I've always hated this bar, but when my best friend comes to town he forces me to come bc the women are fish in a barrel. Unfortunately, the staff really do think they are members of Barack Obama's security team, which makes being here ""not fun."" When I get here with my group of five people, including my gf, they split us up, allowing three of us to enter, and forcing my gf and I to stand outside in the cold. We stood outside for 15 minutes, waiting to get into this overcrowded, way noisy, bar full of 18 year old NYU ugly chicks with fake ID's. This bar has always sucked, but in recent years it has gotten worse (it seems to be intentionally geared to favor a socially inept crowd with its rude doormen and bartenders). Since the crowds are very large, there are myriad bouncers walking about with chips on their shoulders, just being generally mean and pushy with patrons. Even before you actually step foot in the bar--at the door--they try their hardest to put you in a bad mood. When I asked the doorman nicely if he could let me through with my gf so that we did not lose my out-of-town friends in a sea of people inside, he told me ""I'm cutting it off here...If you don't like it you can go somewhere else."" There was no reason why this guy could not let me stay with my party of friends. He did it simply bc he could. Even when I told him that I am a semi acquaintance with the owner(MB), he told me that he was going to make me stand in the cold longer for opening up my mouth. Then he told me to go ahead and call MB (his boss) and tell him that Alex (that was the doorman's name) is the ""A-hole who made you stand in the cold with your girlfriend."" The point here, really, is that I am sick of bouncers in NYC acting like NYC cops, or secret service members. And for the record, positive reviews written for this bar are obviously written by employees. Next time, I'm spitting down from the upper deck.
Pros: loose women and few real men
Cons: cocky staff
