Olive has some right tasty eats and good drinks, but it can be rather difficult getting a server to get you these. The server was nice enough, but not very attentive. The place is...

A Hidden Gem 5/18/2010

I simply love Olive. Living in the neighborhood, I am there a lot. The staff is so friendly and the service immeasurable. It's the ONLY place in the Loin to go if you want great food, drinks and service... all in one! The mushroom truffle pizza is like no other - literally - I have never had such a great pizza. I am also a staunch beer drinker but the staff has gotten me to try a couple of their latest concoctions... I have to say they were great (for a beer girl). Highly recommended! Pros: Great Food, Drinks & Prices Cons: Nada more

Martini Paradise 3/8/2010

After a lazy day in bed I decided it was time to head out for a night on the town. What better way is there to start off the night than with a grapefruit martini and spicy sausage pizza? ..... Yea, I can't think of any other way either. The sweet and tart vodka infused beverage hit the spot. At a reasonable price of $8, I was in heaven. Get there early to get a spot in one of the few booths. The place fills up quickly with other martini lovers. Pros: Grapefruit Martini Cons: Busy Spot more

Olive? 7/26/2008

I am not sure what this place is supposed to be. A bar? A lounge? A restaurant? But it sure is the only gringo place in a decidedly South East Asian neighborhood (aka Little Saigon). Whatever I ate was really good. Good place for a date or to meet mates. I will have to try it again for a better opinion. Pros: Food Cons: No parking but hey! This is what taxis are for. more

very friendly people and nice atmosphere 5/11/2008

I went to Olive one time in 07, was attracted by the name of the place and it was near to the place I was staying. Nice bar and simple yet wonderfully interesting menu. It is nice and clean, good music, comfortable atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff and owner. They all worked hard to please, more than expected. I will definately be going back this year. Thanks - 'Olive' - for going above and beyond expectations. Pros: great people, drinks and food Cons: none more

Great vibe, fun music and excellent mojitos! 4/30/2008

My friend and I went here after work and it's a perfect Happy Hour place with great music and a good looking crowd. The bartenders are knowledgable, friendly and they pour a great mojito! I would definitly go again. Didn't try the food but it looked pretty tasty so I will the next Thursday night out! Pros: Great Mojitos and Fun atmosphere! more

Great Service 1/19/2008

I went for an art show, and it was wonderful. Everyone in there was so nice and cool. Not too many people know about it so it is quiet. I love this place and I will be going back for sure! They have a great staff and everyone is so nice. I broke a glass and usually at other places I would have to go find someone to to help me pick it up, but someone came within seconds of the glass breaking, and no one got mad. This place is drama free and a wonderful place just to go chill and have dinner. Pros: Wonderful people Cons: none more

Oishii pizza 3/6/2007

Oh, I love the thin-crust pizza here! Try the mushroom and truffle oil pizza. And of course the Martini's with stuffed goat-cheese olives. Chill music in the background, nice booths. I had a crush on one of the bartenders for a while while i was single. I'm over that! But I still go there. Pros: happy hour, near great american musichall Cons: it's still the tenderloin more

Great pizzas 11/24/2006

Really cute place considering the neighborhood. I like it because it's never too crowded or noisy and you can actually have a conversation. The drinks and pizza specials during happy hour are a great deal. more

Good drinks 11/23/2006

The perfect place for every occasion: private parties, out with friends, entertaining visitors, or when you don't feel like cooking. Good happy-hour, dinner, and if you drink enough you can hang with the locals in the TL. more

Great Happy Hour 9/18/2006

They have great pizzas and incredible Mojitos and Martinis at a great price during happy hour. Neighborhood is not the nicest Pros: Happy Hour Cons: Neighborhood more

Watermelon Bar not Olive Bar 11/11/2005

Everything there tasted like watermelon beer, water, and the cocktails. more

good drinks, average food 9/19/2005

Olive is a nice little joint for a drink, and it's near the Great American Music Hall if you need to grab a bite before a show. But, the food is only so so, and in my opinion not worth the price. The calamari was breaded with something that was slightly sweet, and the squid itself was more mushy than firm. The tuna was overcooked. The creme brulee tasted fine, but the glaze was too thick. I'd try it again before not recommending it for dinner, but I'd definitely recommend it for a drink. It's a place where you can actually sit and chat with friends while having some yummy drinks and enjoying a nice vibe. Pros: drink menu, atmosphere Cons: so so food more

