I had a high expectation for this place, but was totally shattered when I visited the other day. I will not be returning.

Peony -I love you long time! 11/30/2011

Peony Asian Cuisine serves some of the best food in Austin, hands down. No pretensions, just flavor After googling ""good Chinese delivery"" over and over again for months only to have mediocre and sometimes just strange food that even my bulldog wasn't interested in, we finally discovered Peony. So now, once a week we have a little piece of heaven delivered to our front door. All of the reviews will tell you that the hot and sour soup and even the egg drop soup will be the best thing that you'll ever put in your mouth. But let's not forget to mention the pot stickers that are cooked to perfection, or the Mongolian beef that is absolutely inimitable, and my new favorite, the House Spicy Shrimp that literally made my mouth water just typing the mere words. Now, there have been many palatable moments that I have shared with Peony and through my journey I only have one mistake. That I had yet to actually dine in this place I call Heaven until last weekend. And let's just say. Chu, you had me at hello. Chu is not only the owner, but now my best friend. He sat down to chat with us as we asked if they minded making us a quick roll at the bar while we waited on our to go food since they were closing in 15 minutes. They responded with, ""no problem. Have a seat and enjoy your night."" Now, Chu doesn't normally drink but an hour later all of us were about four complimentary sake bombs deep into a stupendous longhorn roll , and quite entertaining conversation. The staff and owners are friendly and attentive to say the least. The moderate prices and warm atmosphere encourage sake bombs, good company, great sushi and Chinese food that will leave you with a smile on your face. more

Peony - I Love You Long Time! 4/18/2010

Peony Asian Cuisine serves some of the best food in Austin, hands down. No pretensions, just flavor Pros: great service, delicious chinesse, fresh sushi, good prices Cons: there's no such thing here. more

Favorite place for asian food 12/7/2009

This is the restaurant I always go to for special occasions, like new years. It's just pleasant dining and great food. For the schmuck who says they don't speak English well enough... maybe you should stick to 5 Guys Burger and Fries. Pros: Nice ambience, friendly service, EXCELLENT food more

Outstanding, Fresh Pan-Asian Fare With Attentive Service -- Perfect For Families 11/24/2008

We took our two young children here recently almost on a lark, and our experience could not have been better. We explored both the traditional Chinese fare (potstickers, moo shu veggies, veggie dish and broccoli and beef) together with some Japanese items (edamame and sushi). The food was delivered quickly and beautifully prepared -- fresh, clean tastes and quality vegetables and meat (lean, not fatty, and cooked without a lot of oil, which we appreciated). The sushi was similarly exceptional -- very fresh and not a hint of fishiness. The plating was artistic as well -- a nice touch. The edamame were crisp and warm. The chef prepared our food without MSG as requested. Moreover, the service was outstanding -- the waitresses were attentive and fast, and they were super with the kids, showing them the fish tank and helping them roll their own moo shu delights. Plenty of perfectly-cooked rice as well, and they offer brown rice as an option (very unusual, and a welcome addition!). Pros: Great Ambience Good For Families and Couples; Quick And Attentive Service; Value more

PEONY GOT SUED 10/24/2008

Because THEY DIDN'T PAY THEIR WORKERS. It may be good service and food, but one literally never knows what goes on ""behind the kitchen doors."" So they charge their own customers but then don't pay their workers... no dignity in that! Cons: Don't pay their workers what they're supposed to more

Delicious 9/5/2007

We went to Peony for the 2nd time the other night and it was such a delicious meal. I remembered it being good, but this time it was truly outstanding. It's hard to find good Chinese food in Austin and now we know that we have a safe bet anytime we have a craving. Our waiter was great and very attentive and the food was cooked perfectly. I had plenty left over for lunch the next day and it was just as tasty. more

Impressed 6/26/2007

I may be a biased reviewer but Peony will always be special to me as I enjoyed the best Christmas dinner there with my partner. The food is incredibly fresh with a lovely, varied menu. Service, delightful...esepecially if you happen to be waited on by Danny. Great service is a commodity and Danny is one of the most attentive and personable wait staff an establishment is fortunate to have...and only enhances your dining experience. more

