secret shoppers are like open sores on my butt 10/18/2007

I would recommend the mystery shoppers who frequent this restaurant to FIND A REAL JOB. Don't you know you are interfering with my ability to enjoy the restaurant? With your senseless evaluations and your untrained eye, you create stressful work situations for those that have to wait on YOU. These waiters are just trying to make money to pay their mortgage and feed their families. As if your presence isn't annoying and stressful enough, you don't know that employees have to suffer the harassment of management if you give negative evaluations. Nobody is perfect so why should YOU be the judge of someone's future? Why doesn't someone evaluate YOU, you secret shopper FREAK? You're just a spy who can't find a real job. I can't stand it when I hear you talking about the service, talking about what you're going to write on your evaluation form. This is a great restaurant despite the secret shopper scabbers. more

Snotty and Impersonal!!! 6/9/2007

We stopped in 15 minutes before the dining room opened before dinner and decided to have an appetizer at the bar. After getting our drinks and ordering, the bartenders changed shifts. The new bartenders...three of them...did not greet us. Did not acknowledge us. There were only two groups of people at the bar. With some difficulty getting anyone's attention, we finally paid our bar tab and headed to the dining room where they told us that they were completely full. Fifteen minutes after their dinner started. They offered us a table on the patio. As we walked through the restaurant we were offended at the number of tables that were empty. The patio table was dirty, as if rained on and not cleaned up. Give me a break!!! Sorry Palomino. Ruth's Chris got us right in and their service was fabulous! more

Mixed review 1/8/2007

Palomino has a great happy hour menu and the prices are great however, if you go for happy hour, the service is pretty poor. Usually you get a lot of attitude from the servers in the bar area. I go back to the happy hour for the cheap pizzas and drinks. Pros: great happy hour, parking in building is cheap, pizza Cons: sometimes poor service in bar area, can be overpriced in restaurant more

Ten Sage is to die for! 11/20/2006

We have had dinner and drinks here and they are to die for! The ten Sage is my favorite drink, worth driving downtown for. When we had dinner the service was wonderful and the food was perfect. I would highly reccomend. Pros: ten sage more

Excellent service and they actually understand special requests! 11/4/2006

Palomino is successful for a reason. Beautiful atmosphere, great food, and normally great service. Our special requests were followed to a tee. No butter, no problem. One guest ordered simply grilled fish; in this case Halibut and it arrived flavorful and elegantly presented. A perfect example that fish neednt be slathered with butter and sauce to taste wonderful. This doesnt just happen, theres talent behind the magic. If you are a fussy eater or just dont feel like a high calorie meal, try Palomino. They are happy to accommodate! On the other hand, theres plenty of saucy dishes if you just want to go nuts. Try the Roasted Prawns piled around a mountain of mashed potatoes. Pros: Service, ambience, exciting Cons: It's really far to the restroom if you are seated in the south end. more

Fabulous food, wonderful service 9/9/2006

After reading the reviews we were a little nervous about trying the place, but it turned out to be a 10! We arrived on a Saturday night at 6:30 without a reservation. We were seated promptly and our server was great. I tried the Pomegranate Martini very tasty! We got fried calamari as an appetizer. It was average. I think I would try the crab and artichoke dip next time! We went with salads for our main course. I had the Grilled Chicken Salad with Warm Pecan-Crusted Blue. Oh my lord, it was fabulous! I was talking about it all the way to our night at the theater and then the whole train ride home! My husband got the Chop Chop. Hes not really a salad fella, but he liked the flavor quite a bit. We were too full for desert even with only eating salads, but they looked fabulous! The Creme Brule is twice the size of what you get at regular restaurants, and the chocolate cake presentation was darling! I really enjoyed the restaurant and would definitely go again! Pros: Interesting combindations of foods, different tastes can eat at the same place Cons: Little loud more

