AVOID AT ALL COSTS! 3/27/2009

Well this place sucked in just about every way. A friend recommended this place for some ungodly reason, and after this I will never take his recommendation on anything again. I don't mind the fact that the place is the size of a shoebox, in fact in some cases, if the food is actually decent, it can be endearing (a la 'original pancake house' in chicago). But Paul's delivers barely edible food with servers that appear to come straight out of a West Virginia truck stop. They are truly ""the people that society forgot"". So I order french toast with ""fresh"" fruit and an orange juice. Well, the orange juice tasted like a weak Tang mix- or perhaps water with a squeeze of orange in it? Either way it was terrible and could not be considered ""orange juice"" as such. The fruit looked like it was delivered by boat from a shanty town in India- the strawberries, melon, kiwi and pineapple were all brown and looked rotted. I wouldn't even put it in my mouth it looked so bad. The french toast was worse than when my dad let me try and make it when I was 9 yrs old, but amazingly it was the high point of the meal (if you can call it a meal). I would have said something to the ""server"" (I use that term loosely) but it was clear that not only would it have fallen on deaf ears, but it would have been the subject of ridicule. So please please please avoid Paul's in Grandview, it is what I would like to call ""below the poverty line"" in terms of a dining experience. If this place were rated a 1 star, Denny's would be a 5 triple diamond. Cons: Terrible, inedible food. Rude service. more

Really Tasty Food 11/28/2006

This place is extremely unassuming but the food is really pretty good. My friend had the lasagna which looked amazing, the other friend had fettucine alfredo that was delicous. I had angel hair pasta with a meat sauce that was great. There is plenty of parking and the prices were decent. more

A very comfortable place 2/5/2006

We go to Pauls at least once a month. The pastas are average. I usually go for the specials and have been satisfied more times then not. The service is good and food is usually wonderful. I am not impressed with their patio, but they do not rely on their atmosphere like some other restaurants. more

Comfortable 5/3/2003

Paul's Fifth Avenue (formerly Paul's Pantry) is a comfy, cozy neighborhood café, where lots of regulars hang out. The food is great, but the real surprise comes at night, when Chef Eric Fladen creates his fabulous specials. I recently had the ""Salmon Strudel,"" which is a true masterpiece, both in taste and presentation. Puff pastry filled with salmon, scallops and spinach is sliced and arranged in a flower petal pattern, accompanied by two different-colored sauces and asparagus spears. Outstanding! Pros: Easy parking, Great dinners, Good breakfasts Cons: No corned-beef hash more
