Good, but be prepared to wait! 1/8/2012

I went with a group of 4 other people and we called ahead to make sure we didn't have a long wait on a Saturday morning. When we arrived we were told we'd have to wait 25 minutes, but we were sat 55 minutes later. However, we were given a bowl of fresh fruit because our wait was so long, so we were all relatively happy with that! Very nice touch OPH! We all loved our food and the wait time was nothing! I had the three little pigs in a blanket and the other people at the table had the fresh strawberry crepes, the granola pancakes, the pumpkin pancakes, and the garden dutch baby. I think we all agree it was delicious, but the dutch baby was all our favorite! I would definitely return, but I would make sure I had time to wait if going on a Saturday or Sunday morning. more

Very good neighborhood breakfast spot 12/24/2010

I've been a neighborhood regular here for 12 years. I'm a bruncher/breakfaster, so not familiar with lunch options. But as far as breakfast goes, you really can't go wrong. Friendly, speedy service and delicious food. (The whole wheat french toast is delicious!) If I were pressed for something that could be improved upon, I'd say the coffee. But the food really is delicious! more

Horrible Service 4/14/2010

The service here is absolutely horrible. We were greeted with a stern look and ""how many"" I had a 16 month old on my hip and was never once offered a high chair or kid menu, had to ask and wait for both. We saw our waitress once, to take our order, otherwise it was mainly the person serving coffee getting us what we needed. After being seated and already being disgusted with the service, my mother received the small order of french toast when she ordered the large, which the waitress at the end argued was the correct price. My mother goes there once a week and knows what she is ordering and what she should be getting for her money. The food is very good, but should be charged for a fraction of the price considering the disgusting service you receive. I have never once in my many visits had good service here. Pros: good food Cons: Service more

Cons: LONG lines more

The BEST place for breakfast in the Cities! 6/28/2009

Just about every weekend you'll find me at one (or both) of the Original Pancake locations in Edina and Eden Prairie. I consider the Edina location the ""original"" OPH, and it is beautifully decorated with stained glass that I'm told came from an old mansion. It has recently gone through a few renovations that have slightly changed the decor to match the new Eden Prairie location, but it still retains the cozy, friendly atmosphere, mainly due to the wonderful wait staff. They are great at recalling the little details about how I like my breakfasts, and know my friends and I by name. Yes, the wait can be long, and yes, they do have a policy that they only seat full parties, but it just means you need to plan ahead for a wonderful breakfast! Give them a call before you leave the house and they'll put you on a list so that when your party arrives your wait will be shorter. It's worth it to wait for the amazing food - try the Dutch Garden, which was recently added to the menu after much persistence by Raymond Yates, a local musician and OPH fanatic. Or try anything on the menu that fits your fancy; you'll leave stuffed and I guarantee you won't be able to stay away for long! Pros: Decor, friendly wait staff, fireplace, awesome food Cons: Temperature in the restaurant is too cool - bring a sweater more

Very Busy & Very Rude 3/7/2009

The wait is to long 40 minutes?? The hosts are terrible. The food\r might be good but the service is so bad. Don't waste your time \r waiting. I would go across the street and eat somewhere else. \r Their service has gone down hill and I can't believe people are\r even willing to wait 40 minutes for Breakfast? Are you kidding me. \r I recall when the wait was more like 20 minutes. They truly need to do something\r about this and get a better staff!! more

not coming back 1/28/2009

\r \r \r \r \r Just want to let everybody know about the RUDEST SERVICE I have ever seen! The table wait was 40+ minutes. We had 7 people in our party-- a 39 week pregnant lady, a 3 year old child and an 81 year old Grandmother. This restaurant has a policy NOT TO SIT any party unless all members are present and boy they will fight to stick to it! When they were ready to seat us my brother was parking the car and in 2 minutes would have joined us. The manager, Heather Zimmerman, would not wait and gave our table away. When we confronted Heather, she told us we could LEAVE or wait for the table. This was as much a matter of principle for me as it was for the restaurant's management, so all 7 of us left and we won't be coming back. We went to Crave, the restaurant across the street, and were promptly seated and treated as guest with a smile all the way.\r When I go out, I go out to relax. The sitting policy may be good for their wallets, but is terrible customer service and sticking so closely to the policy is just bad for business. While for now their business is good, what comes up must come down and boy will it come hard.\r \r Pros: location Cons: crowded, rude, wait etc. more

Great Place to stop for a while!!! 8/2/2008

I dont really know what all of you mean. Everytime we go into OPH yes, the lines are long, but dont you kind of expect that from a great restaurant? My family and I have always been greated warmly and we feel welcome, like we are in someones home. I watch the staff run around fast, but they are efficient and great at what they do. They visit with the older people and laugh alot with the guests...I think that is great ! The food is exceptional, Better than anything around. Its not some corporate square...Its a small town restaurant in the city. Pros: Huge portions, Beautiful place, Nice staff Cons: It is warm in the summer more

Slow service and the food made me ill. 6/26/2008

Maybe the breakfast experience is better, but lunch was awful! The place was understaffed and our server was absolutely frazzled. Service was slow and we waited over twenty minutes for five 'dollar pancakes' for my daughter. To top off the bad service, their Cobb Salad made me sick. Definitely not going back. more

