They're doing construction in the front, so don't be dismayed if you think you've missed it. Overall we had a great experience and will go back. This is a perfect place to relax...

I just sent this letter to the owner of Overland Cafe:\r \r ""I am thinking about writing a ""bad"" review about you and your restaurant after what happened today. Instead of making things better you made things worse! \r \r To remind you of the incedent...I sent back the salmon on my salad (which was not cooked) & my boyfriend finshed his meal by the time it returned to me. \r \r First off, you don't ask the customer what you can do to make it better. That's a loaded question that I couldn't answer without some thought & then my boyfriend broke the uncomfortable silence with saying ""Nothing"". You should have simply offered to take it off the bill!\r \r Secondly, when you did not take it off the bill, I felt just in asking for dessert on the house to ""make it better"". How dare you rudely tell me that was inappropriate! I am shocked by your cheapness ... the dessert was actually less expensive than my meal! \r \r I have been a waitress for over 10 years and what you did was wrong! I actually applied for a job at your place a couple weeks ago and I am glad you did not choose me.\r \r We actually really like the food at your place and it's unfortunate that your personality seems to be getting all the bad reviews (as I've noticed)!""\r \r Sincerely,\r DW\r \r \r \r \r \r more

Your observations about this individual are only the tip of the iceberg. Only one word comes to mind, Sociopath more

HORRIBLE 4/28/2010

I had been to this restaurant before and thought it was always just ok. However, I went there this past Sunday with a few friends. The owner was exceptionally rude, condescending, and did not seem to care at all about his customers or staff. We walked out and will not be returning again. The cheap champagne is NOT worth supporting this business!!!! Pros: Nothing Cons: Bad food, horrible service, rude owner more

Never Again 12/13/2009

We had booked a table for Sunday morning. I arrived on time but I was told that I need to wait until at least half of the group was there. The lady on the front desk was awfully rude when she conveyed this message to me. She gave no importance to her customer and dealt with me while talking to other colleagues and totally ignoring my presence there. I agreed to wait since it was the restaurant policy. But, it kind of felt that the policy was only for colored people!!! May be if I was white I would have been treated differently/better. I am an India. 3 out of 5 of my group arrived and we asked to be seated. Then the manager came and told that they need to have the whole group before they seat us! Com'on! What's your problem? We went there once before as a big group of 12 people and this was our second time and probably the last time. I don't understand the point of booking a table when you have to wait anyway. The food isn't even anything great. We go there only to have a nice chat not for the food. And now after being treated this way, the Cafe is going to be out of our list of favorites. Pros: Okay Cafe for casual chitchat, not for food!! Cons: Bad Customer Care more

If getting f'd up with the wife and kids on a Sunday morning sounds like a family activity that interests you... the Overland Cafe is where it?s at. Pros: bottomless mimosas Cons: bottomless mimosas more

Not bad, not great 4/27/2008

I have been to Overland Cafe a few times, and each time I say to myself, ""Well, that wasn't bad, but it wasn't great."" The dishes are tasty but not that memorable. I would definitely rate this place a solid good if the dishes weren't overpriced. However, I will keep going back because it does offer a variety of dishes that's a notch above going to Carrow's or Denny's. I do have to say that I am picky when it comes to my olives, and the ones that come with the Grilled Cafe Chicken are yummy. You will definitely come out of this place feeling full and satisfied with the exception of the price. Service is a tad slow and parking can be difficult. Pros: good food Cons: pricey, parking more

Great place for breakfast 7/13/2007

The breakfast is very good here. Good eggs and good Sunday-morning breakfast type of place. The service is good on some days, not so good on other days. Pros: good breakfast food Cons: not good diner food more

Rip off and then some 7/8/2007

The food was worse than mediocre and severely overpriced. I thought the service was good until I happened to look up another purchase on my checking account and found out the waitress charged an unauthorized tip to my check card even though we left her a very generous cash tip! Needless to say, I don't recommend this place. There are so many better options in West LA/Culver City...skip this hellhole. Pros: fast service, there's no one there Cons: thieving waitstaff, crappy food more

Great Brunch 10/29/2006

You can't go wrong with brunch at Overland Cafe. Tons of dishes to choose from (all very tasty) and all-you-can-drink champagne (the cheap stuff, of course) for only $4.99 per person. Pros: BRUNCH Cons: Parking more

A variety of great food, cozy setting 7/26/2006

They're doing construction in the front, so don't be dismayed if you think you've missed it. Overall we had a great experience and will go back. This is a perfect place to relax and be cozy, while enjoying good food. The room is surrounded by booths, with dark wood tables in the center. There is warm, dark lighting with similarly colored contemporary art. The servers, both british women, were very friendly, helpful and warm. Even called us ""loves"". Most imporantly- the food- appetizer of tamales- great. They don't make them there, but taste fresh and are quite good (having just returned from South America). I ordered the chicken and grilled vegetable salad, dressing on the side. For my strict diet program, this is the perfect place! Very tasty salad, I will order it again. My friend was recommended to try the Shrimp Pesto Pizza. Sounds odd, but when we ate it- tasted great! Almost as good as Pomodoro pizza, to which we are very loyal. Overall: Great variety, a lovely place to relax but dine well. Pros: Quiet ambience, Friendly service, Variety of very good food Cons: Parking more

Best Burger in Town! 5/15/2006

I've frequented Overland Cafe a handful of times, and each visit does not disappoint. On my last visit, I ordered a burger, expecting the usual. And much to my surprise, it was the juiciest, tastiest burger I've had in a long time. The meat was thick and succulent, the cheddar just sharp enough, and the fixing are produce-fresh. Don't miss out on the happy hour either...all appetizers are only $5, and house wine and beer are at a nice price. This place is consistently yummy and an excellent value. more

A Great Hole In The Wall 2/14/2006

We found this place 5 years ago and I must say that this little hole in the wall always provides the best food, good price, and unbeatable service. My husband and I could not get a reservation for valentines so we decided to go to Overland Cafe and it was the best decision we made. They served the best martinis w/ strawberries inside, filet mignon, best ice tea and delicious dessert. All the waitresses are very nice and mindful, excpet for the new Asian girl. Other than that, this place rocks! Pros: Super Service, Awesome Food, Great Paintings Cons: Crowded on Weekends more

Great neighborhood cafe for something different 1/23/2006

You'll drive right by this place if you are cruising too quickly down Overland, but we decided to walk the three blocks from home a couple months ago--and are we glad we did! My partner and I have entirely different tastes in food (I'm a vegetarian, he's a meat and potatoes guy), and we were both completely satisfied with Overland Cafe. The prices are reasonable and the portions seem to range from just enough to very generous. The bread basket is to die for, with warm pita and more. I'd highly recommend Overland Cafe for lunch anytime or a casual, no attitude dinner with family or friends. Pros: variety on menu, reasonable prices Cons: limited parking more

not worth it 11/29/2005

had a group of five the other nite for dinner. if all five people agree that the food isn't that good, then i think that's a sure sign not to go there again. calamari appetizer was kinda weak. penne pasta was served with spoon - i guess b/c so soupy. was bland, as was most of the other dishes. thought it'd be a nice lil' quaint place, but wouldn't really recommend this place. our group ordered: tamale, mojito chicken, chicken penne, some other spicy chicken dish, soup. stay away from all those. more
