Classy Place 12/15/2009

A very classy place for drinks and dinner - the clientele there is definitely of the upper lip, higher class, and it was quite packed at 7PM last night (the crowd filtered out by 8:30 or so, maybe they all left to catch a show at the opera or something). We had nowhere to go after dinner so we took our time and enjoyed our meal. more

Horrendous people skills, nasty food 2/18/2008

I ordered from Ollies while staying in Manhattan for business. I was on hold for almost 10 minutes before I was able to place my order, and had to repeat everything atleast twice. The person taking my order didnt simply ask me to repeat what I had just said, but semi-screamed ""what??"" with a nasty tone... I admit I am from Texas, but my accent is not that bad... I pre-paid via credit card over the phone. \r \r About 45 minutes later the food arrived, and the driver could not understand that I had already paid and kept insisting I pay him with ""cash only"". After me showing him my credit card and gesturing repeatedly with my hand against my head to represent ""phone"", he finally said ok and left.\r \r The chicken I got was very sinewy, fatty, chewy, and pretty bland... very sub standard airport style chinese food. All in all, a bad taste was left in my mouth all the way around. Cons: EVERYTHING more

Great Value but Horrible, Angry, Disconnected Servers 4/5/2007

Not only are they hostile and push you out the minute you finish your last forkfull but: Their cooks use the bathroom without washing; they are constantly making fun of American and tourists, silverware many times comes to you with caked on vegetables and they are doing you a favor by coming to your table. more

Ollies-Dissappointed 3/17/2007

Dissappointed. I have ordered from there twice and the only item I enjoyed was the pork & shrimp wonton soup. more

Theater District Restaurants 2/18/2006

For the theatre crowd - fast service, reasonably priced, good Chinese food. Recommended. Pros: Reasonably priced, Fast service, Close to theatres Cons: Sometimes busy more

Fast service, average food 1/22/2006

This place is the tourist fav of chinese food in the city, the service was fast, but the taste of the food is average, too much starch used in dishes, and the flavors of different dishes are very similar, can't really tell the difference. Pros: fast service, friendly staff Cons: Average food, crowded more

Ollies 2/3/2005

Ollies in midtown is terrible. The food is average, but the service is awful. The staff is rude and inconsiderate. They dont answer any questions properly and make you feel rushed. I would not recommend this restaurant. more

My new fave place 9/17/2004

the place is crowded and LOUD, but the food is very good. they have various buns, which you can't find at most fast food joints and great authentic noodle soups. Pros: The food, Huge menu, Fast service more

Yummy!! 6/4/2004

I usually am a Chinese food snob -- no chain restaurants, but truly, the food here is delicious! The ol' standby General Zhou's is awesome, and the sauteed string beans are to die for! Pros: great food, good prices more

Unique Spare Ribs & Fantastic... 3/19/2004

...Scallion Pancakes. Their Spare Ribs are delicious, they are short little 2-inch ribs, but they are truly unique in that they taste as if they were marinated/basted in wine. Just delicious. I've eaten at Chinese Restaurants all over NYC my whole life (I grew up here) yet Ollie's is the first (the ONLY) that serves Spare Ribs that taste like this. And their Scallion Pancake with dipping sauce is INCREDIBLY delicious. Good texture to it too. Not too crispy/crunch and not soft either. Scallion Pancake Perfection. Oh, and their other dishes/meals are good too. Quite good. Pros: Unique, Delicious, Fast Service Cons: , Noisy, Wait 4 Table more

worst of the ollies 2/25/2004

There are quite a few ollies in Manhattan and this is by far the worst. The prices are higher and the food is worse. Find another ollies. Pros: Times Square area Cons: , Bad value, Bad service more

service sooo bad 2/14/2004

we celebrate my friend's birthday at Ollie's, food was ok but service was really really bad..... you would never imagine!!! our waiter wasn't friendly at all. I will never recommend this place. more

Tasty for Times Square 6/1/2003

Ollie's provides tasty and quick chinese dishes, with enough choices to please the pickiest eater (including vegetarians!). It's a popular pre-theatre spot, and is usually pretty crowded so don't expect a quiet place for two, but it is delicious and quick. With rotating discs on the center of the larger tables (allowing for you to share dishes), hanging ducks, and a cheerful decor it's definitely a place you should stop while visiting the Times Square area. I recommend the vegetable won tons and the sesame noodles, but you really can't go wrong with anything, and it's not overpriced. Pros: Inexpensive, Tasty, Variety Cons: Usually crowded, Cramped tables, Noisy more

Good pre-theater 12/18/2002

This place is good if you want a no frills no wait pre-theater dinner. The food is surprisingly good and comes out in about 5 minutes. The service leaves a lot to be desired, they are fast but not at all friendly. Our waitress kept zipping by our table and we barely got out our order before she ran away. We asked the hostess for a booth and she said they were for parties of 4 not 2, and then proceeded to seat a pair there not 10 minutes later. Overall - a good experience. more

great food but.. 8/7/2002

Ollies is a chain of chinese restauraunts in manhattan. The food portions are nice and the food is tasty but the servers are not the nicest people. Although they are not nice the service is fast and speedy. If you want good food fast, tasty and cheap Ollies is for you. If you want a slow relaxing meal it may not work in your favor. Pros: Price, Taste, Speed Cons: Servers, Crowded, Noisy more

Pleasantly Surprised! 7/23/2002

I have read many of the reviews stating ""poor this or poor that""! We were in a hurry to grab a quick bite to eat and decided to ""take a chance w/Ollie's"". All in our party were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food & service, including a very ""picky"" vegetarian friend! I wouldn't rate it as highly as many Chinatown places, but all in all, this is a great place right here in Midtown! Definitely would go back again and again! Pros: Food, Service, Staff Cons: A little tight, Small tables more

Cheap and delicious 5/29/2002

Great place to grab a quick, well priced bite of chinese food before or after a Broadway show. The service isn't great, but the food it good and authentic Pros: cheap, good food, fast Cons: atmosphere more
