Intimate and charming 5/9/2008

From the moment I called to book the appointment to the moment I reluctantly walked back up the stairs to Park Avenue, I was well taken care of. I had received a gift certificate for a massage and because of a special running was able to take advantage of a massage and a manicure. The massage was really terrific and could be habit forming; Paul, the masseuse, was communicative, responsive and made the experience very relaxing and fun. Jennifer did my manicure and I have to say, I'm thinking of wearing gloves everywhere since she did such a nice job I'm paranoid about wrecking my nails. She too made the experience so enjoyable. Finally, Bruce, the owner, came by to ask me if my services had been to my satisfaction - and that really impressed me. It spoke to how much they do care about the customer at Oasis. I'm totally looking forward to my next visit! Pros: intimate feel, very friendly and skilled staff Cons: stairs are tricky for people who can't get up and down them easily more

relaxed 4/29/2008

Came here earlier this month and had the 'Lunchtime Delight' package, a gift from Stan :-) The package includes: 30 min. Customized mini Facial 30 min. Swedish Massage I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm not a spa person, I have not been to many, so i dont have much to judge on but man, after coming here, I think ive gotten started on an expensive hobby bc I am already itching for my next massage. I don't remember what the names of the women who worked on me but they were both very sweet. The relaxation room had a good selection of: magazines, yummy dried fruits, nuts, and refreshing teas. You could also, relax in the sauna and shower after which was great. after leaving, I realized I spent over 2 hrs there, time flew more

Oasis Spa - Do Not Go 3/29/2008

Oasis Spa at One Park Ave has construction being done on the building which results in loud banging making the service unpleasant at best. Spa management does not feel it is necessary to inform spa goers in advance and offered me a whole $20 off a future service. Needless to say I will not be returning. Cons: Loud banging heard in massage rooms more

FANTASTIC MASSAGES. 2/29/2008

My husband and I have been here mostly for couples massages and the body scrubs which have been done separately-not as a couple). The massages are always really really fantastic. The body scrubs can be bit longer and you should have the options not to wear that ridiculous disposable panty (very uncomfortable) and I'm a 160lb woman. I always wanted to do the brazilian wax and will try that on my next go around.Couple of slight mentions: While the front desk staff is professional, I have (NEVER) gotten the really warm and welcoming feeling from them, but then I come for the technicians/services and not to spend a lot of time in the waiting room. One thing that would be great would be to have a few longer size robes and larger slippers (size 14) to accommodate my husband who is 6'5" and 275lbs. Rooms are always clean and smell great. The locker room is very clean and I'm a "Felix Unger". I will continue to visit Oasis and have always recommended the services to my family, friends and even my boss. Pros: Great techicians Cons: Front desk personnel-Price more

Best Spa Ever! 2/18/2008

I booked an appt here for my boyfriend and I for Valentine's Day and we loved it! The facility was very clean and the service was great. We were treated like king and queen for the day. We receieved the couples massage and both ended up falling asleep because it was so heavenly. I'd recommend this fabulous spa on Park Ave. Pros: massage, ambience, cleanliness, staff Cons: none! more

An underground cozy spa 1/6/2008

Went here three times over the past three years, with the latest time last week. It smells lovely, the staff is friendly, the amenities are great (snacks in the dressing room and waiting room, great spa products without the usual markup, nice toiletries). I've had hot stone massages and swedish massages here (one of the massages was with Kevin A.) and they are lovely. The massage staff really tailors the massage to what you want. The facials are lovely and include arm and neck massage. Extractions aren't the fun part of a facial, but they really do help. I liked the warming mitts that softened my hands while the facialist, Mickey, worked at making my skin glow. The spa products include more than one line, which I really like. (Dermalogica, GM Collin, etc.). I had seen this spot over time and they are very consistent in their approach. I also had a pedicure and manicure here and it was thorough and relaxing. Highly recommended for all. Beaware that you have to take steps down to get to the spa,in case you have accessibiliity issues. Pros: Greeat Location, Great Staff and Service Cons: Need to take stairs to spa more

Great treatments including prenatal 10/12/2007

I have visited Oasis numerous times over the past five years and have never been disappointed. I've had massages, facials and scrubs with various therapists and always had a great experience. I was very surprised to read some of the negative reviews as I am an avid spa goer and have been to over 30 different spas in the city and Oasis is one of my favorites! The relaxation room is calming, quiet and offers small treats and beverages. I never feel rushed (even if I'm the last appointment of the night) and the staff is always pleasant and attentive. I also like the fact that Oasis is not sales-y like other spas and doesn't make you feel like your sitting through a sales pitch during your treatment. Recently, I was pregnant and in desperate need of monthly prenatal massages. I started going to Oasis halfway through the pregnancy and continued until my due date. Nancy was a lifesaver. She was compassionate, open to feedback and truly expressed interest in my areas of concern, pressure, etc. She instinctively knew when I wanted to talk or simply drift away. I didn't feel like I was in a pregnant body when Nancy worked on me. I felt no pregnancy pressure and even managed to fall asleep -- very rare for anyone in their third trimester! Oasis is truly a spa worth visiting. I don't think any business (especially in NYC) can please all the people all the time but Oasis truly comes close. I've noticed the owner, Bruce, personally answers the negative reviews and encourages unhappy visitors to contact him. This is a testament of how he cares and wants to offer an exceptional spa experience to all of his clients. Many of the NYC spas are not privately owned but simply owned by a large corporation/board. Those spas could care less about their clients. You could visit every month for years and they wouldn't even notice you. Oasis offers exceptional service and treatments and is a tremendous asset to the spa and beauty industry. Pros: terrific treatments, attentive staff, pleasant environment more