The best food, the worst hostesses. 3/15/2008

I have to agree with the others here. The hostesses are horrible. I can usually deal with it up but it send my husband off the deep end. They are wretched and you have to deal with them every single time you go there. Once you get past the ugly gatekeepers the food ROCKS! The pancakes are so good, the butter is amazing, the syrup is delicious. But the best part of the menu is the bowl of raspberries. I have not had any server issues except to say they are over worked. Pros: The food, the rasberries. Cons: The hostesses, they are bad people. The wait. more

Best breakfast in the Cities! 1/22/2008

Great spot for breakfast, warm and cozy atmosphere. Always the best food and service, but the wait can be long on the weekends. Try the Apple Pancake and Thick-Cut bacon, both are amazing! 5 STARS! Pros: Food, Coffee, Overall feel Cons: Can be busy more

Great Food | Poor Customer Service 10/18/2007

OHP has excellent food, as I hinted at in my subject line - but let me tell you - there has probably only been a handful, if that, of time they have given me the correct order. There is always something missing - from simply an order of toast, to the worst mistake you could EVER make: Missing Bacon. Its a sham. But I still love the food. \r \r My advice to you: Double-Check your orders to ensure consistency and quality service.\r \r Thanks more

Long wait, somewhat rude at times, but, ahhh the food and the coffee!!! 2/28/2007

I have been going to OPH since it opened almost 30 years ago. Yes, the lines are long. Yes, some of the hostesses are rude. But, I have only had a few servers that were rude. \r \r But, when I bite into that bacon, or drink that glorious coffee, it all fades into the background. \r \r I have learned to arrive just as the doors open and like the rest of the early risers, we traipse in and seat ourselves. The servers swing around, bring us our coffee (and cream for me) and listen as we recite our list of breakfast treats. Sometimes I try to trip up the server by ordering something different, but, they never miss a beat. If I order a waffle and bacon, I also get a side of toast as desert. One time I forget to order the toast and the server brought it out anyways. Now that is service!!.\r \r The prices are high and the wait is long. But, bring a book or newspaper to read. \r \r Pros: The Food and the Coffee Cons: The hostesses must think they are from New York more

GREAT food, HORRIBLE management. 9/3/2006

Every meal here has been the best but without fail it is painfully obviius that this is the worst run place on the planet. We have never waited less than 20 minutes and every single hostess is beyond rude, seriously inexcusably rude. If you know that you are going to be this busy all the time, hire extra food runners and staff to refill drinks. It is so easy. Teach you lousy greeting staff how to do their jobs and smile or quit. If you do go to enjoy their amazing food (it is the BEST breakfast in the Twin cities, really). Call them on EVERY mistake, from the wait time, to the lousy greeting to the lack of staff and then maybe we can get this restuarant finally running well. Pros: AMAZING food. Cons: THE WORST GREETERS EVER AND TERRIBLY LONG WAIT TIMES. more

Definitely NOT like Oregon 8/7/2005

The Oregon locations that share this name are busy too, but the people are friendly & their menus much more/better brekafast fare. My 4 of 5 trips to the Edina location for takeout have been disappointing...from poor service & long waits to items missing from my order when I get home. The food I did have (burger, chocolate chip panackages to name a few) were pretty darn good though. Pros: Pancakes are yummy Cons: Customer Service, Incomplete orders more

An Ablsolute Must for Breakfast Lovers 7/16/2003

This place is a little bit of heaven on earth. It's very laid back with a very nice staff. The food is incredible and worth ever dollar. Any person from 4 to 104 will love this place, as long as they like breakfast food. Everythring from the eggs to the apple pancake is absolutely incredible. If you don't get there at the right time you may have to wait a little bit but he wait is definitely worth it. more

pancakes 3/4/2003

the lingonberry pancakes were wonderful! They were very thin, and I put sour creme on also.! Great! Pros: variety, good food, inexpensive Cons: very busy more

OPH is heaven SENT! 12/13/2002

Original Pancake House (or as we call OPH) has by far the most amazing pancakes ever possibly imagined by modern humans. My friends and I joke that the pancakes are made by magical midgets-because they are just THAT GOOD! The service could have a little to be desired, and the wait is usually long (but you can call ahead and get your wait cut in half), but it is SO worth it! I hope they open more of these, so maybe someday I can have OPH anywhere in the world!!! Pros: Awesome, Inexpensive, Amazing Cons: long line more

afavorite 11/23/2002

breakfast is always good and onsistent. service is friendly and your coffee is always full.... only downside is wait can be long... Pros: good food, fresh sqeezed oj, easy access Cons: wait can be long, crowded more

Do they think they're doing ME a favor? 11/12/2002

The hostesses are consistently rude and crabby to customers. They act like you're an annoying interruption of their day. You can call ahead to be put on the seating list, but it's a system I've never been able to figure out. You don't get seated any sooner once you arrive. The wait person usually doesn't check to make sure you've got enough coffee, even when there's a bit of a wait for food. Yes, the food is wonderful, but by the time we've finished our meal I usually resent the way we've been treated vs. how much our breakfast cost. We used to eat there a lot, but we prefer other places with less aggravation. Pros: Great food Cons: Rude treatment, long wait, inattentive service more
