I'm glad someone added a post below about Ilya being at Delta Men's Hairstylists on Lexington and 72nd. I called and found Joseph is now there as well. Great barber, great guy. Joseph has always given me a top quality haircut, and I'm in and out quickly, which I appreciate. more

Ilya Has Left Paul Mole and is now@ Delta Men's Hairstylists 1/23/2011

It's sad to see a great barber like Ilya to leave Paul Mole, where he worked for over a decade! But as they say you move on to bigger and better...The good news is that you can still have Ilya style your hair at Delta Mens' Hairstylists which is located at: 992 Lexington Ave.(bet. 71 & 72st.) 212-650-9055 & 212-628-5723 or you can even call him on his cell: 917-399-4130. He is the only one I trust my hair with! more

barber 8/24/2009

I was very satisified with my haircut but I had to wait a decent amount of time. I know I went during a high traffic time but I still thought it took a little long. I would still recommend the final product. Pros: high quality Cons: long wait more

Best in New York! 1/17/2009

I strongly disagree with Mattiemoo. . .This place is amazing! I have been going to this Barbershop for many years for myself and my children, as have many Upper Eastsiders (the walls are covered in Mugs from customer's of 20 years or more). The service is superb. Great relaxing envrionment for the whole family. Their cappucino is amazing. I have used many of the guys there and do have a few recommendations.. The are all great and can do anythin but his is what I have found over the past years: Pros: Experienced staff, many different languages spoken, great for the whole family! more

HUGE disappointment 6/19/2007

After reading the reviews here on CitySearch, I thought I would surprise my husband with a hot towel shave here at Paul Mole's. Well, it was a HUGE disappointment. The barber said practically NOTHING to him and ended up missing several spots that my husband had to touch up at home. It lasted maybe 15 min and was $42! What a waste! more

Best Shave and a Haircut for 2 Bits. 2/16/2007

Ok it is a little more than 2 bits (25 cents), but $29 for a haircut is very reasonable in New York. I started going to Paul Mole about 4 years ago when my hair stylist cut his work hours to one day a week and only 3 times month. (I guess a ""stylist"" can do that since the charge $80 and up for a 20 minute haircut. I like ""barber"" better, but I digress). I used Lev, who was written up as ""The Best Shave"" in New York and it was. My face had never been smoother, no friction burns, no stubble, just a nice clean feel. Pros: Service, friendly, profeesional Cons: Not the place to go for complicated hair processes (perms, waves, etc.) more

Great Customer Service 2/10/2007

I have been interested in learning about wet shaving using a safety razor for several weeks and had done considerable research on the subject online. A friend recommended that I go to Paul Mole's because they sell all the products needed and have experienced barbers that might be able to offer me advice (I was thinking about going to the Art of Shaving, however, was afraid of ending up with some random counter person that really didn't know anything more than me.) I was pleasantly surprised at the attention I received, although the counter person was very busy answering phones and making appointments, she took almost 45 minutes walking me through each aspect of wet shaving and showing me all available products. It was very helpful to have a person who was very knowledgeable, and not condescending, walk me through the process. While I ended up spending more money than I originally had planed, the guidance and advice where well worth it. After this experience I can?t wait to try a shave there! Pros: Amazing Customer Service, Knowlegable staff Cons: Don't take credit cards - (although there is an ATM in the shop) more

A proper shave at Paul Mole 12/18/2006

Dear BKGOOSE, I read your review on my barbershop with dismay since I take great pride in our level of service. First of all, if you did indeed receive bad treatment like you reported, I do apologize and if possible I would like to make amends. A shave at Paul Mole is a lost leader. The barbers offer this service to keep their traditional touch. We shave with a disposable open edge, which can be a problem if the skin has blemishes or pimples. If an open blade is ran over problem skin it will cut the pimples off. If the customer has never had an open razor shave before there can be some discomfort if the barber shaves too close. A regular shave cost $29 and should take about a half hour. As long as you are on time for your appointment that is how long the barber should take to perform the service. It includes pre-shave creams/oils that are massaged into the beard and followed by a hot towel compress. Then a hot lather is applied twice with more hot towels. The first part of the shave is done with the grain of the beard growth and another hot towel is then applied. The barbers ask the customers before they shave against the grain of the beard to obtain the closest shave. After the actual shave is complete we apply a face cream, another hot towel w/witch hazel, and then an after shave lotion. For an extra $10 you can receive a mini face massage that takes approximately 15 minutes. Now if you did not receive this level of treatment please contact me and let me know when you came to my shop for a shave and with which barber. You may or not may not be aware that we record all services and are capable of looking at any time you might have came in within the last six months. If you did indeed receive the service you reported I will personally compensate you $1,000 for your time. I do this so a competitor cannot use this forum to bad mouth me or my shop. As I have mentioned we take great pride in our level of service. *Paul Mole Barbershop* more

It seems this place was great at one time, but that time has long passed... 9/19/2006

If you have an extra $29 burning a hole in your pocket and enjoy sub par shaves, this place is perfect. If however, you prefer close shaves without being nicked numerous times, and a barber who understands the concept of symmetry (or maybe you even care about your appearance), then you are probably better off passing on Paul Mole. Pros: This place has an interesting (long) history. Cons: Unsatisfactory shaves: plenty of nicks, stubble, and asymmetry. more

This place is right out of the 1920's. I recommend making an appointment. more
