Best

I love this place, they have so much variety of dishes! Everything is way so good!! Great place to do family style and share! Pros: Variety of delicious dishes

Worst

Thai food is one of my favorite, and I have had been to many thai restaurant. I have to admit I'm a bit picky when it comes to food. I ordered the Coconut soup with chicken, and...

Good food, otherwise just OK 9/1/2004

We had the unique opportunity to enjoy Palms with a very big group, so we got to sample a large selection of items. Several items were outstanding, such as the seafood soup (bursting with flavor), beef salad (great taste) and the green curry (close to perfect, in our opinion). Others, such as the wild boar red curry and roasted quail, while probably aunthetic, were too spicy or unusual for many of our diners. A few dishes were just ordinary (shrimp chips, lo mein noodles). The main problem with this restaurant was the service. Very fast, and we felt extremely rushed. Part of the problem may be that traditional Thai food is served all at once, but they really didn't seem to try to accomodate our needs. They are apparently a very busy place, but they should have at least attempted to make us comfortable. Pros: food Cons: , service, noisy more

Magical 8/18/2004

Me, Elvis, and the Thai John Denver have been through a magical journey of flavor many a time. The addition of ""Crazy shirt guy"" with the Kermit puppet only adds to madness that is the Palms Thai. The duck curry I go into a coma where all the hipsters in the restaurant and its only me and Elvis in a psychedelic Thai curry vacuum. Go here if you like fun. If you don't like fun, then go home and cry, because Thai elvis won't be your friend. I think I go here too much. Pros: good, cheap food, Elvis and friends more

Great Food, Elvis was spotted here! 8/16/2004

A great place to eat and live entertainment featuring the likes of Elvis. The staff dispatch each other with their headsets to see if your table's ready. It seemed good if you're with a bunch of friends. It's not the best, but the food wasn't bad either. Haven't been back for a couple of years now, wonder if Elvis's still alive. Pros: lively Cons: , parking more

Best Thai in LA 7/30/2004

Anyone who says the food is bad at Palms doesn't know squat about Thai food. As my friend from Thailand said, rather eloquently, ""Palms just like place in Thailand - GOOD place in Thailand!"" YEs the parking sucks, it's a problem. On weekends they have valet but it's crowded. The fried fish in a spicy stew is out of control. The Sum tom is great. I am fond of saying ""If you don't like the BBq Chicken at Palms, You don't like Chicken"". I thought the service was great considering how crowded it was. Pros: BBQ Chicken, Authentic Cons: , Crowded more

Food is great, Parking .... what parking 5/24/2004

I been to Palms often, the food there are great. If you haven't try the fried catfish you're missing out. And the deep fried fish soup, OH forget about it. Most people will only get the food that they knew. Trust me on this one, get the fried catfish salad. It is so good. Elvis is great. THE only thing i have a problem with is the FRICKING PARKING......if the food wasnt so good. FORGET IT. Pros: cheap more

REAL THAI FOOD... 4/29/2004

I agree that there are other thai restaurants in LA that serve better quality food and have better service... but this is really how Thai food is in thailand! Ive been to ChangMai (north) Bangkok (center) and Phuket and Samui (south) several times and the food in Palms is very authentic. (even the service is authentically bad..hehehe) A lot of my thai friends love this place and it is coz' of that reason. If you go to the Thai temple in North Hollywood, u will see how thaifood really is also... If your taste is more of the ""americanize"" ""health conscious"" type...then this is not the place for you. A lot of the restaurants here in LA are like that anyways....Erawan is also another good place too that is highend/high quality and authentic. But, lacks the selection and the real kick that Palm has. Pros: Great spicy food!, exotic choices, cheap! Cons: , bad service, long lines more

Overall food is awesome 2/21/2004

OK.. I live in the Bay area in San Fran but everytime I am in LA I cannot miss out delicious food this restaurant serves. I have been going here almost for a couple of years now and everything the food tastes better. Sometimes it sucks to go for dinner because the wait is long, and they dont really appreciate people who sit for long on their table. It did not happen to me at dinner, but a customer wasn't happy because they were kinda forcing him out for staying for too long. Once at lunch, they made me eat quicker and pay my bills quicker because they wanted to start preparing for lunch. Never mind, you are in Thai town and cute looking waitresses, better enjoy the food and head out for other activities in LA area. Also I would becareful of the valet parking in the area. Pros: Good food Cons: , Crowded, parking more