Happy Birthday to me! 9/27/2007

I had a massage, mani and pedi for my birthday. The experience was very friendly and warm. I have had many massages before at some slightly upscale spas, usually with a mineral bath attached, and this experience stands out as a pleasant one. The waiting area is comfy with water and snacks and tea, although I did feel slightly awkward sitting there in my robe ( I arrived way early). I don't remember who I had for my massage, but she was great - it took me a little while to get back into my body afterwards, I was floating. The Asian woman who did my mani and pedi was really good and very friendly(we both love gardening) but also very professional. She did a fantastic job. I found overall the staff and atmosphere to be just right, and the establishment is aptly named; it is a little Oasis in the middle of Manhattan. I hope to be back, or at least return the favor to my husband! Pros: atmosphere, service more

Worst spa I've been to. Massage was very light despite request for a deep tissue. Staff was very rude as well. more

Nice couples massage 8/20/2007

I went here for a couple's massage. My bf never had a massage before so I wanted to bring him to one to relax. We just came back for a snowboarding trip and that was also his first snowboarding experience so I knew his body was going to be sore. I think this was a nice place for a couple's massage. He did not feel awkward at all. The only time he did feel weird a little was when we were in the waiting room. We seperated to go to changed and we met each other in the waiting room. I think he did look a little out of place because he is not a tiny man. He has broad shoulders so him sitting next to tiny me and some skinny women and men that usually go to spas was a little weird but no one paid attention to us so he was fine. When we met our masseuses they walked us to our room and left us alone so that we can get undress and lay on our seperate tables. The massage was ok. It is not the best ones I had but it was ok. My bf really enjoyed it though. I think it was a nice place for him to experience the world of massages and spas. They also have a couples massage that includes teaching you and your partner how to massage for more money. I did not go for that since I knew we were going to be too tired to massage each other after our snowboarding trip. Pros: very posh spa Cons: price more

An Island of peace and relaxation 8/8/2007

My skin is very sensitive, even temperamental, and although I've always been curious about having a facial, I was afraid that it might have a bad effect on me. A friend recommended Julie to me, and I'm glad that I took her advice. I've had two appointments with Julie so far, and both facials left my face feeling soft, smooth, and thoroughly cleansed. Julie is an expert esthetician and she is also a warm, caring person. My overall experience at Oasis has also been positive, thanks to the spa's comfortable, non-judgemental atmosphere. I'm seduced and can only strongly recommend the experience, Bravo ! more

Best Brazilians Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8/4/2007

I was a true Donna fan and was scared to death when she left. I didn't know what to do! Donna herself suggested Mickey!!!! She has been doing my brazilians for a while now and I just wanted to give her props for always doing such a great job. And most of all for always making me feel totally comfortable and making me leave with a smile every time. And get the "NO SCREAM CREAM" that stuff really works!! Mickey told me to try it and I did. It makes waxing soooooooooo much easier. Kudos Mickey!!! You make a difficult task almost enjoyable. My eyebrows look beautiful now also. Thanks to her. Pros: Quick waxing. Super Friendly!!!! Cons: none more

It was what it was.... :) 7/29/2007

After reading all of the reviews on City Search (and taking the good with the bad), I decided to pick this place for a well overdue spa session. I bought the "Oasis Signature Package" and my friend had the 90 minute stone massage. The massage and the sea scrub was amazing - both of the people I dealt with were extremely professional and courteous, and I loved every minute of my experiences with them. The facial I had was good, but the extractions were extremely painful - I have had extractions done by my dermotologist and I never felt like needles were stabbing my face before (my nasal area is still a bit sore)and that's how my extractions felt. (I also have a feeling that my facialist was chewing gum....but I am not sure as the smells could have also been the products she was using....) Then again, (while I have had massages and scrub treatments before) I had never had a facial done, so I don't know if that's normal depending on the condition of your skin. The person who did my facial was good though and didn't push me to purchase any of the products (though I plan to later on...), which was a definite plus. My friend also loved her hot stone massage, but every time she got close to being completely relaxed, the masseuse would drop a stone (eeek!). :) I would go back to this place - the prices were reasonable, and the overall experience was good. I had some quirks I didn't like, but it wasn't enough for me not to go back. Pros: Location Cons: None worth mentioning more

great spa! 6/28/2007

It was a very spacious spa, and I had an enjoyable and amazing massage! I also had a great facial and the waxing here is amazing!!! that lady really knows her stuff! I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who wants a great massage and a friendly staff. more

