza? This is your new home. 11/28/2006

By far the best pizza. Period. They have a great buffet with many items to choose from other than pizza. It is a small location so you better get there early for the lunch buffet. Prices are reasonable and the cooks are all Italian. This is the real deal. Pros: Authentic dishes, all taste great Cons: no frills dining room more

Sunday buffet 7/18/2006

I'm from NY so I know pizza, and this is the best I've had since I moved here 6 years ago. The buffet was great, had 5 different pizzas, pasta w/ shrimp, spaghetti & meatballs, salad and for dessert: cannolis. Won't go anywhere else from now on. Pros: Best pizza buffet anywhere Cons: On a busy corner, traffic can be a pain. more

Small things pack a big punch! 2/2/2006

Even though the building is small and can get lost next to it's larger neighbors, the food is really good and the staff very nice. Everything's homemade, so it has that really fresh flavor to it. It is very small and can get busy, so you may want to go a little early or come in a little later. Very good! Pros: Homemade, Inexpensive, Tasty! Cons: Few Tables, Little Parking more

User review by kmf1137 12/12/2005

When is driving and hour and a half worth for pizza? When it's Angelos!!! I personally own a business had a customer tell me about the place it was 7 o'clock at night I looked at my business partner and said ""let's go check the place out"" we got directions from the laptop while in the car, got lost on Bell Rd... Called Sarah a couple of times, and finally sat down to the best pizza I have ever had. But it's not only about that, the family here are great... Laughs are many, conversations are great, memories are made... The main reason, The food is excellent. Pros: Friendly, Clean, Inexpensive more