Honestly, my favorite restaurant, period! 6/26/2007

Excellent, caring service. I feel like family when I am here. And if you become a regular customer - you will experience a whole new level of service that is unseen in any restaurant for the most part. The food itself is very good - there is no better hot and sour soup ANYWHERE in the U.S. that I have had - and I have had a lot of hot and sour soup. They are very accommodating to any substitutions or alterations to your specific order. If you want everything you go to a Chinese restaurant for, and then some - without all the pretentiousness - there is no better place. Pros: Beyond just another Chinese restaurant. WAY beyond. Cons: They aren't open 24 hours! ;) more

Don't come here. It's not worth it. Trust me. 12/18/2006

Noisy. Bad smell. Bad Service. Bad food. Sushi is probably the worst in Austin. Little to No English spoken. Pros: Can't think of any. Cons: Bad food (especially Sushi). Bad smells. Noisy. Very little English spoken. more

Delicious 11/9/2006

Golden Gate Shrimp is a must try. I fell in love with this appetizer. Delicious shrimp is covered in sweet and light creamy tempting sauce. The main orders are also very good. Staff is very friendly and the service is fast. Pros: Price is reasonable, friendly staff, very good food more

Peony Beats PF Changs 10/1/2006

Peony (Northland Dr/ Mopac) is Austin's best kept secret. It's more Asian Fusion than just strictly Chinese. It's hidden away kind of..I'm sure local businesses and neighboring residents are aware of it, but other than that, you might not pass by it. more

Simple - Good Service Good Food 2/24/2006

I've only ordered delivery, but the food is very good and quickly delivered. You get the feeling that whoever is running the restaurant, whether owner or manager, puts a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction. Pros: Food, Service more

I've had better... 10/4/2004

Although they have a large selection, my wife and I were not pleased with the quality of the food. The sushi was average, but I've certainly had better for the same or lower price. My wife's entree was ordered, not to be spicy, but was cooked as is, with spice. My entree was of poor quality and taste, and the ""steamed"" broccoli that came with it was cold. The service was friendly, and they replaced my broccoli, however it did not have the sauce on it that it did when it came with the meal. Pros: Prompt Seating more

Hit and Miss 7/23/2004

We ate here last night because we heard the sushi is the best in Austin. Unfortunately, we didn't try the sushi but ordered from the pan-Asian menu. I had a very mediocre MuShu Pork but my husband had a wonderful Seafood EggFooYong. I would stick to the specialty dishes...not the common Chinese fare. more

Great Place 3/25/2004

You should give it a try. The Korean BBQ is great. I also tried the Hot and Sour soup and some duck. I would recommend it. The waitstaff was very nice and fast. Pros: Big Menue, Great Staff, Great Food more

Outstanding 8/26/2003

We have been several times and each trip we have been impressed. The staff is very friendly and professional. Their sesame bread served while waiting is great - and try some spring rolls. We usually get a mix of sushi and chinese - the sushi chef is very friendly. This last trip they even brought out some fresh salmon sashimi and cucumber salad for us to try - free. It is our new favorite asian food restaurant. Pros: Clean, fresh, good sized portions more

Excellent food, moderately priced... 1/13/2003

Expectations met. Do not expect a large, boisterous restaurant. The interior is understated and quaint. My wife and I had the beef in brown sauce, chicken lo mein and vegetable fried rice. Large portions and wonderful taste. Think PF Changs with a completely different atmosphere, comparable food taste, and less expensive. Won Ton soup was some of the best I've ever had. They also have a small sushi bar. Pros: good date place, moderately priced, large portions Cons: menu confusing more

Not that great 11/7/2002

I had a high expectation for this place, but was totally shattered when I visited the other day. I will not be returning. more

Wonderful 7/28/2002

I've eaten chinese food from all over the world. This of one of the best places I've eaten in since leaving the Orient. more
