A New Orleans Gem w/o the Lines 1/17/2011

I agree with reviewer 'rodtrent'. I never go to New Orleans without visiting The Pearl, one of my NOLA favorites. Yes, I love Acme Oyster House, too, but The Pearl is more spacious, relaxing and there is no waiting in line. Many tourists miss it because they do not venture out of the French Quarter. The Pearl is just steps across Canal Street in the CBD. 2 mins! The gumbo is some of the city's best. I love the fried oyster po'boys that leave me satisfied for hours. I love the bread pudding but rarely have room left. The waitresses are sweet and motherly. If you love Americana like Route 66, you will appreciate the late '50s-60's design that reminds me of the To Kill A Mockingbird era. I hope they do not destroy the ambiance by 'updating' the decor that survived Katrina. This is not a foofy place to dine; it is a relaxing place to meet a friend for lunch. My New Orleans friends love it. Make sure to photograph the classic neon sign. more

Great service - great food. 6/10/2010

I've read reviews from others who weren't happy with the service or the food. Not sure why. Must be you. Service was great. Waiter was friendly. And, they DO have raw oysters -- you just have to ask for them. Awesome place. Pros: Neat diner atmosphere Cons: St. Charles Trolley runs by frequently - sounds like thunder more

Don't waste your time, or money 6/7/2010

Oyster Po' Boy had shell pieces in it. apparently in New Orleans Appitizer, means half way through your meal, as that's when I finally got my oyster appitizer, which by the way was fried, not on the half shell. Pros: Pros: They were open, and there was no wait. Cons: Cons: You name it more

Avoid Like the Plague 8/1/2009

Do not eat here. It is a waste of time and money. The gumbo lacked taste and the Oyster PO-Boy sandwich was awful and mostly bread. The waiter never even came to re-fill our tea. Cons: Poor service and terrible food. more

Not a Place to Dine 4/6/2009

Gratuity is automatically added to ALL bills. Service was very slow, food was acceptable, and finally the bill arrived with an automatic 15% gratuity added with an explanation that it was due to Katrina. Pros: Plenty of Seating Cons: Slow Unfriendly Service more

Worst Place for Oysters 2/13/2009

I went here for lunch on a Friday a week and a half prior to Mardi Gras. The first thing we noticed were the exorbidant prices. $16 for a dozen raw oysters, and it was obvious that the money wasn't going toward decor. The place is set up like a soda fountain. We should have left then, but we thought perhaps these oysters were carefully selected and that's why they were so expensive. Turns out they're not. They were acceptable at best, and this was a really good year for oysters. I'd hate to see what they serve in a bad year. Our server was sarcastic, surly, and very hard to find. She managed to stretch a raw oyster lunch out to over an hour. When we finally got the check, it was obvious to us why the service was so bad...there's an automatic 15% gratuity! Cons: Horrible Service more

Easy lunch spot 1/20/2008

We stopped in randomly for lunch one day and there were hardly any other people here! However, my boyfriend LOVED the fried catfish with crawfish ettoufe. The gumbo needed lots of tabasco, and I had a huge muffeletta. I would recommend any of the specials - any day of the week. more
