Be very careful. You pay astronomical prices for most of the goods as compared to other Indian shops. We have paid four dollars extra for 4 pounds of Dal (pulses) as compared to other Indian stores. Hence first check prices at other places and then do purchasing. more

Big Indian Grocery store 5/28/2006

This is the biggest store in the area that carries Indian groceries. This grocers is always jam packed with people because they have such a great selection and really good prices. The service here is good and the people working here are always helpful in finding things for you. If you buy a lot of things, they will also help you out to your car, which is really nice. This is probably one of the best places to pick up fresh and good Indian groceries. more

Indian Supplies 4/22/2006

Whenever I want to cook a nice Indian meal for my family, I try to head on over here to get my supplies and spices. This is the biggest store that I have seen that carries Indian groceries. They have lots of sauces, spices, vegetables, and dry goods to put your meal together. The store is pretty well stocked and everything is pretty easy to find. It just gets really crowded on the weekends and then it gets hard to get around the store. more

Indian Grocery 4/9/2006

Patel Brothers is a really great indian grocery located on devon. I think they actually have other locations too although I personally haven't shopped there. They offer a huge variety of indian-pakistani groceries and produce at very fair prices. They have basically any kind of spice you could imagine as well as good varieties of everything. more

Great store for indian foods 3/17/2006

Patel brothers is a good store and has great service. If you’re shopping here on devon there are many grocery stores to choose from and all are pretty good so just pick one. Patel bros will have what you need. One time I went in there with a bag of Swad almonds –Swad is their house brand. and I wanted to exchange them or get refund because they wouldn’t soak properly.(Soak almonds overnight in water to get max nutrition and taste.) And these just weren’t spouting right. Anyway the manager there did not hesitate one second to offer me a cash refund. I didn’t have to explain or hassle or nothing. He simply offered it. That type of reaction to refund/exchange request is kind of rare with any store any business period. I didn’t even have a receipt. That stands out to me. Also I enjoy their selection of indian soaps and what not. more

Great small place 8/26/2005

Patel Brothers is the Indian equivalent of a major chain grocery store. With over 30 outlets nationwide serving Asian Indian communities, the original Patel Brothers opened on Devon Avenue in 1974. The store features the signature Swad brand, and includes a large selection of ready-to-eat and frozen foods. Dry goods include several dals, (the generic term for dried legumes, including peas, beans and lentils), flours and a variety of rice. Chutneys, pickles, spices, fruit purees and other items essential for Indian cooking line the aisles. The Patel family also owns other groceries and shops on Devon Avenue and several restaurants in Chicagoland, including the Indian Garden. more
