Jennifer Hudson & Robin Thicke at the Paramount last night 5/20/2009

Girl, \r \r Jennifer Hudson/Robin Thicke Review Paramount Theater, May 19, 2009\r \r It's a good thing you did not spend your hard earned money on last night's show! Not only was it a prior postponed concert now two and one half weeks later, it started one hour late a 8:30 with a DJ from KMEL 106 screaming about something. \r \r Finally Robin Thicke came out about 8:35 and did a long set and appeared to be very good, EXCEPT the volume on the music and vocals were unbearable. People got up and left and complained as I did to the Paramount Theater manager. It was hard to tell if the sound was adjusted or not, but many came back into theater from the lobby holding freebie bags of ear plugs. The Paramount has a role in this as well by allowing the sound to be put out the way it was. As my friend said “they really did a disservice to Robin Thicke.”\r \r Miss Hudson came on at 10p and said she was ""happy to be in San Francisco, even though she was not feeling well."" Hello! I'm sure I was in Oakland. She later corrected herself by proclaiming ""ha ha ha, I've been told I am in Oakland."" Whatever! \r \r Now, remember, by this time it’s about 10:05. She started with ""One Night Only"" and went into a variety of shortened versions of other songs. Her last song ""Spotlight"" was at about 10:40 and it appeared that she stopped half way through and said ""Goodnight."" WTF! This is understandable if she is feeling ill due to her pregnancy. However, she was not too sick to stand and collect bouquets of flowers from the adoring front row fans. \r \r Just think, less than forty minutes! She is giving Miss Ross a run for her money when it comes to short siding the fans. Will I pay to see Miss Hudson again? No. Will I pay to see Robin Thicke again, Yes but only if a sound check is done sooner than 10 minutes before show (as an usher told me was the case). \r \r Don’t even get me started on Miss Hudson’s outfit. Well, maybe she had been out shopping at the Farmer’s Market just before showtime. Hmmmm…I thought headliners were supposed to dress like one.\r \r If all of this is not disappointing enough, neither entertainer offered an apology for the earlier postponement or for starting late when they did show up. Well, maybe they did, but I was deafened by the volume. They get the big ""D"" as in DISAPPOINTMENT from Lare!\r more

Paramount Theatre 8/9/2008

I had heard so much about it but it was my first time on Friday when a bollywood movie. And this movie is a costume drama so I was more excited. But before the movie I was star struck by the magnificence of the theater. It is a huge monument with brilliant architecture all over with the elegant set up adding to it. The sound system is also of superb quality. All in all it was a great visual experience and the movie? It is good. more

Great historic theater. Wonderful experience, much more than a movie. more

Classy spot for concerts 5/20/2002

My all-time favorite show here was by The Hawkins Family -- a gospel extravaganza, topped off by a rousing rendition of ""Oh, Happy Day."" The Paramount is absolutely glorious. Hopefully, they can restore the nearby Fox Theater to a similar state. Parking here is pretty easy at night on the street. Plus, BART stops right out front. Pros: Classy concert hall more
