In April 2007, I was diagnosed with stage 3 thyroid cancer. At 26, being told that you have cancer is really the last thing you expect to hear. The doctors also told me that I would probably lose most of the use of my left shoulder. I started to prepare myself for my shoulder rehabilitation. Two weeks after my 8-hour surgery I went to my first day of physical therapy at Walker. I could barely move my neck side to side, so we started out slow, doing different neck stretches. As the days went on, I was able to achieve looking to either side and up and down. Once my neck was on its way we started working on my shoulder. I have to say, my shoulder is defiantly on its way to a full recovery. I still have a long way to go, but I am confident that the treatment, and care I receive at Walker will get me there.
