Avoid! 3/14/2007

I have to agree with ""Aborant's"" review! this place was terrible! The managers and waitstaff were drunk and rude. The place was filled with local odd looking people playing pool and darts and UN people who thought they were too cool and good looking. Drinks were overpriced and happy hour mixed drinks are very weak. Food comes in small portions and is overpriced!! oh, and music sucked too! Cons: Drunk and rude bartenders, waitresses, managers, rude crowd. more

Ugh. 3/13/2007

The bar was way too crowded with an older trucker looking crowd playing darts and pool. Drinks and food are totally overpriced and the bartenders and waitresses are completely rude and disgusting behavior. There's not much to say about this place, big disappointment. more

DO NOT GO HERE. I heard through the grapevine that this was a fun after work place, but what a mistake. The bar was packed with people that thought that they were cooler than each other, the over priced food made me horribly sick, and the drunken wait staff and managers were rude to everyone around them. You are better off home drinking $3.00 wine and eating pretzels. more

Lively Crowd - Great Drink Specials 2/10/2007

I usually don't hang in midtown, but I work in the area & we needed a place to go - we were taking a coworker out because it was her last day. I suggested this place based on the reviews I had read. A good time was had by all. The drink specials vary nightly & are a great $$ saver [On Thursday - the special was Stoli flavored drinks]. At $5 a pop, was feeling good after spending only $20. The bar staff was friendly & the wait staff was attentive. The crowd was lively & varied. The DJ played all types of music so everyone will be pleased regardless of musical tastes - rock, hip-hop, 70's, 80's, 90's, & current faves. The place was cranking at 6 when we arrived & was still going strong at 9 when we left on Thursday. Added benefit - get there before 6 & happy hour is 2-for-1. Although I personally didn't have any of the finger foods, they looked & smelled yummy. The place is larger than it appears from the outside because it has 2 floors. There's a bar on the 2nd floor & an outside area where you can smoke & drink at the same time - a rarity in NYC! I strongly suggest this bar as a place to kick back after work & have a few with friends - considering the location, a good deal for the money. Pros: Daily drink specials, lively crowd, 2-for-1 happy hour, outside smoking patio, music more

Avoid this place 1/3/2007

Not exciting at all. I'm all for paying for location and good food/ atmosphere, but this place does not have it. It's really a pub trying to hide itself. the bartenders were rude, the managers were drunk and the crowd was pretty dull. The music could have used major makeover as well. not sure why people would recommend this place. Pros: Outdoor Cons: Small food portions and drinks, expensive more

Very cool, rare find in the hood... 10/31/2006

There are lots of pubs around here, or bars in fancy steak houses, but not neighborhood bar type places. It is never crowded when I go here on the weekends. Weekdays, sure... the after work crowd from Midtown (and lots of folks from Pfizer, I'd suspect). But, there is a great upstairs which is quieter with tables for bar food and a second bar, and also a GREAT new deck on the back open in all reasoable weather. I DON'T find it a meatmarket, but I also tend not to hang down by the billiards and sports broadcasts... more likely to go upstairs or outside and catch up with a friend. more

horrible waitstaff! 9/4/2006

after reading some good reviews, I thought I should go check out this new neighborhood spot! It was the biggest waste of time! The place was decently full, and the waitresses could have cared less, they stood around while everyone had no choice but to crowd around the bar. And if you ask me, that is some pricey bar food for such small portions! Crowd wasn't too great either, too many older, rowdy locals playing pool and darts. Pros: outdoor Cons: expensive, small portions, older locals hang here more

Tons of fun, little pretention 8/22/2006

On a random night in the city, my friends and I were looking for a great bar to have fun. We came across Overlook, what looks like a regular pub from the outside is far from ordinary on the inside. The service at the bar is great and fast, and the upstairs area is a perfect outdoor area for a get together. My friends and I enjoyed our night so much, that we grabbed a table and ordered appetizers, another plus. I will let it be known, overlook can expect our patronage for many crazy nights in the city to come. highly recommended. more

Best atmosphere ever! 8/20/2006

Our company organizes parties in Overlook and we all love it. Drink specials and the mini burgers are fabulous!! Staff is very friendly and helpful. I couldn't believe that our waitress actually ran through the rain to bring us drinks under the tent, it was pouring!!! Definitely great party spot or a happy hour hang out! Also, sbsolutely right spot for the singles. It seems like everyone who goes there or works there is hot and single! Way to go Overlook! Pros: Smokers friendly patio! Cons: It sometimes gets too crowded more

Horrible Service 8/3/2006

Was sent to this place by a friend in the neighborhood of the bar, was a waste of time.
