Worst

Walk into this cozy (code word for cramped) place, where you're made to feel like you're an afterthought. The scene feels like a salon version of Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmare...

second time around not as great 12/4/2005

I had my hair straighted in 2004 by a wonderful person no longer there so Peter worked on me this time. Unfortunately for me a regular client got more of his attention. Peter left me unattended several times to cater to his regular client. Having been thru the process, i knew you had to wait 48 hours before washing. when i did, the edges all around my face were still wavy, the hair underneath had a huge wave and at least an inch of hair was not straightened. i was extremely disappointed. i may not be one of the rich wives that go to this salon on a daily basis, but i paid just as much and i gave a very decent tip to Peter, his helper and shampoo person. i don't doubt he's quite talented, however, i should have been treated the same as his regular clients. I had my hair straightened by Genenvia (sp?). She was wonderful. My hair is soft, shiney, and straight. It feels wonderful! I highly recommened this place the people are nice, and perform wonderful work. more

Marvelous ! 11/15/2005

I went to the Peter Louis Salon for a TR with my very damage hair due to a ""vertical curl reducer"" that I had done in a salon here in Maryland. But Maria did an amazing job (almost a miracle) with the TR and now my hair is not just straight but soft and shiny as well. I'm also thrilled with the products she recommend me, the Peter Louis Salon TR shampoo and conditioner. I recommend Maria she is the best and took great care of my fragile and damage hair during all the process. Thank you!! more

Excellence Without Attitude! 9/22/2005

I recently had the pleasure of going to the Peter Louis Salon for japanese straightening with Maria. I have been to all the top salons in the city, and unfortunately have had the straightening done by other ""top"" stylists as well..what a mistake! Had I known about this lovely, low pressure salon and the extraordinary skill of Maria I could have saved myself time and money. I cannot say enough about how fabulous my hair came out..it is straight, but has some body, takes a set beautifully..but also looks great with 5 minutes of a quick blowdry. Maria is sweet and pleasant and has a great personality..a definite plus if you are going to be sitting for quite a few hours. Most importantly she is precise, and she pays attention to every detail. You cannot go wrong at this salon..ask for Maria, you won't be sorry. Pros: Attentive, No pressure, comfortable more

I just had the Japanese thermal reconditioning done to my hair for the first time last weekend and I am the happiest person alive! Peter is awsome!!! Best Haircut I've ever had! 6/30/2005

I just went to the Peter Louis salon for the first time, and regret that I did not find it earlier. I had a haircut with Rosalba, and she truly is a miracle worker! I came in the most unusual predicament-let's just say that I had just gotten a ""very bad haircut"" somewhere else-and Rosalba knew exactly what to do. Not only did she fix the problem, but she gave me the best haircut I've ever had. This salon has skilled people and none of the pretentiousness. more

I dont understand the hype 6/28/2005

How strange....from reading all of the reviews, it seems like Peter is the only one who works at the salon. I have been there and dont get why all the reviews are so totally awesome about this place. I thought it was completly average. I didnt think it was that great, especially for the price. I feel as if I can go anywhere for the same service and come out with the same result. Not worth the money or the trip. more

EXCELLENT! 3/11/2005

I was in need of a haircut on a Sunday afternoon and Peter Louis was booked until 6pm. However, after he realized my desperation, he managed squeeze me in earlier and gave me a wonderful haircut! Unlike many hair salons i've been to in the city, he actually listened to what i had to say and made great suggestions. He took his time and made me feel like he really cared - that's hard to find in nyc. Excellent salon! more

I'm so happy to have found Peter! After taking the time to listen to all of my hair requirements, Peter gave me the best haircut I've had in years. For the first time in as long as I can remember, I am extremely happy with my haicut. And I've gotten so many compliments. You can be sure that I will go back for my next cut. more

Wonderful Experience 2/15/2005

I went to Peter Louis Salon wanting something very simple...a few highlights and a trim. Like many people, I had someone that I went to for a long time...unfortunately that person was back in MD and did not plan on moving her entire salon with me to the big apple:) Maria was a fantastic colorist and was able to work with me to create EXACTLY what I wanted (it's always scary going to someone new, especially for color). AND PETER was fantastic as well!!! He gave me the perfect cut to frame my face. I am a VERY happy customer. I would DEFINITELY go back again, not only because of their skill, but also because they were SO nice and willing to help me get the look I wanted. Pros: Friendly, Knowledgable, kind more

HORRIBLE! 1/29/2005

How in the world did this salon get a 9.6 rating? I went to Peter Louis and it was horrible! I got the WORST service. The staff was nasty and rude! Peter was totally ignorant of what was going on around him. The staff was arguing among themselves - completely unprofessional! Over the years, I have heard mixed reviews of Peter Louis but thought I would try it myself. What a mistake. There are so many wonderful salons in this city - it's hard to believe this place can stay in business. I urge you not to waste your money. Overall, they were late to begin my appointment. They then rushed me through my treatments to make-up for their tardiness. I had to listen to the petty bickering of Peter Louis' employees. I'm so disappointed. I would be amazed to find this place is still in business in a year. more

Very worth it hair cut 12/9/2004

I am very happy to find somebody that does a true hair cut .Peter is the Master of all haircuts .I do have a weird shaped head and he is the only one that gave me a good haircut that hides the imperfection of my scalp. I was recommended to Peter Louis by my brother's girlfriend from LA and boy was she right. Peter has changed my life with his Japanese Straightening. My Regular stylist had recommended not to do it but now he says my hair looks amazing better than it ever did and I save an hour each day blowdrying!! Pros: Friendly, Great Work, They work late more

I have been to many places in New York City to get my hair done ,I always like to try different stylists ,but now my search is over .I stopped at Peter Louis Salon where I did receive indeed a great service . Not only the stylists do hair ,but they treat it as an art .Peter is a great haircutter and Genoveva does wonderful color and I also looked at her portofolio with extensions clients.They look great . Best Japanese Straightening /Extensions 12/8/2004

My friend said I should go to Peter Louis for Japanese Straightening because they have done over 2000 people with this process ,but I did not know if they did it on men also .My hair is also has color and so I was still not sure .But I said I should go at least for a consultation.I was pleased with what I heard on consultation so I decided to do it. Peter did my straightening and I was really impressed with the quality and look of my hair.After that I found out that I could have 100% damage free highlights ,so Genoveva did apply some great highlights with thin strands of extensions that they looked amazing and natural. I have been a client of Rosalba for 10 years and think she is absolutely great. She is highly skilled, personable, warm and trustworthy. It is very hard to find a stylist with these qualities and do not see myself with another hair stylist as long as she is working. more
