Wow - so delicious! My husband who is 1/2 Turkish grew up on Mediterranean food, and both of us could not stop raving about the food at Pera. My husband has been to some top-not...

Worst

I was disappointed in the restaurant after a recent lunch experience. I ordered the chicken twist (a cutesy name for a chicken sandwich wrapped in a pita) and was disappointed to...

Very well-done! Yummy food, classy ambiance, and friendly servers! 10/11/2007

This restaurant is truly a gem! The location is a little out of the way, but it's well worth it once you get there! The food is spectacular - our meat was perfectly cooked, and delicious. The staff were so friendly, and explained everything to us in detail. The wine was also authentic and went very well with the food. I loved the ambiance and view of the kitchen, too!! Overall very, very well done!! Pros: delicious food, friendly staff, classy ambiance Cons: location is a bit out of the way more

Greatest Midtown Restaurant 10/7/2007

A group of us went here on a Friday night and had the best time, it was like a little enclave of the West Village in Midtown. First off the service was great, with our waiter being very attentive and helpful in providing suggestions on the extensive menu. Even better was the food. There were so many great appetizers that we decided to get a bunch for the table as none of us could decide which ones we wanted. I would recommend either the fried artichoke hearts or the grape leaves, both were amazing. The biggest surprize on the menu was the chicken entry which probably the best chicken dish any of ever had. Even though it was grilled it was unbelievably moist. Thats not to say the other dishes were not just as good, especially the ribs and baby lamb chops, but the chicken is so much better than most chicken dishes which are fairly similar even at the best NYC restaurant. Amazingly, all of this was very well priced, so you really need to try it. Its a lot of fun in a large group as the menu goes well with group eating, but I'm definitely going to go back for a date as well. Pros: Great menu, fun for groups with interesting drinks and all for a good value more

Superb setting, wonderful food, caring service, kid friendly... 8/28/2007

I am absolutely thrilled with my dining experience at Pera. For starters, the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, I love the open kitchen. The food was excellent, the wait staff caring and helpful, and it was a wonderful place to take my 2 young children out for dinner. This was my first Turkish dining experience and I am just hooked. I've never really eaten lamb before, but the Lamb Brochette was delicious. The meat was very tender, perfectly seasoned, and expertly grilled. The appetizers were delicious, I absolutely recommend the fried artichokes and the hummus, even my 6 year old gave it her stamp of approval! My husband had the signature dish, the Lamb Adana, and it was fantastic. We traded off half our plates! The side dishes are great, I completely recommend the potato casserole and their yogurt sauce, it is divine. Our waiter was wonderful, his knowledge of the menu was extremely helpful and he suggested an excellent wine to compliment the meal. I was very pleasantly surprised to learn they have a fantastic children's menu with many, many choices. The Chicken Brochette was a success with the kids, and their pasta simple yet packed with flavor. The staff was very sweet to my 2 children, who are 6 and 4, and provided a nice children's menu they could keep, as well as markers for coloring inside the little booklet to keep idle hands busy. The desserts were lovely, the Turkish ice cream was a big favorite with the children. We definitely will be going back, it's a joy to find a nice restaurant that has such a lovely setting and I can take my children, who love to eat out. Pros: Ambience, Service, Kid friendly Cons: NONE!!! more

NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! 8/22/2007

I went here for lunch with a friend and as I was leaving the office, I had a co-worker warn me that the food is not good. So since I like to judge for myself, my friend and I went anyway......I would have rather eaten in McD's!! The appetizers were tiny portions and were wierd...along with that I had the crab cakes and as I ate them I felt like they had rocks in them! My friend hated her dish also. I would never go there again. The bar area is cute and trendy, but do not go any further and eat. Its a complete waste of money and its way over priced! Pros: The Bar scene Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE!!! FOOD IS HORRIBLE! more

Wait for service 5/11/2007

Not a fan of the lax in service even just for appetizers. Dont bother to order the choco souffle for dessert as it will take 25 minutes and the waiter will let you know this. Pros: Nice Ambience Cons: Smaller portions, slow service more

Excellent Experience 3/5/2007

Our experience was so great. When we walked in, we loved the decor- very earthy and warm, and very comfortable. Our waitstaff was helpful and friendly, helping us pick a wine and patiently explaining the food. (We were new to Turkish food). We ordered the artichockes which were soo delicious- think of a classier, better, Blooming Onion. We also had the hummus and the beef tartar, and while Im not a huge fan of raw meat, it was very spicy and tasty- it almost didnt really taste like you were eating meat. The grilled calamari salad was served cold, something I had never seen before but was excellent. The lamb adana is thier specialty and it is well deserved. The filet's were perfectly cooked and a great portion size. Pera is grat becuase even if you aren't into Turkish food, they have options that are great for everyone, even vegetarians. I am usually a picky eater and I loved the food there. Definitely order dessert- the oven baked shredded wheat is the most interesting and delicious dessert I have ever tasted. more

Must try for anyone who loves amazing food at a really good price 1/30/2007

This is a fabulous new restaurant in an area that sorely needed one. The food is amazing. To me a cross between Greek and Turkish it has fabulous finds at very reasonable prices. App's are around $10 and include fried artichokes, stuffed grape leaves and hummus, you could go with a couple of friends grab some app's, share an entree and some wine and be stuffed for $40. All the food is fresh and has amazing flavors. I would check it out now before it starts taking 2 months to get a reservation! Pros: Ambience, food, service, decor Cons: area more
