Great Korean! 12/26/2008

I grew up eating Korean food, so I think that I have a pretty good taste for it. While nothing is ever better than Mom's cooking, this stuff was still great!\r \r I had the Kimchee Chigae and my wife had the Dol Sot Bibembap; we also ordered steamed mandoo (dumplings).\r \r So first off, we sit and are treated to warm barley water (which is kind of like tea, but...not really). After a few minutes 2 kinds of kimchee were brought out (cabbage and cucumber) along with tofu, fish sausage, eggs and bean sprouts. All of this was wonderful! Afterward the steamed mandoo was brought out - while tasty, there was a maraschino cherry in the center of the six mandoo...and that was really strange to me.\r \r In any case, the bibimbap and kimchee chigae were brought out in hot bowls. The red pepper paste with the bibimbap tasted pretty fresh (we've had this at other CC restaurants, and it just wasn't as good...). To top it off, my wife asked for the egg to be cooked ""well done,"" (she doesn't like the traditional runny yoke) and they performed perfectly for her. The chigae was still boiling in the bowl and everything from the tofu to the pork to the kimchee just seemed to gel really well with me.\r \r This is definitely going on our list of favorites as it beats driving to Upper Darby or N. Philly to get the stuff we would need to make any of this! We walked out paying about $30 for the whole dinner to boot! Pros: Serving staff, food, price, location Cons: service was actually a little slow - and City Search is incorrect, they do not take AMEX more

good lunch special 9/23/2008

I love Korean food so i went to give it a try. It wasn't as bad as other review said. I think the lunch box is about $10 and i think it's worth it. Hardly anyone is in there. I don't know how they keep the business open. \r I think the food is pretty good. The place is very clean and quiet. I will go back again for sure. Pros: good service, lunch box Cons: not many customer, can get too quiet more

Ashamed to call it Korean food 5/1/2008

I went to this restaurant twice and do not plan on going there again. The first time I went, I ordered rice/dumpling soup, and it was just ok. The second time I went, I ordered ddukbokki (spicy rice cake dish), and it was absolutely disgusting. Ddukbokki is supposed to be moist and tasty, but mine was dry, you could see the specks of red pepper dried to the rice cakes. The sauce was watery and tasteless. I basically ate some rice and some of the side dishes for lunch. My friend ordered spicy squid over rice...I tasted some and it was again, absolutely disgusting. They asked if I wanted to take the rest of the ddukbokki home...yeah right! There were hardly any customers...that should've been a sign. The ambience is nice, but really, I'm ashamed to call the place a representation of Korean food in Philly. Pros: ambience Cons: food. go to Giwa (though they don't have as much selection) more

One of the worst, flat Korean eateries in the region 1/5/2007

I have gone there a few times because of work over last 4 years and it's a wonder that they're still open.\r Several dishes I tried tasted absolutely fake and bland. This is a far, car cry from authentic Korean food.\r As someone who grew up in Korea and makes Korean food at home, I can't justify paying money for meals that even I can make 10 times better. They have a generic, limited menu. If you want to experience or introduce Korean food, this is a bad choice as no dish carried its real taste and distinct characters.\r At least the service was nice but there's no substance or taste to back it up. Cons: Bland, unauthentic food more

Best Korean in Center City 9/20/2006

This has to be one of my favorite restaurants. I have never been disappointed with any entrees that I have ordered and the food is always delicious. I lived in Korea and found this to be very authentic. The service is wonderful and they are very child friendly. It's easy to bring children here. Pros: Great Food more

great food 7/25/2004

The food is really authentic, and not overpriced. It can sometimes get really busy at night, so I'd recommend going there early for faster service. The staff is also really nice. Pros: authentic, inexpensive more

Best Korean Restaurant in Philly!! 11/20/2002

I've eaten here more than any other restaurant in Philadelphia. The food has quite an authentic taste, the service is excellent and the prices fit even a student's budget. The restaurant also has a cute atmosphere and awesome background music. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Korean food and to anyone who would like to try it! Pros: Superb Food, Inexpensive more

Authentic Korean in Center City 10/17/2002

OK, the table-top grills may not be fueled by wood coals, but this is as close to the authentic Korean barbecue experience as you will find in Center City. Order Bulgoki to grill in front of your eyes or one of the wonderful bubbling seafood stews. Hard to miss on this inexpensive menu. Not a place to go for elegance; come instead for the always wonderful food. more
