The service was good, but the food was bland and overcooked. We love the food at the other Paesano's locations, but this one is mediocre at best.

I have been to this river-walk location many many times, and each time I am always pleased with the food. My boyfriend gets a chicken dish with the most moist and delicious chicken I've ever tasted, and I get a gnocchi dish in alfredo sauce that is so perfectly cooked it's one of my favorite Italian dishes I've ever had. It's a very cute, romantic restaurant on the river-walk, my only complaint would be the service. The waiters and waitresses aren't usually the nicest or friendliest, but I don't go there for the service I go there for the food. And every single time, the food has blown me away. I highly recommend going here if you are going to be on the river-walk and craving a delicious Italian dinner! more

Go to Basse or 1604 for a real Paesano's Experience 12/18/2009

I went to the river walk location with my husband for our anniversary and was extremely disappointment. The best part about the meal was my crown and seven and the breaded artichoke hearts. The bread was terrible and we were told that they have different chefs and the chef's take their own liberties. If I'm going to spend the money at Paesano's I expect that I will get the same meal regardless of which one I go to. If the shrimp Paesano's wasn't as good. I recommend that if you want a real Paesano's experience, go to Basse or 1604. Pros: Nice location on the river Cons: Caters to tourist more

A new experience & new favorite! 9/20/2009

This was our first time & we loved it! Lobster bisque was awesome, if a bit salty. My shrimp Alfredo was delicious & hot from the oven/stove. My husband fell in love with his Penne Gorgonzola! Word of advice: share a dish unless you like doggie bags. The bread loaves were yummy & plentiful. Very nice staff. Sister in law was enticed by the dessert menu but forgot to ask the price :$11. But she ate all the Key lime cheesecake , smothered with Apple Strudle , a la mode. Weird combo, but she ate all, complained about the taste, & got the dessert free. Patient waiter deserves a medal. Pros: Great taste & generous portions Cons: $11 desserts? Come on! more

almost didn't make it in 12/30/2008

We attempted to get in this restaurant on Xmas Eve and whoever the manager was taking names seemed extremely frazzled and said he was hoping not to take anybody after 9:00 - would be too late,,,,blah, blah, blah... Very confusing.\r So the next afternoon (Xmas), we put our name down for a ""wait"" time - we were told no reservations and we left. When we showed up the same man as the night before told us 45 min to an hour and never looked at our name. We stepped to the side and another manager (who seemed to be more in charge and was very helpful and was helping all over the front of the restaurant) called our name 15 min. later and said he didn't know we were there, he just took a chance calling the name. We had a lovely seat and a wonderful meal. Linguine with creamy clam sauce (I've had all over Italian restaurants in Chicago) was excellent, pasta with gorgonzola sauce was Delicious!. Plain old spaghetti was almost like homemade, bread and olive oil were wonderful. Two other pasta dishes were great. The drinks were very good. \r The downside was this man who was handling the front seatings. We saw him tell at least 10 parties how long a wait they would have (even though there were some empty tables) and they left. \r Get someone else for that job and let everyone have a chance to taste that great food. Make sure you get a second person to help with seatings if you don't get in right away. It's worth the push. Pros: Great Italian food, nice atmosphere Cons: that man at the front desk on Xmas Eve more

Great food & service 10/6/2008

When I walked in to the restaurant, the wait staff was very nice that he gave me a table away from a big group so I was sitted in a more quit area. They started me with bread with olive oil with pepper and salt. The waiter gave me very good recommendation on what to choose from the menu. Finally I chose 'Tuna stead with reduced balsamic sauce on top of veggie with lemon butter sauce. It was very delicious!! The food cost ~ $30 with tips. The waiter kept checking on me to make sure I have everything I want. I would go back again if I am in the neighbourhood. Pros: Nice staff and food Cons: Parking more

BEST ITALIAN ON RIVERWALK 9/17/2008

I LIVE IN CANADA AND HAVE EATEN AT MANY LITTLE ITALIA'S. THE FOOD AT THIS PLACE WAS GREAT. I HAD A ZITI WITH SPINACH IN CREME AND TOMATO SAUCE. WOW. GREAT SERVICE AND FOOD HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. \r Pros: FOOD, SERVICE, EMPLOYEES Cons: MORE AIR CONDITIONER PLEASE!!! more

Terrible lazy waiter 4/17/2008

I thought food was ok. My wife had the signature Paesano shrimp dish which she did not enjoy. It was\r tasteless. Robert our waiter needs to learn some manners. Robert on numerous occasions would come to our table with his hands full and ask if we could grab our own plates from him, instead of dropping them off himself. We had wine that he never poured for us. As far as I am concerned I will never visit this establishment again. If the restaurant had any sense, Robert should be fired on the spot. Pros: okay food Cons: terrible service more

