Patel Brothers is the Indian equivalent of a major chain grocery store. With over 30 outlets nationwide serving Asian Indian communities, the original Patel Brothers opened on Devon Avenue in 1974. The store features the signature Swad brand, and includes a large selection of ready-to-eat and frozen foods. Dry goods include several dals, (the generic term for dried legumes, including peas, beans and lentils), flours and a variety of rice. Chutneys, pickles, spices, fruit purees and other items essential for Indian cooking line the aisles. The Patel family also owns other groceries and shops on Devon Avenue and several restaurants in Chicagoland, including the Indian Garden.
