Comfortable space, some skill variety in teachers. Reception area could be more pleasant/helpful. Pros: Nice Space, Convenient location

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/29/2012

This place is absolutely fabulous. It's homey and unpretentious; the teachers, desk staff, regular practitioners and the owner are all sweet, lovely and helpful. The natural light in the studio is really awesome too. more

great yoga in brooklyn 4/2/2011

some of the best vinyasa in ny! the desk staff are helpful (which is always nice when you're visiting a new studio) and the teachers are extremely knowledgeable and very capable of teaching amazing classes. definitely a studio to check out!! more

Excellent Center 10/18/2010

The pilates classes at Devi (the spot across the street) are amazing. I have been studying at various spots throughout NYC over the last four years and this is by far one of my favorite places. Catey and Kathryn are both knowledgeable and supportive while being challenging. The studio is nice and open with lots of natural light. As an instructor now myself, I highly recommend the classes and studio!!! more

not just yoga -- excellent pilates too! 10/13/2010

I've never taken yoga here, but I'm a regular at their Pilates classes (across the street at Devi, their second space), and I love them. I've tried Pilates in studios all around Park Slope, but this is far and away my favorite. They have great teachers, challenging classes (not too easy, not too punishing, not too slow, not too fast), and a large, airy studio. (I used to love their modern dance classes too, but they haven't been offered for a while.) Oh, and I love that they're so close to Tea Lounge -- great for a snack before or after! more

Park Slope Yoga Center 10/8/2010

The Park Slope Yoga Center is an awesome place to go for yoga or pilates lessons. Wether you are experienced or just a beginner, the friendly teachers make you feel welcome and unintimidated. The overall environment is also very positive and peaceful there. The best part about the Yoga Center is the open, spacious, studios with hanging plants and open windows. I have been taking lessons here for about two years and I always feel better and refreshed after a class! more

best vinyasa yoga, plus Zumba classes too! 10/8/2010

The teachers have integrity, the space is beautiful. I love the Zumba classes to mix it up. If you haven't found your ""home"" center, this is it! more

Excellent Pilates & Yoga in beautiful space 10/6/2010

The Park Slope Yoga Center has two spaces in the heart of Park Slope, conveniently located next to the Park Slope Food Coop. The classes are excellent (Sophie for beginning Hatha yoga, Kathryn and Catey and Sadie for pilates). The classes are inexpensive and the 20-class card allows great flexibility. The 2 large classrooms are clean and brightly lit with windows and skylights, decorated with Indian cloths, photographs and hanging plants. A serene and quiet environment where one is required to remove one's shoes in the entryway and where one is always greeted in a friendly manner at the front desk. The teachers I have used are friendly, caring and mindful of any injuries or difficulties one might have. more

A Gem of a Studio 10/5/2010

This is a great Yoga Center. My wife and I love practicing here. It's right next to the food Co-op. How perfect. The teachers are great, there is plenty of natural light. The place is laid back and doesn't make me feel self conscious, and the prices are reasonable. I love practicing here. I highly recommend it. more

Great Yoga! 10/5/2010

I love this yoga center. It's one of the original centers in Park Slope- started way before there were so many centers in the neighborhood. The room is sunny and welcoming and the desk people have always been really nice. My favorite teacher is Robin who has been teaching there for a long time. I have some old injuries but have always felt safe since as long as you let them know of any issues, the teachers are always helpful modifying poses that might be an issue. more

Great teachers, welcoming atmosphere! 10/2/2010

I come here when I visit friends in Brooklyn, and have always been highly satisfied with the experience. They have wonderful, knowledgeable instructors, and a welcoming atmosphere. A lovely sunlit and serene place to downward dog! :) more

my favorite yoga place 5/26/2010

This is my favorite place to practice in new york city. The teachers are all really unique in their teaching styles, and I always find myself feeling very comfortable in their hands. The focus is on alignment and sequencing with just the smallest smattering of yogic philosophy, the perfect mix for me. There are lots of classes to choose from, which works great for someone like me who has a varied schedule and never knows when I can get a class into my day. Pros: great teachers, relaxed atmoshphere more

