Don't let the minimalist location fool 5/20/2012

Don't let the minimalist location fool you! I've been a loyal customer at Pesto's for well over 10 years. They have grown from a family pizza and pasta joint into a full out wine bar with a great atmosphere, yummy appetizer and dinner offerings and entertainment! If you enjoy hearing a little jazz and watching some seasoned musicians having a great time while they're playing, all while sampling some good wine and food, this is the place to go. The only downside is they are starting to outgrow their space a bit so finding a seat during happy hour and weekends can be a challenge. Go early! Also, the staff is pretty friendly and the faces don't change every time you go so it makes it extra comfortable. more

best pizza&wine list 6/19/2008

Have been going to pestos since they opened and i must say i have never had a bad meal or bad service. Have an awesome wine list! I Pros: good atmosphere Cons: needs a bigger bar more

I don't claim to be an italian food guru but I know a good meal at a good price when I see/taste one. Unfortunately, the cost/taste of Pesto's pizza and other food they serve did not match what I've had in the past. The food was not horrible by any means but it wasn't spectacular either. I felt the food was mediocre and definitely over priced. To top it off the waiters and waitresses were not knowledgeable of italian food let alone their own menu. They only have 2 types of pasta to choose from and their ""house"" sauce is nothing more than tomato sauce and a little spice. The pizza was again, not horrible, but very small for the price. All the portions are tiny for the amount they charge. Pros: Soda wasn't flat Cons: Too many to list more

Hidden gem for all transplanted Nyers 7/2/2007

Pestos is great. I have never had a bad pizza here. i was surprised by the one womans review that is was bad. Perhaps they had an off night, even though I have eaten here a lot and have never experienced an off night for them. Service has always been good. They actually have a wondeful catering service too. They catered my brothers wedding/rehearsal dinner and it was like being back in NY. The sausage and peppers brought tears to my eyes-LOL! Now if you don't like Ny style pizza, you won't like it, so that is that. Yes Ny pizza is greasy that is the joy of it! Water is water not gaseline so that was a weird thing to say! I drink tap here all the time and it is fine. It is not Ny tap water but it is better then most Phoenix establishments. This is a hidden gem but I don't want everyone to discover it so I don't have to wait for a table! But seriously try it and make your own mind up. HAPPY EATING. MANGA!!!!!! Pros: all Cons: nothing more

The worst pizza in Arizona and a rip off to boot! 1/2/2007

This pizza was terrible, bad crust and soggy in the middle. Hubby and I have eaten pizza all over Italy, New York and San Francisco and Pesto's is nothing but BAD Arizona pizza. If the guy behind the bar is Sicilian then he should be ashamed of the pizzas they turn out in this place. La pizza di Pesto's fa schiffo. Ask him to translate that one. There is NOTHING Italian about this pizza, it's one step up from Domino's or Papa Johns. I ordered a side of meatballs and cheese and they gave me ONE lousy meatball with a scoop of ricotta and charged $7! The food was terrible and the wait staff was rude. You'd be better off going to Classic Italian Pizza on Rural and Baseline, at least their pizza tastes good even if it is expensive. Sometimes you get what you pay for, clearly the case at Pesto's, cheap ingredients, bad pizza, bad service. Pros: I can't think of one, I didn't like this place at all and their tap water tasted like gasoline Cons: There are too many to list, but mostly disgusting pizza and $7 for ONE meatball. more

On a par with Classic Italian Pizza in Tempe 11/12/2006

Thin crust, delicious toppings, try the white pizzas (Alfredo), you won't regret it. This has become my new favorite pizza place! more

Cose dici? 10/19/2006

Meglio una pollastrella oggi che una gallinaccia domani Pros: Fantastic Bar! Fantastic Bartenders! & OH, I forgot fantastic food Cons: It's a litte small & the bar fills up fast. more

Fantastic Wine Bar!!! 6/16/2006

Pesto's Pizza and Pasta has some of the greatest italian food in the valley! All of which are made from scratch right down to the dressings they use! Not to mention their extensive wine bar with a wine list heaven for all the grape-lovers out there! The owners of the restaurant are determined to make your visit one to remember. All of the staff are incredibly bubbly and there to give you a true old italian meal. The best part, it is great for a family night out for pizza! Their pizzas range from just plain old cheese and pepperoni to gourmet medditeranean and shrimp scampi! If you get the chance, I highly recommend ordering anything with their signature item, Pesto! It is absolutely delicious! New to the restaurant? Ask the servers for the most popular items, you are gauranteed to hear either the Ziti w/ grilled chicken or the Pasta Greek, just some of my favorites as well! Check it out! Great atmosphere for all occassions! more

A gem in a strip center 1/3/2006

Pesto's has consistantly put out a suberb product for a fair price. Now with the addition of the wine bar, the atmosphere is even more inviting than ever. It's great for the family or a get together with the adults. Well worth the trip! Frank and Debbie are awesome and will make you feel at home. more

I LOVE PESTOS 6/21/2003

Pestos pizza and calzones are amazing!! The atmosphere is very welcoming and fun. The Chicken and Baked Ziti is delicious. It is romantic and also a great place for a group meal. Frank and Debbie are wonderful! Pros: Inexpensive, Delicious, Very Friendly more

Great Pizza! 9/24/2002

Great pizza! Very fresh ingredients! Highly recommend the Pesto Pizza and also their stuffed shells. Have tried pizza all over the valley and this place rates among the best. A very casual atmosphere, and they don't deliver, but it's a nice family hangout to grab some pizza and pasta on a weeknight. more