Elvis is the king, not the food 11/27/2003

Kevin, the guy who gets up on stage and does the Elvis impersonation, actually sounds like the original and isn't bad enough to spoil your meal. The food, however, is. Expecting a wonderful stir-fried chicken with chilli and basil, I got mouthfuls of dark, fatty chicken. The taste of game was the only thing that could compete with the inexplicable amounts of red and green pepper. One might wonder if they were masking the sub-standard herbs and cheap poultry with fiery peppers. Pros: Service, Elvis, Cheap Cons: Food, Elvis, Crowded more

overall pretty good 11/3/2003

The food was absolutely amazing, but the service was horrible. We ordered drinks but didnt get them til we were half way done with our meal. We had to ask three times before they were eventually brought to us. Also, we didnt even know who our waitress was. We saw here when we first ordered and when she gave us the bill. The ambiance was delightful until the Elvis impersonator began singing at 10:00pm. I had heard a lot of great things about this restaurant, so I am planning on going back. more

Horrid Food 10/24/2003

OK, So there is an Elvis impersonator. Great. Now the food? It's simply abysmal. I don't know if LA folks just don't know good Thai food, but this is more like bad Chinese. The chefs have never heard of the word subtle. It does not even approximate the wonderful Thai food I've had in DC (yes...) or San Francisco (Basil...). Isn't there well-prepared Thai food here? Stay away from this place unless you really, really like Elvis. Oh, and there's no valet parking so good luck finding a spot. Pros: Elvis Cons: Parking, Bad Food, Long Waits more

just so so 10/24/2003

This place is really just OK. The pad thai was very chewy, and the host and manager not very happy about having to take it off our table and the check. Will probably not go back again. more

Good thai 9/12/2003

Good food...and good entertainment :) Went there late Thursday night after partying at Cinespace...there is a woman there that sings karaoke. And on the weekends there is a singing Elvis...pretty interesting, I would definitely go back. The papaya salad and pad thai are both really good dishes! more

High Quality Thai food 2/20/2003

I have eaten at the Palms many times and its one of my favorite thai restaurants. My parents are both Thai and born in Thailand and they like this place too. So I recommend the Palms highly. Pros: Very Cheap, Good Food Cons: Parking more

en fuego 1/16/2003

I have frequented the Palms for the past two years and while wait lines have been known to be long depending on the night, I've found my dining experiences to be worth it. They have some fo the most authentic Thai food just short of being Thailand itself. Once I was seated, I have never had a problem with the wait staff, but it does help to be decisive in your choices right off the bat. The food usually comes out surprisingly fast considering the complexity of some of the dishes. Besides, it's tough to beat the Thai Elvis for live entertainment. Good food, good fun. Pros: great food, Thai Elvis Cons: parking, wait lines after 7 pm more

Simply Great 1/12/2003

This is one of the best places I've been to in LA. The spicy beef salad is amazing. So is the thai iced tea. Great food, a thai elvis, and cheap. Can't ask for anything more. Pros: Food, Value, Entertainment Cons: Long Wait more

Been there, had that 1/3/2003

The food was OK - nothing really bowled me over more than any other decent Thai restaurant. But Elvis...he was great! Close your eyes and the King was singing. And the guy is really nice, as we learned when we spoken with him outside as he grabbed a smoke. more

Awesome 11/7/2002

The best Salty Fish ried Rice & Fried Calamari in town. Highly recommended & always in my top 5. Pros: spacious, inexpensive Cons: hard parking more

Excellent food, and Thai Elvis! 9/26/2002

What more could you want? Kevin, the Thai Elvis, rocks and the food is the best Thai I've ever had. The panang with shrimp and the sweet and sour shrimp were so good I was practically licking the bowl afterward! And the steamed whole fish was so tender and buttery; it was excellent. It is definitely crowded, so go early (around 7pm) unless you don't mind waiting. And parking is a little dicey, don't even try the lot, look on Hollywood or Hobart Boulevards. Pros: Kevin, the Thai Elvis, excellent food, good prices Cons: long wait, limited parking more

9 8/4/2002

I love Palms Thai! I think it is the closest thing to real Thai food in the US. It's definitely worth the drive into Thai town. Afterwards, go next door and get fresh coconut/taro cookies off the grill at the Thai bakery. Pros: Thai Elvis!, inexpensive Cons: difficult parking more

Great Place to EAT! 7/30/2002

This place was really fun and had great food, the added bonus was the entertainment! Definitely a place to go with friends and have fun! Pros: live entertainment, good food, good prices Cons: Long waits, Very bad parking, crowded more
