I'm not so sure about crazy's post telling people not to go here. I grew up in San Antonio and recently moved to Houston and I tell everyone about all the Blanco Cafe's in SA. Yes, there service can be slow...But the food is amazing. Their cheese enchilada's are to die for. Everything is delicious. I have been going here since I was a kid. Great food and it's worth the wait! more

I enjoyed an enchilada platter at Blanco Cafe a few weeks back. Delicious food but just mediocre service. If they get fairly busy, expect to wait a little while for your food/refills. Still would recommend for a quick afternoon lunch though. more

The service here is the worst service I have EVER had in my life. We had to ask for refills and when we stopped the waitress once to ask her for silverware that one of my co-workers never received she started walking away without acknowledging that we even spoke to her and before we could ask her for anything else. She also felt there was no need to actually hand each one of us our plates, instead she set all of them at one end and expected us to figure out whose plate was whose as well as pass it down to each other. The staff here look like they hate their jobs and treat there customers like crap. I took two of my coworkers here for lunch and it cost me $40 for three people. They charged one coworker twice for lemonade because there are no refills. I ordered queso and chips and they gave us maybe 15 chips to go with it, when I asked for more chips, since we had a full cup of queso still sitting in front of us they charged me for another order of chips. Of course they never mentioned that if you wanted more chips that you would have to pay more for them or that a refill of lemonade would cost extra. When I got to the front to pay the cashier/owner she doesn't even have the time to look up to or speak to who is paying her and of course when I asked about the extra for chips she gave me a look like I was an idiot and told me that's just how it goes. Can NOT believe this place is even still open. I will be posting this message everywhere I can find to post it as well as warning every person I run into in downtown San Antonio to never step foot here. I will also let anyone I know here in SA, Austin, Houston and Dallas that they would not want to ever go to Blanco's and to warn anyone that they know as well. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!!! more

Good food! 8/19/2010

This is a very good place to eat in San Antonio. The service is great and the food is excellent. As the name suggests, it is definitely a ""cafe""...not a nice restaurant to impress anyone. more

Original Blanco Cafe is Breakfast 8/18/2009

Great burritos and tex mex food. We love to go here when in San Antonio. But the surprise is it is a great breakfast spot served all day for those that do not get up at the crack of dawn. Try them out. more

Awesome mexican food at great price 5/23/2008

This place is not on the Riverwalk with the overrated high priced restaurants. This is a simple, high quality place that has fresh food with an authentic taste. The staff is friendly and this is where the locals eat. It is a 5 minute walk from most Riverwalk hotels on St Mary's and simply is the best. It is only open for breakfast and lunch, unfortunately. We had chorizo w eggs, refried beans, carne guisada and fresh tortillas and coffee - wonderful!! Pros: authentic food more

A San Antonio landmark. 8/13/2002

There are literally thousands of mexican food restaurants in San Antonio. I would only recommend a few -- Blanco Cafe is one of the top five mexican food restaurants in San Antonio. Pros: tastes great, inexpensive, no frills Cons: zero ambience more
