Sergei caused $2000 in engine damage 11/3/2013

Over $2000 in internal engine damage!!!!!! \r I brought my car into this shop when a piece of road debris punctured my radiator and broke the cooling fan. \r When I came to pick up my car I noticed that it was still leaking coolant so I asked to speak to the mechanic who had worked on it. When I asked him why the car was leaking he proceeded into a profanity laced rant. When he finally came out to the car I opened the hood and discovered that the air intake was missing, both headlights were broken, and the car was showing a check engine light. I noticed that the coolant on the ground was green instead of the purple that this car is required to have. When I asked about why the wrong antifreeze was in the car the mechanic, Sergei, stated that there is no such thing as "wrong" antifreeze. On the coolant tank and in the owner's manual VW warns that you cannot use Glycol Ethynol coolant in my car. The bottle the mechanic showed me clearly states that the primary ingredient is Glycol Ethynol. more

BEWARE OF Pep Boys..they suck 9/16/2011

I wish I could give lower rating..they screwed up electrical with my Honda car..I went to Honda dealer and they were really good and helpful.. Pep Boyz people are not even friendly as they show in their adv..I had to double the money than what it takes for regular servicing due to the parts broken by people in Pep.. more

Unskilled and Unprofessional 3/12/2011

Stay away from this place. Poor workmanship and customer service. I had an alignment done here. After they had my car all day, they called at closing time that it was done. When I picked the car up, the steering wheel was way off center. I called, they said that was the way it came in, which was not correct. Told me to bring it back, which I did. Another day with the car, they called back saying it was done. It wasn't as the steering wheel was still off center and I doubt they did anything but park my car in the parking lot. I wanted my money back, but it was so complicated, I didn't bother which I assume was the plan. I took the car to the Firestone down the street, they do good work. This wasn't the first time I or my son have been screwed there. Unskilled and unprofessional. Service manager is a nasty bastard. more

Waste of time 2/9/2011

I made an appointment 1 week ago and I go there today for my appointment and the rude guy tells me I dont have one. I say well I just called to confirm and the guy told me I was there. Well your not here and we cant see you today. \r First they are so unorganized, second they are rude as hell, and third Its the most ghetto place I have ever been more

cheating 11/1/2010

I went to this shop for safety check for my car. After inspecting they told my struts are damaged and needs to be replaced and it will cost approx. 1200 dollars. He told if i do not replace it will damage other car parts and have other risks. He urged me to do this without giving me a chance to think. I agreed to replace and asked the guy if there is any discounts for this, he told no discount at all. I payed the amount, after coming to home i checked in online and found there is 50% discount on labour charges. I went back and told about the online discount, he said he cannot give now due to the transaction is complete. \r I would recommend not to go to this shop. They cheated me by not telling the thruth of discounts going on. \r Every business should suggest the customer about their disounts or promotions and make the customer use it. more

Rt. 46 PEP Boys Service Shop - Never 10/21/2010

I should have paid attention to the Insider Pages reviews on this PEP Boys facility I read yesterday- but I thought an oil change on a weekday morning would be uncomplicated. I brought work with me - so when they estimated 1.5 hrs I was willing to wait. When the ordeal was over, 2.5 hours had gone by - and the mechanic staff had spent 20 minutes debating how to access the filter on my very common make Toyota, and a tech had spent 7 minutes banging on the bottom of my car with a wrench for no apparent reason. Management is completely disengaged - time estimates given are completely off-the-mark, and the customer service level is nonexistent (they couldn't care less). That said - PEP boys on route 46 still stocks fine auto parts in their retail section - just don't use their mechanic shop - ever - unless stress and wasted time are something you enjoy. more

Horrible... Don't waste time or money!!! 9/27/2010

I brought my car here to get an oil change and plug a tire. Not only were they extremely rude and unfriendly, but they took over 3 and half hours to finish. I will never take my car here again! Please save yourself the time and hassle and go somewhere else!!!! more