Definitely not top 10 material 9/3/2006

It was my first time there- Went for dinner- Food was below average- Waiter was extremely rude and unprofessional- Atmosphere was decent- Would definitely not recommend it- I am suprised it's on one of the top 10 seafood places! Pros: Decent atmosphere, extensive menu Cons: food quality more

Best in the City! 7/18/2006

My boyfriend and I stopped into Palomino on a Thursday night based on a recommendation from several friends who work downtown and wouldn't stop talking about the amazing selection of half-priced appetizers and drink specials during happy hour. We tried a huckleberry mojito and, honestly, the best mussels in town. They were roasted in the brick oven in the bar with a sauce that was rich, spicy and full of citrus with pieces of fresh rosemary. We decided to switch gears and give their cheese fondue a try - we're glad we did. The cheese was smooth and elegant topped with chopped pistachios accompanied by a warm homemade cracker bread, sliced pear and apple and a thin pear honey. At this point, we were full and weren't hungry enough to try dinner. Long story short, we had a fabulous time. The service was surprisingly relaxed, energetic and knowledgeable. We were anxious to go back so we already made a reservation for our anniversary in August. more

The Best 5/22/2005

I have been to most of the ""great"" restaurants in town. I dine out frequently but never really thought about this place. A friend invited me to meet him there for happy hour. They had a brick oven right in the bar and all their pizzas were $2.50. What truly surprised me was the pizzas were full size. The highlight however was the people. Finally I found a place where the staff actually cared that we were there. So many ""nice"" places have servers full of attitude, and act like I'm an annoyance. Not here, smiles on all the faces and an uncommon care and concern for our experience. I was so impressed, I brought three people back the next night for dinner and it was divine (try the Copper River Salmon). You may not hear much about this place but you will soon. Pros: Service, Food, Validated Parking more

Absolutely superb! 4/27/2005

Out of this world! Decor charming. Had a beautiful table by a window, and watched the squirrels and sparrows cavort. Martini to start- excellent. Cibatti bread with a gorgonzola tomato relish-excellent. Ordered roast pork loin with caramelized onion and acorn soufflé, and Grilled Seafood Salad Louis. It had grilled salmon, shrimp, crabmeat, deviled egg, asparagus, cucumber, tomato, Greek olives, and fabulous greens, with a champagne vinaigrette dressing. For dessert, warm pear bread pudding, with a bourbon sauce and vanilla ice cream. All was sheer ambrosia! Sean, the waiter, had a wonderful sense of humor, excellent and very attentive, friendly, warm service. He said he'd validated the parking for the entire night, in case we'd care to wander around downtown, AND Sean said, ""There is a little something to entice you back."" There was an open dated gift certificate for $25.00 with the bill! Pros: Food,, Service, Ambience more

Terrible!! 4/13/2005

The bar here is OK, and the pizzas are OK. But after I bought a gift certificate at a charity auction, my husband and I went there for dinner. Our plates were scalding hot when they came out...you know what that means, they've been sitting under the heat lamps for way too long. My salmon was OK, but my husband's pasta dish was bland and he could barely find the chicken in it. The server said ""a lot of people ask where the chicken is, it's shredded"". The calamari was also very disappointing and over the top with the breading. I work in this office building! I may stop at the bar after work, but I'll never eat there again! There's too many other good choices nearby. On top of everything else you lose what you don't use on the gift certificates. Luckily we were only out about $8. Pros: seated quickly Cons: Food more

Fabulous! 2/15/2005

We went for a pre-theater dinner and had one of the best dining experiences in a long time! Best service was that they knew to check if we needed to make it for any particular show and then they took it from there, making sure the food got out quickly for us and bringing the bill with a gentle reminder that we need to go to be in time for the show. The food was great, as one might expect. It was not only tasty but when we told them we wanted to share the entrees, they brought them out split already so no need to swap plates mid meal. I really enjoyed the ambiance, and the low key approach. And to top it off, they validated parking. Fabulous! more
