Best

I have been coming to this bar for years, it really has only got better and better! The beer garden is awesome in the summer! I feel badly that some ex-staff have polluted this pu...

Worst

Just had a Sunday brunch at TJ Hanley's. The outside patio was spacious and pleasant and the omlettes were delicious... when they finally came. L-o-n-g wait even though the place...

Great out door space. 6/9/2008

Great outdoor space for the summer. (Good beer selections) Beer garden plus good food. All the big games on the many flat screens inside. And it has a pizza bar next to that. A little pricey though. Pros: Out door space and sports bar more

Best spot in Brooklyn 1/31/2008

Great, great spot. It really is the oldest bar in BK (if you don?t believe me check out out old photo on the wall of the bar when it opened!) The atmosphere is warm and cozy and if you don?t already know everyone when you walk in by the time you leave you will. Huge liquor selection and decent bottled and tap beer selection as well. All the tap beers are served in mind swirlingly tall glasses by the type of bartenders I didn?t think existed in this town anymore, friendly, entertaining and generous with the pours. The food is your normal bar fare, but done really well (I dream of the wings) and the kitchen is open till 3 am on weekends. Just what I need when I?m getting my drunk on. Also they give a shout out to thier fellow restaurant kin with an out of this world late night happy hour. (I?m in the wrong business.) If you haven?t been here you need to put on drinking shoes and go now because you are definately missing out. One night here and you?ll want to move in for good. Pros: Great booze selection, great bartenders Cons: no mirrors in the bathroom for us primpers more

Avoid this place! Bad service and management 9/30/2007

Avoid this place at all cost. I went with a group for my friend's birthday. I arrived after my friends were seated but sat at the head of the table. After 15-20 minutes, I was finally able to get a waiter's attention to get a menu and a setup. When I inquired to the waitress about wine, I finally had to ask for a wine menu which she begrudgingly brought to me. My friends' food arrived before I even had a chance to order and when the server asked ""Anything else?"" I had to ask if I could order. Vegetarian options are limited to salad and cheese quesadillas. (Although an online menu shows pasta and pizza...where was that when we were there??) When a friend asked if they could make veggie tacos, he was flatly told ""No"". My friend's mother had to send her fish back because the breading was not cooked properly. I asked if they did anything for someone's birthday (I had read on another site they might give a drink) but the snitty waitress said no.\r \r I joked that the gratuity must surely be included with the kind of service we were receiving and sure enough the bill came with a 20% gratuity added. (I've heard of 18% but 20% is really presumptuous and we told the manager so and he removed it.) The waitress did not appreciate our candor and when my friend tried to speak to the manager about things further, he ended up telling her she was being sarcastic and she needed to leave the restaurant!\r \r I saw some negative reviews on another site about this place...boy they weren't kidding! Never again! Too bad because the outdoor seating area is really nice as was the DJ. The busboys and runners were great too. Maybe with more professional management and waitstaff it would be ok? Pros: Good DJ, Nice Outdoor Seating Cons: Service, manager attitude, food qualtiy more

just horrible 9/21/2007

horrible atmosphere, really bad music--almost as if they're TRYING to drive you out! just do yourself a favor and skip this place. the crowd is 50-something hardcore alcoholics and the staff looks like they want to shoot themselves. you will feel the same way. more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE - WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO MY WORST ENEMY 7/31/2007

I recently visited PJ Hanley's located in Brooklyn, which was a very bad choice made by friends. We will start with saying there was no air conditioning inside, which my friends have told me is a natural occurence there. We ordered drinks that consisted of warm tap and bottled beer and there is obviously is a problem with their liquor being mixed with water because one person ordered a Scotch in my group that was light in color and did not taste right . We brought this to the attention of the Manager and the replacement was served out of a new bottle and it was considerbly darker in color tasted fine while being poured right next to the first one in question. We also ordered food and and it consisted of Buffalo Wings that were under cooked, but were not taken off the bill by the Manager after the complaint was issued to the waitress. Please avoid this bar at all costs, not a good place to go. We actually walked up the block and stayed at a bar called Abeline, which was a great experience in comparison. Pros: Convenient Cons: Watered down liquor, warm tap and bottled beer more

Best Pizza, Awesome bartender. 4/26/2007

I've been going to the newly renovated 'Hanleys for a while now, each time I'm more and more impressed, I like to eat at the bar, (but now the weather is getting better, the garden is looking very tempting)Their bartenders are fantastic, except for the snotty blonde on Sundays.Their burgers are delicious, I recommend trying anything they have as a special, The meatballs are really tasty, Also they had a fantastic orichiette with sausage and brocolli rabe. They have a great beer, scotch and bourbon selection, and if you want to learn anything about them, ask the redhead bartender, she knows more about Liquor than your average bartender, and is very friendlly and helpful, a reason to make this bar my new local.\r I wish the new owners the best of luck and I am delighted they made it such a welcoming place Pros: Bartender, great food Cons: Waiters, eat a the bar more

Nice renovation, excellent pizza! 5/2/2006

Finally went to the renovated PJ Hanley's, happened to be the day of the immigration rally and the kitchen was short-staffed. Menu was limited to pizza which was excellent - thin crust, fresh ingredients, very tasty. While no one can top Grimadi's for best pie in Brooklyn, PJ's have a legitimate claim to best pizza in Carroll Gardens. Pros: pizza, draft beer, historic bar more

Smith Street - Friday Night 3/25/2006

Occasionally, Toni & I go to Court Street for dinner on Friday nights. My family loved the old Hanley's and we went to the new Hanley's for my nephew's 21st Birthday. Beside them not having the seafood special, they did not have mozzerella for the appetizer. Once we did recieve our dinner, it was delicious. The wait person did not ask if we wanted another drink. They did however offer a birthday shot for the kid. They never asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. So we got the check and went to the bar. We would have spent alot more money if the waitress had been experienced. I guess she needs to learn sometime. Pros: bartender, menu Cons: sunday night more
