OK, so it's quite similar to Indian for the uninitiated, but i maintain, there are differences!
anyway, pakistan tea house is a great cheap-eats find in the city hall/tribeca area. it's SO much better than all the similar fast-desi-food places like it in the area, and i would argue, in most of manhattan. their food is fresher usually and less greasy (though that's definitely part of the fun). the lady behind the counter can be intimidating but is very susceptible to flattery! learn a few urdu or punjabi phrases before you go and she'll be eating out of your hand.
everything is dirt cheap, but the daal-chawal (lentils and rice combo) is an especially good deal at $3.99. enough for two meals!