Good service, good food, great atomsphere 2/1/2008

Good service in a very cool Italian restaurant on the Riverwalk. Atmosphere is low-lit, romantic, bustling. Their house salad is outstanding. I ordered their baked meat ravioli which I found to be flavorful with a nice basil-tomato sauce. Excellent wine selection. Good service---attentive but not overbearing. Pros: Great food, great atmosphere, attentive service Cons: Parking more

Doesnt Compare... 1/29/2008

Go to the Basse location if you want good food. This place charges you $5 for a salad while it is included in the meal at the Basse location. The bread they give you is of cheap quality and they don't serve you olives the way they do at the original location. The Chicken Parmesan lacks flavor and the cheese is of poor taste compared to the original location. Service doesn't compare. Atmosphere doesn't compare. And they don't even carry Basse's signature dessert which is the glazed caramel apple slices. My girlfriend had the shrimp with the signature sauce and said it wasn't as good as the original place. This place is next to the Hard Rock Cafe, and with the food not being that good, deserves to be there. Avoid this tourist trap. Pros: One of the best places downtown for food. Cons: Doesnt mean much considering the original is way better and places like Rainforest Cafe and Hard Rock cafe are there.... more

Meditteranean salad, Yummy!!!!!!!!! 8/7/2007

This place is one of my favorites, the setting is nice, the service is great, a cool spot on the Riverwalk!\r I rate it better than the place on Basse, they don't have the meditteranean salad.\r I'll stick with Paesano's in the heart of SA...the riverwalk! Pros: location, food, great service Cons: busy more

Yuck 1/14/2007

My husband had been raving about this place so we went and he was talking about the garlic shrimp with spaghetti. i tried one of his and it was allright, the pasta was a mess and a REALLY small amount for hte high price. i got the soup of the day..it was a lobster bisque. HUGE mistake. it was sooooo fishy..i almost threw up. I told the waiter and he apologized, then my salad came out. another disaester. It looked like it had been threw a hurricane and just looked so un appitizing and i tried it and it was. The waiter and manager were great and comped the meal..so kudos on the service but the food is NOT good Pros: Good bread, good service Cons: the food and prices (for what it is) more

Great food but poor service 11/13/2006

My husband had ravioli & I had lasagna. Both were amazing. However, the host was absurdly snobby when we entered the restaurant/as we were seated and our waiter was terrible. The waiter's recommendation for a chianti was the most expensive on the list (shocking!) and he kept trying to take our plates away before we were completely finished eating. It was strange. Water glasses weren't refilled and once we said we weren't interested in dessert, we almost never saw him again. I definitely wouldn't rush back to this restaurant but it's a shame because the food really is great. Pros: Wonderful food Cons: Service more

Fantastic Italian and Seafood 10/2/2006

So there are three Paesano's in San Antonio. There's the riverwalk one which is the only one listed on city search but there's also one in the quarry as well as another location on highway 1604. I suppose the riverwalk adds to the ambiance but they serve the same food for the same price. Let me say this is one of the better italian restaurants in a city saturated with texmex. \r They have fantastic pasta dishes but I prefer the seafood. They serve bread which is always a plus but you should order a pre-meal snack. The shrimp paesano is the best thing to order by far - get it as an appetizer and then order one of the pasta dishes or the fish. It's all fantastic. \r They also have a wine server (i don't know the actual term) but he's a guy who is thoroughly educated in wine to help in the ordering process...Classy. Ask for help, the man is always dead on. \r This is one hell of a place to take a date. It's moderately priced for a very nice meal. For you and your date and a bottle of wine your looking at somewhere around $100 even which, as expensive as that sounds, is sopmewhat reasonable. It sure as hell isn't as expensive as Ruth Chris (by the way - overrated). \r Honestly, this is a great dinner place with great food, good, but more importantly, knowledgable service, and classy atmosphere. Take your date here, or your parents, or your dates parents and you'll find a middle of the road (price wise) resturant that everyone can find something they like. Give it a shot. Pros: food, wine, date spot Cons: veal no steak more

Riverwalks Best 1/3/2003

My wife and I dine here almost everytime we visit S.A. - never been disappointed. Shrimp Paesano is great as is fresh fish, pastas - noisey, but still comfortable and enjoy the ""people watching"" from the terrace. Pros: Good Value, Good Food, On The River Cons: Noisey AT Times, Always Crowded more

Go to Basse 6/6/2002

I didn't really enjoy this restaurant as much as I thought I would. I loved the Basse Paesanos, it was so so good. I wonder of the chef's are different, cause the food is much better. However, the scenery is great being that it's on the Riverwalk, really romantic so to speak! The food isn't bad, it's actually pretty good. I just favor the other Paesanos ... more