Not very good at teaching 2/18/2010

I took a ""beginner"" Hatha class that provided almost no guidance. The instructor took an aerobics-class approach, going through the poses rapidly and mechanically, providing little explanation or help. Some of the poses actually hurt my arms and hands, and I am still suffering the effects. I am actually quite athletic, and visit the gym regularly, so I was surprised by the results. The students seemed to be intermediate level or above. I've taken beginning yoga at other places and have had wonderful instructors. (Also note that the entire place -which is in an old building- smells like mildew.) Pros: Convenient location Cons: Beginners beware! Not good teaching more

My favorite place for yoga in Brooklyn!!! 2/3/2010

Park Slope Yoga felt warm and inviting from the moment I stepped in the door. The classes approach yoga classically and often have themes, chanting and pranayama (breathing techniques). Teachers are knowledgeable and friendly. The center is also conveniently located next to the food co-op with a second big, sunny studio across the street (Devi). Park Slope Yoga Center is a great place for practitioners of all levels from beginner to advanced. Pros: lots and lots of classes, great teachers, beautiful space more

great place to sneak in a workout 2/1/2010

When I come to Brooklyn on business I like to keep up with my yoga practice. After a little trial and error I found Park Slope Yoga. It?s really good. Nice studio, great classes and great teachers. Pros: challenging workouts Cons: a little hard to find more

Classic & bright 7/27/2009

I love this yoga center- a beautiful, unique, loft-like space with some wonderful teachers. In addition to great asana instruction (which is so important), teachers often give classes even more dimension by incorporating chanting and thematic content. I've been studying yoga for years at dozens of studios in New York and elsewhere. Park Slope Yoga Center and Devi are the sunniest and most organic feeling - skylights and many plants. Other things about studio: Waiting area/ other facilities: not super modern, but simple, clean and no frills Staff: very pleasant Price: Great for Brooklyn and New York in general more

creepy staff 11/30/2008

I agree with Lizhy about the 20 minutes of preaching being a waste of time and money, when other centers focus on the practice more than imparting the accumulated wisdom of a person in their 20's. Also I find their card policy a bit dated for 2008. I don't know what job or purpose the very skinny and effeminate man in his 60's watching over everyone served, but something is not right about the way he kept staring at people and grinning, it made me very uncomfortable!!!! more

Stop wasting time enlightening students and teach them to practice correctly 4/17/2008

Instructors are more interested in passing along ""wisdom"" than instructing yoga. Some may be different, but those I have had usually start class with 15-30 minutes of chanting and telling us their thoughts. Frankly, I find nothing ""enlightening"" about a 20-something finding peace by releasing a rodent instead of killing it. This isn't what I pay for. Pros: Nice space, no problems with front desk Cons: Bad instructors and crowded classes on weekends more

What's with the Staff? 10/21/2007

The class was great, but the front desk staff= weird... Took one class and was bothered by how they tried to 'sell me' a package. Weird... more

Some of the Best Teachers! 9/24/2007

Your yoga experience really depends on the teacher. Some are better than others--depending on your practice as well..I had been there a few times, not loving it, but the atmosphere is so tranquil, it drew me back. I was especially pleased after having my worst yoga ever at Jaya. I LOVED my last 2 teachers here, and was very impressed with their confidence and intelligence. They were very welcoming to beginners, and very supportive at every level. Nikki and Sasha are amazing, and I promise--I don't work for this place! I just LOVE it!! Wish I was there now....ommmmmm Pros: Great Teachers, Nice changing area, Smiling People Cons: Crowded classes! more

Faaaaabulous Teachers 8/9/2007

Laid-back atmosphere of a neighborhood studio (love the skylight and hanging plants) with some top-notch vinyasa teachers. Have never taken a class I didn't love there. I always leave blissed out, happy to have discovered something new, and drenched in sweat. I just wish they had a shower. Pros: my favorite teachers Cons: no showers more
