Shake the hand of a soldier's mother... 2/24/2011

I have been in San Antonio for just about four days now, and had the pleasure of stopping in today, twice. :) My throat was parched and in need of the mineral rich sweet tea this town is known for. Though I happened in at an early, semi awkward time, the help and assistance the staff and ownership were willing to show to a random stranger was enough to set me back in my boots and take notice. Since I was in a bit of a hurry and needed to post some things for my volunteers group, Texas Soldiers Initiative I could only imagine the near-panic that must have shown on my face when I was informed that there was no wi-fi available just yet. (There had been a mix-up on the delivery of computer equipment for the establishment.) The lady behind the antique, malt shop style counter was overwhelmingly helpful..even going so far as to offer me her own personal air card and key code. I noticed the picture on her desktop computer of a soldier overseas, in what looked like the sands of Afghanistan or Iraq... and decided to mention my volunteer work as of late. You should come in for a handshake with this proud reserve mother, and stay for anything else that may occur. -Review by, Alex Gaddy Co-Founder Texas Soldiers Initiative more

What a big disappointment! 6/30/2009

There isn't enough space here to say what all I DIDN'T like about this place. I went for a typical diner lunch and found a funky taqueria that serves 8 Ruffles Potato Chips on their lunch plates. This place in no way represents a typical diner/soda shop bar that it looks like from the outside. The owner stomped around barking orders like a pitbull from across the room. The staff ran around like scared chickens scattering in her path. I couldn't wait to choke down my $7 BLT on two thin pieces of wonder bread and 8 Ruffles and skedaddle. Worst lunch choice I made this year. Pros: Convenient Location Cons: Bad Food, Shouting staff, unpleasant vibe more

Welcoming hospitality right here a traditional diner style spot in safe area: Olmos Park Pharmacy 11/1/2008

Betty, the owner and her regulars were super helpful in helping acquaint me with the area. This is a great spot if you like down-home diners and chatting up with the locals. Pros: nice people, good diner style food, good neighborhood Cons: not a fancy place but a real good place! more

Avoid the food, the service, and the entire place if possible! 10/5/2008

I realize the pharmacy/""bharmacy"" thrives on its old-school traditions and what-not. But the level of service and quality of food cannot be over-looked on account of its retro and dated appeal... Pros: nice location, they employ mentally disabled staff Cons: menu, staff more

Bygone era 3/31/2005

Sit at the counter and watch your shake being made. And by all means get the shake--they're excellent. The pimento cheese sandwich was bland, but everything else was good. Stick to the basics and you can't go wrong. Pros: charm, value Cons: limited seating more
