Call me crazy but I expect good service AND good meat 1/31/2009

We were hood winked by the maitre d' who proactively offered to move our seats away from a loud party of 20 people. We were very thankful and gave him a nice tip- seconds later they were moving our table to expand the party table. \r We both ordered the rib eye. One piece was really fatty and the other was tough. At another restaurant, I would say "" sometimes you get a bad cut"" but aren't we going to the Old Homestead and paying $41 for a piece of meat to guarantee a ""good cut"". The sides were really good (asparagus, mashed potatoes and mac&cheese). \r The waiters were very attentive to the large party of 20 while we were neglected. The final insult was when the waiter tossed the check on the table without a thank you. \r Would I go back? NO. Would I recommend the place? NO Are there better places for the same price with excellent service? YES\r Pros: the sides were good Cons: service and meat were BAD more

Don't Come 'Round Here No More 7/11/2002

This is/was the best bar in the city. Is it still open? It's been shuttered up for awhile, so I'm hoping that it's just closed for the summer. Eastern European to the core, this place reminds me of the dingy, poorly-lit dive bars that exist in the shady back-alleys of Moscow. You can get a HEALTHY dose of vodka for about $3.50 while you try to make out the picture on the rabbit-ears tv set on the dresser in the corner of the room. Snuggle up to the formicaed bar and chat with the Polish bar maid or take a shabby seat at a table. Don't be too kind to the people who look like they belong there (if you're reading this, you're not one of these people) or their girlfriends - just enjoy the cheap booze and be quietly and conservatively respectful of this shrine to post-Soviet alcoholism. Pros: Inexpensive, Divey, Ambience more
