About the Site

Who is Judy?

Judy's Book was started in 2004 by Andy Sack and Chris DeVore. When Andy and his wife Alexa moved to Seattle, Alexa's mom -- Judy -- gave them her "little green book", full of her local shopping tips and the best service providers in Seattle. Andy and Alexa relied on Judy's book for help and advice as they settled into their new city.

When Chris and his wife Emily needed a handyman, Andy passed along a recommendation from Judy's book and an idea was born: why not create a "little green book" for busy parents everywhere? Judy's Book is the result, a place where friends and neighbors share advice and discover the best in their communities.

Is there a maximum (or minimum) length for posts or deal descriptions? How much should I write?

There currently is no maximum length for posts or deal descriptions and the minimum length is one word.

That said a good rule of thumb is that most posts or deal descriptions should be between 25 and 150 words. In general on Judy's Book, people are looking for enough information to understand your opinion about a business or the most necessary details of a deal (is there a coupon code?, does the offer have any fine print?)

Does Judy's Book edit or delete content?

Judy's Book provides an open platform for members to share information and communicate with each other. As such, we do not review or edit posts, except in cases of abuse. Members can call attention to abusive posts by clicking on the "Flag" link at the bottom of each review or deal and following the instructions provided.

Every Judy's Book member agrees to abide by the Terms of Use (TOU) when they join. If a post or deal is flagged by another user and is found to violate our TOU, it will be permanently removed. (Repeat offenders may also be permanently banned from Judy's Book).

In general (non-legal) terms, Judy's Book will remove posts which:

  • Are libelous or factually inaccurate.
  • Encourage or further illegal activity.
  • Use inappropriate language (i.e. swearing)
  • Contain Adult content (i.e. porn)
  • Are not relevant to the reviewed item (reviews only) or are deliberately posted to the wrong category (reviews or advice).
  • Are meant to promote the user's own business or personal activities rather than provide information or opinion (i.e. spam).
