On the Border is a good local restaurant if you like Tex Mex food and a good margarita. On weekends the place is packed, and the bar area is most likely standing room only. The place is loud, so it is perfect for families with little kids. Service has ranged from okay to excellent, depending on the server. The margaritas are great, and the salsa is fresh. If you are looking for more traditional Mexican fare, don't bother with this place, because it is very "Americanized"! Your food comes on platters, and most entrees can be shared. The fajitas with carnitas (shredded pork) are great...the steak in the steak fajitas is on the fatty side. The cheese dip is Velveeta-ish, but it is good if you like nacho cheese dip. The chips are usually crispy, but sometimes they are a bit rubbery or soggy. In this case the staff is happy to provide you with a fresh basket of chips. All in all, this is a good place for students, families, friends, and more.
