Great, healthy burritos 7/22/2009

Papalote has a great selection of healthy, hearty burritos. The line can get really long, so be sure to call ahead. Pros: good vegetarian burritos Cons: long lines - call ahead more

Clean, fantastic food! 1/4/2008

The fare at this restaurant has both great flavor, and a very clean feel. Nothing felt too heavy or greasy at all. The service was excellent (the cashier was extremely friendly and helpful). Great location, great ambiance, and great look. Highly recommended.\r \r Also, salsa was fantastic! I got the veggie burrito and would love to go back and try something else. Prices reasonable. more

Burritos, Burritos, and Tacos! 7/18/2007

I love, love, love this place. The food is clean (no lard, not too greasy), and the salsa is spicy. Perfect for Saturday afternoons, after a Friday night out. Or take it to go and eat at home. Or take it to the park. Really, any time is a good time for Papalotes. Pros: food, salsa, burritos, tacos, take out, eat in Cons: Not good for a date more

tasty, good food 1/9/2007

Always something fresh and tasty, can't go wrong with this small corner restaurant, I love this place. more

Awesome veggie options! 10/25/2006

I read about this place in a NY Times travel article, where it said that this was the best place for a vegetarian to get a burrito in the Mission. Now, I must admit, I haven't tried the veggie burritos at too many other places, but that's because this place is so good! My favorite is the soyrizo, but I've also tried the tofu mole, which was interesting...I hadn't ever really had mole before, since it's usually with some kind of meat. It's usually kind of crowded for dinner, but it's awesome, and definitely worth it! The chilaquiles are good too, because they're covered in Papalote's yummy salsa. Pros: Great veggie food! All beans are vegan. more

Best Burrito in the City? 6/30/2006

After I heard Papalote was voted the best burrito by Daily Candy, I had to try it. Even on a Tuesday night, the place was packed. My chicken burrito was good and ingredients were fresh, though nothing that stood out compared to other burrito joints in the Mission. Though my boyfriend's prawn burrito was really good. Still not convinced that these are the best burritos in the city -- I'm still on the search. But I definitely recommend checking this place out. Pros: Fresh food, cute place more

I Love Papalote 2/28/2006

This is one of the best - if not completely authentic - burrito places around. Awesome salsa, innovative burritos, and friendly atmosphere. Plus, if you call 10 minutes ahead, you can pre-order your food for it to be ready when you get there. The best. Pros: price, salsa, service more

One of my favorites 6/14/2005

The food here is delicious, I have gone back there 10-15 times. The salsa they have there is out-of-this-world. Very cute, warm decoration. More of a lunch, afternoon place (at least I think of it that way). Service is not so quick sometimes, but if you eat there they will bring the food to your table. Pros: yummy, fresh, delicious Cons: long wait more

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G !! 11/9/2003

I can't believe that this place has been around for 5 years and I BARELY had a chance to eat there last night. The food is amazing - I had the shrimp quesadillas with the black beans - the hicama salsa is ridiculous and of course....the salsa is just bananas!!! I'm definitely going back to this spot more often. Very reasonable prices and the decor of the restaurant is beautiful!! I would encourage anyone to go and check it out when they're in the area. They've got a great variety of drinks/beer as well. Pros: just plain good!!! Cons: nuthin' more

Healthy Mexican 2/5/2003

With a good selection of beers on tap, Papalote offers mexican food that is not cooked in a greaseladen hole in the wall. Even though some of those grease laden hole in the walls are some of my favorites, but Papalote is a refreshing change. Lots of vegetarian options and their salsa kicks ass! You can buy it by the jar. more

Fresh Mex...the real thing. 8/28/2002

Not only does Papalote have the best fish tacos in SF...they also have the best breakfast and best salsa! And on top of that...the guys running the place are the coolest. What more could you ask for? Pros: Salsa, Fish Tacos, Music more

hey...my mommas in the kitchen! 8/28/2002

This is the first place i go when i miss my familia, the food is delicious, the space is always hoppin' with music and bright colors, and the owners are almost cooler than the food & space combined! Papalotes is like going home to east san jo for me....if you haven't yet you must swing by. more

Papalote 8/28/2002

Papalote is a happening restaurant-taqueria in the Mission area. The food is excellent and prepared in a very healthy manner -- it is a favorite among local vegetarians and vegans. Not being a vegetarian myself, I love the flavorful, tasty food they offer. Plus, the service is great -- the guys who own this place are awesome and it is always a pleasure to see their smiling faces behind the register. The restaurant is not huge, there is ample seating, but it is really cute -- decorated with kites and always playing some good tunes. My favorite Mission-area restaurant when I'm not looking to lay down just a buck for a greasy taco (and sometimes I am...)... Pros: Tasty, Healthy, Really good food more

Fresh and Healthy value meal! 8/13/2002

As a vegetarian, I had many choices - the grilled vegetable burrito was great - the produce tasted fresh. It wasn't too heavy, and was low-priced. You have the option of eating there or taking out. Pros: Good value, Healthy food, Clean restaurant Cons: Parking difficult more

The new king of SF burritos? 7/24/2002

Papalote may have the best burrito in San Francisco. My personal favorite is the chicken burrito with black refried beans. The chicken is all white meat and pre-marinted to perfection. The black beans are unique and very tasty. more