EXTREMELY PATHETIC! 7/28/2010

My daughter's car had some issues. We, the parents,\r drove 6 1/2 hours to check out the car and get an appointment\r set up with Pep Boys. We called on Friday for a very\r early appointment on Saturday morning. They said to\r come in at 8:30. We came in at 8:30. Pep Boys said\r the car would be done in one hour. We called them at\r 10:00. They said it wasn't quite done, but to come by\r in another 1/2 hour. We came by at 10:45 and PEP\r BOYS HAD LIED! THEY HADN'T EVEN STARTED IT\r YET! We were due to leave to drive 6 1/2 hours back\r home at 11:00 to avoid traffic jams. We drove all the\r way to Parsippany to get our daughter's car fixed and\r they didn't even start it!! When we went into the\r office and asked who lied about starting it, four guys\r were leaning over the counter and none of them would\r admit it. They were standing around listening to our\r complaints and just denying everything - but NO ONE\r WAS WORKING!! There were people lined up behind\r us and they didn't look happ more

Always Do a Good Job with Fair Price 1/7/2009

Have maintained my car there since they opened the store there. Very busy local place with good service. They started out only doing tires & oil repairs & brakes, then expanded into doing other work like starters, etc. Some more complicated repairs are a bit more pricey, but still fair. If they make a mistake (no one is perfect in hihg volume business), they fix it no problem. They've done all sorts of work for me with a positive outcome each time. Highly recommend.\r \r Arrive early - or leave your car & put the key in the drop box - late in the day they get too busy. more

Morons work at pep boy's Rt46 Parsippany 12/11/2008

I asked about the cost to replace the muffler and exhust pipes on a 98 Honda Civic. The guy tells me it will cost between $400-900 dollars. The price at the shop next to me installed (they use quality parts) is $250. Other places charge between $189 - $225. I don't think pep boys would gouge people like that just that the person I spoke to knows nothing about cars, parts or labor. He also told me they don't do welding if it needs that. Dude, ever hear of hangers?\r At least this moron prevented me from experiencing their quality work. LOL more

exceeded the work needed and installed a nonstandard part that failed 10/31/2008

I took my Saab 95 wagon in because the front brakes had locked. It turns out the brake booster had failed. Around noon, I called to see if the car was ready. They said it was almost ready, so I went over. At 3 p.m., the wheels were still off. It was ready around 4 p.m. Part of the charge included new rear brake pads and rotors. I asked about that. The mechanic said the old ones were rusty and the pads were nearly gone. My home garage in Vermont always notes when pads or rotors are about to need replacement, and they hadn't noted that, so I was suspicious, but I also needed to drive home, four hours away, so I didn't insist they remove the charge. As soon as I drove off, I noticed a hissing noise that hadn't been there before. Two days later, both the front and rear brakes locked. My home Saab dealer discovered PepBoys had installed a non-Saab booster, and it had already failed. They did say the same thing might happen to a Saab booster. They also said the hissing noise wa more

Unprofessional 3/20/2008

Try as I might, I can't say a single good thing about those guys. From the monkeys in the garage, to the monkey garage manager who looks and acts like his mug shot should be in the post office and stinks of cigarettes, to the idiot salespeople who apparently have better things to do than help customers, I'd rather take the car, and will, elsewhere. This place should be razed. Anyone who is happy with their service should have their head examined. I can only conclude that the happy customer likes being ripped off. more

Good Service. They always take care of you 11/27/2007

We use them for our fleet which means we have 7 cars which get heavily used in and out of their shop through the year. Good prices and good service. Once an a while they have to do a redo because a part is bad out of the box, but they will always make sure it is right. I have nothing but positive feedback to give on this shop. Also, we have never had our cars damaged there. more

If I could pick a lower rating I would! 8/7/2007

I couldn't be more disgusted with the Pep Boys employees in Parsippany. I took a car in for a simple bearings job. They told me it would take 2 and a half hours. No problem. 5 hours later I find myself standing in the parking lot still waiting...Still fine...I have time, annoying but ok. Upon checking out my car after the job was done I notice new scratches on my back lights. When I approach the manager about it, he tells me that there is no way his drivers could have done that and they would have told him if they had....yeah right! What's even more frustrating is that while I was standing and waiting in the parking lot I saw one of the Pep Boy's employees back the company van into another van behind him....luckily it was another company van so I didn't say anything. Obviously the manager said he wasn't notified about that one either...well no duh!My frustration doesn't lie with the fact that I didn't receive any free service or even the opportunity for them to cover the new scratches more

My Review Of Pep Boys 9/9/2005

The stre was very crowded when I was tthere, and there did not seem to be enough help. People were waiting around. This was a Friday afternoon. I walked out and i have not been back since. PROS: attractive, nice looking displays CONS: Nobody paid attention to me or helped me to find what I needed more