Perfect Drink Spot 7/14/2005

Used to live in Nob Hill and was at Olive several times a week after long days at the office. Olive has been the gem of the tenderloin bar scene since they opened. The bartenders are friendly, funny, and wonderful at what they do. The drinks are mixed to perfection, and the bar snacks are a huge step up from many other bard menus in this town. The stylish interior and great music make the place all-around great. Perfect place for a get-together or party. Get there early and take over one of the two front-corner booths. Pros: Great Mojitos, Great Bartenders, Ambience Cons: Parking more

The Best Martini in town 1/28/2005

Gil makes a mean martini and here's the secret: A little sprayer adds just a touch of vermouth and then to top it off, an olive stuffed with goat cheese. Yes, you heard me, goat cheese. You gotta try it. Also, the appetizers are scrumptious, especially the one with Brie and fruit. Atmosphere is really comfortable and there is no hipper than thou attitude goin' on down here. Don't be afraid of the Tenderloin, there are many jems there and this is one of 'em. more

Great all around 1/19/2005

C'mon now...the neigbhorhood is not pretty, but it's not unbearable. Apparently Mr. Marina doesn't get out that often. Ever been to the Mission? About the same scene. (and who walks to Olive from cow hollow?!?!) I've been to Olive several times, and it never disappoints. GREAT martini's. Love their pizza. Friendly service. It's the perfect spot to chill with a drink and have a light bite. Pros: martinis, pizza, people more

MARTINA & GILL ROCK! 7/13/2004

Hands of my favorite bars in SF! I just threw my birthday at Olive, and Martina and Gill were the best hosts ever! The food was awesome, the drinks were amazing, the atmosphere was electrifying, and the whole vibe was all good! I could not have picked a better spot to have it. Everybody had such a great time! I will definitely be back soon, and cannot wait to plan another party there again in the future. Thanks to Martina, Gill, and Sue for an incredible night! more

What a find 4/27/2004

Looking for some where to eat before a show at the great american music hall we find Olive. The staff were very nice the food tasted great and the drinks were good and strong what more could one ask for.We enjoyed it so much we came back after the show and will make Olive a regular stop. Pros: Nice people, Great food, Great drinks more

Basic training in basic manners needed 4/5/2004

I like Olive. It's a nice bar in an interesting location. Good drinks and food. However, twice - TWICE I have been literally chased down the sidewalk after I left by a waiter screaming that I had underpaid the bill. Both times the waiter realized she (1st time)/he (2nd) was wrong and that I had left enough money plus a generous amount for tip. Neither time did the waiter apologize. The second time he acted like it was my fault! I have noticed that the crowds I once fought through to get to the bar at Olive have dwindled. It's not the drinks, not the food - must be the service that is keeping people from returning... Pros: atmosphere, drinks, food Cons: , you of stealing, then not apologize more

Nice Place to grab a bite 3/25/2004

Amid a sea of bars in the area, this one is pretty unremarkable. However, the food kind of sets it apart. After reading the reviews here, I had to try the mushroom truffle pizza. It was pretty good. Got the fried calamari, very average (who breads calamari with breadcrumbs?) although the dipping sauce was excellent. The cheese plate was outstanding. Pros: food more

You have to try their chocolate martini! 3/16/2004

For a bar, their food is damn good. Loved the mushroom pizza with the truffle oil. Drinks - even better than the food. The chocolate martini makes a great dessert. It's a little small - maybe "intimate" is a better word - but I loved it! Best bar I have been to in a long time. Go there. Pros: good food, friendly service, chocolate martinis more

  • The Scene
From the outside, this hideaway looks like a wood cabin. Inside, there are no windows, but considering the less-than-scenic surroundings, it's a good thing. The overall vibe is fun, artsy lounge. Sultry music pours out of seakers, while candles and dim lamps illuminate the small, high-ceilinged space. Paintings of mostly olives dot the walls--including a simple, Warholian-like print over the bar.

    The Draw
Drinks are expertly prepared, like the chocolate martini, which is served with tasty shavings lining the rim. Rotating vodka infusions, like wheat grass-kiwi or mango-plum, are served with a wedge of fruit (which alone packs enough punch to get a lightweight loaded). Light fare includes tuna with wonton chips and a wild mushroom and truffle oil pizza.
