It can be kind of ""touristy"" but if you embrace that aspect of it, it's a lot of fun. Lots of places to eat and enjoy a margarita, with mariachi performances in the restuarants and sometimes on the street. Lots of cheap and charming goods to buy, as sourveneirs-- puppets, Mexican flags, milagros, silver jewelry, leather goods, artwork. A fun place to spend a leisurely afternoon or evening. I avoid the area on any holiday, when special events like the blessing of the animals draw large crowds.
