Located in a ""pizza desert"" (no pizzerias for at least four blocks in any direction) Oasis Cafe really is an oasis of delicious pizza.

not so awesome. 8/23/2009

I've been to this establishment twice, in search of gluten-free pizza. Alas, both times they said the kitchen was closed for the night and couldn't fulfill my request. And they weren't the most polite or hospitable about it either. Hmm... thanks. So... being that I was hungry... grabbed a slice of their (1st time) sun-dried tomato, spinach, feta... the tomatoes were super chewy and way too tangy. (2nd time) had a slice of mushroom... the mushrooms were piled unevenly in the middle of the slice. Their crust is thick and fluffy, very yeasty. Not my favorite... but it's okay. Well... it would be okay if it was hot. But. No. Room temp (both times). Pulled out from under a heat lamp and put right on my plate. Anyway, to make a long story short, this place kinda s u c k s , but it's decent if you like over-priced, mediocre, fluffy crust, room temperature pizza. Hooray. You'll never see me there again. Go to Bella Faccia if you're craving awesome pizza. Pros: gluten-free pizza (though never got to try it) Cons: over-priced, mediocre pizza more

They made us feel like 3rd class customers 8/1/2009

1. The Lady at the counter was rude, with a very bad attitude. She made my friend, daughter and I, feel like a 3rd class customers..""even after she saw me leave a $5.00 tip. 2. Our sodas were flat. 3. We had to wait 45 minutes for our Pizza while there were New Customers coming and going. 4. To be honest, it was the worst experience that I ever had at a restaurant...""I used to be a Head Chef and my friend used to be a Chef too, So we dine out every week and we always leave a decent tip""......IS IT BECAUSE I USED A COUPON?? Pros: I thought that there were some..but I was wrong Cons: Everything more

Fantastic Gluten Free Pizza 12/31/2008

A few weeks ago I noticed a sign in the window at Oasis for gluten free pizza. I have never stopped in before because my kids are gluten intolerant and they are always with me when I go by the cafe on my way to Powells and Greggs. Finally stopped in this week and ordered a gluten free pizza for my kids. It was amazing- we did a half order of cheese and half sausage. Best gluten free pizza we have tried. Actually on par with some of the best regular pizza we have had as well. Price was reasonable too- any of us who have to buy gluten free know how expensive it is!\r \r Hopefully more folks start ordering it too they can start serving it by the slice (right now you can only get it as a whole pie). more

Best Turkey Sandwich in Portland 9/6/2008

Seriously. Get the hot turkey sandwich and you will be happily surprised. It is HUGE, great turkey, love the focia bread, special sauce, YUM!! I've had people tell me it is their favorite pizza place, but I still like the sandwich. Highly recommended. Pros: great food, cheap beer Cons: not much more

Good Not Great 3/1/2008

The sauce on the pizza is very good, but the cheese lacks flavor and the crust isn't very crispy. Definitely over priced for the quality. The cesear salad is, again, good not great. If you don't like the taste of Anchovies don't get the cesear dressing. The flavor is a bit overwhelming. Overall just OK and probably won't return. more

Decent Pizza - Don't order chicken 2/17/2008

The pizza at this place is pretty good. I've had the pepperoni slices at the restaurant, which were good, but when we ordered the 'bandito' pizza (for delivery), they were out of pulled pork and put chicken on it instead (our choice - but they didn't tell us it was all fatty thigh meat). The chicken is all thigh meat and is very fatty and gristly. Be aware of that and don't order anything with chicken, unless you like fatty thigh chicken meat. Cons: Very expensive for poor quality ingredients. more

Wow some of the best pizza. Expect the average entree to cost under $8. this was worth the drive over to south east. more

The Best Pizza Around! 7/7/2004

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Oasis Pizza! The sauce! The crust! The custom built slices! Their Greek salad is excellent, as well. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. More on the custom slices: they have a great selection of toppings. In addition to your run of the mill toppers, try roasted eggplant, cilantro, walnuts, pepperoncini, avocado, fresh basil, zucchini, roasted red pepper, roasted garlic, black beans and roasted red potatoes. My favorite combo is spinach, artichoke, and pineapple. Now, if they would just expand to Vancouver! Pros: Great Pizza!, Unusual Toppings!, Quick Service more

great stuff 5/20/2004

We've been going to the Oais for 10 years and have always been happy with the food and service. The pizza is great--esp. with the pesto sauce. Best salads in town. Great service--they are wonderful, helpful, quirky, and accomodating--and very funny! Any time, day--great place !! more

Good food, terrible service 2/14/2004

The pizza here is some of the best in the city. Their sodas are flat, and the service is available with a sneer or a cold shoulder. Don't expect them to work for a tip, but that tip jar sure is clearly marked and strategically placed. Pros: Excellent pizza, Good variety Cons: , poor service more

Best Pizza. Period 11/14/2002

After trying the recommended pizza joints, this is it. If you like artichokes, get 'em here. The feta-sundried combo is great, and the crust supports the flavors, but doesn't dominate. The service guy isn't too friendly, but not rude either. Pros: unique creations Cons: other menu items more

God, that cheese and that crust!! 10/9/2002

I am not a huge pizza fan, but since everyone else seems to be, I have tried all the pizza joints in Portland. I have found a couple that have made me now crave pizza and Oasis Cafe on Hawthorne is up there. They will even create your own preferred slice from scratch, so you can get hot out of the oven. Pros: Great Friendly Staff, Value for money more

good pizza 7/29/2002

Oasis Cafe is located in the Hawthorne shopping district, making it a convenient stop for lunch on your weekend. You can get pizza by the slice already made, by the slice custom, or by the whole pie. They also deliver. In addition to pizza, Oasis has a variety of pop, beer, and desserts. Some of the desserts are vegan. The only thing I do not recommend is their delivery. Both times I've had pizza delivered from Oasis, it has had all the cheese and toppings in a pile on one side of the pizza as if the pizza had had some rough handling on its way over. Pros: good location more