Excellent massage experience at oasis 6/21/2007

The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. I booked a swedish massage with Kevin A at the Park ave location...it was one of the most satisfying massages i've ever had. I've had many massages at many spas all over the city and i think i finally found my massage therapist!!!! The massage was very deep and cleansing and i felt amazing afterwards. He focused on the issues and put me back together. The following day there was some soreness but no other discomfort. I would definately go back to oasis again. THe locker room was stocked and clean, the staff was friendly, the massage was excellent. Overall a great experience. Thanks. more

Part II: Suggestions 5/3/2007

* I was double charged accidentally, which is VERY annoying. They are trying to fix that issue right now * The pictures make it look much bigger than it actually is -- the sauna in the men's lounge can fit maybe 3 men max! * Perhaps the green hydrotherapy towels should be used for massages instead, as that seems to be a consistent complaint (though I didn't personally have a problem with it) * The lobby can tend to be loud * I wore swim trunks for my Sea Scrub as the website suggested, but Hala asked me to change into the disposable wear -- which the site specifically says is for WOMEN. I didn't think there would be much difference, but they definitely are not built for men ... you are covered with a towel as well, but it was a bit awkward. Please get these to fit men or in larger sizes! I am a Size 32 Waist and it barely fit around me, much less in ... other areas. Also, if someone is going in for more than one treatment, more thought should go in scheduling the order. I don't think an oily massage really makes sense after a sea scrub that cleanses the skin. More time should also be allowed between treatments so that the sauna and relaxation room can be actually enjoyed. AGAIN, I'd like to reiterate that I had a great time at Oasis and would return -- these are simply things I noticed. Pros: See Part I... Cons: Double Charged, Disposable Wear more

Part I: Positives 5/3/2007

I went in for a Gentleman's Getaway (Sea Scrub, Meltdown Massage, Seaweed Facial) and added the Gentleman's Mani/Pedi as well. The facility is nice and clean. I did not feel that anything unsanitary or sub-par. Water/tea/dried fruit/nuts were plentiful, along with magazines and comfortable seating. The lockerroom was small, but again, very clean, and all the therapy rooms had a nice, simple ambience. Marietta's Facial was fantastic. She let me know what was going on at all times, and I felt very taken care of. Granted, I have nothing to compare it to, as it was my first facial -- but it was such an enjoyable experience and the results definitely show. I need no other proof. Irina was hilarious! Again, I'm not an aficionado of manicures and pedicures, but the results are great, there was no discomfort, and she was fun to talk to as well. She did seem to have the sniffles and a little cold, which was slightly off-putting, but it wasn't an issue I was overly concerned with. I enjoyed Max very much, though I wish he had pinpointed the areas I specified during the massage. I attribute this to the actual package, though, which included the Meltdown Massage, not a Deep Tissue, which is probably more of what I was wanting. The heating pads were nice, and I would definitely return to Max, but not for a Meltdown. I found the ending temple massage to be too light and too long; I was a little bit more bored than relaxed. The scrub with Hala was fine, although not a service I would necessarily return for. I felt I spent more time with the water heads than with the therapist, but that said, I didn't mind the treatment. Just wasn't my cup of tea. Overall, my day was quite relaxing! I must say that a lot of these reviews are harsh -- but one must consider the clientele. It does consist of many upscale New York City folk who perhaps have a higher expectation of a place like Oasis. Also, it is much easier to complain than compliment ... Please see Part II ... Pros: Facials, Therapists, Ambience Cons: See Part II ... more

Would Not Recommend 4/30/2007

I was here for a treatment the other day and was generally disappointed. The rooms are FREEZING and you are only covered with a small towel the entire time. I am not sure if this is because they dont like making the beds up, but I felt too exposed to enjoy the service. The massage beds were loud and creaky to the point that it was distracting and I even thought about the possibility of it collapsing. I understand that every experience can not be perfect and I probably would have come back after knowing what to keep in mind. However, the interaction with reception was awful. The manager on this site seems very concerned about customer service and I hope he reconsiders the reception as part of this experience. While i was paying over one hundred dollars for this servixce I thought it was fair to comment on how they could improve. The receptionist snapped at me and then left the desk mid-conversation. My interaction with this one particular womand was enough to ensure that I will never, ever go back or recommend this place to anyone. Their therapists seem good and I hope this spa can take these comments to heart, as they seem to be repeated many times on this site. Pros: Relaxation Room Cons: Customer Service more

thank you!!! 4/21/2007

I was walking around the trade show floor at the Javits Center during the Spa and Resort Expo. I came across the Oasis Day Spa chair massage booth. In a just a few minutes, I was seated in Phil K.'s massage chair. A massage therapist myself, I am rather particular about how I like my massages. Phil K. was fantastic. He shook out my arms and hands and worked pressure points along my hands and forearms that really relieved a lot of pain. He mentioned he was trained in Trigger Point work. I can tell! He applied deep pressure to my back which was so therapeutic and helpful. The scalp massage was the icing on the cake. It's unreal how much stress I carry in my neck near the occipital ridge. In just a 15 minute chair massage, Phil K. made such a difference. When I am back in New York, I am going to request him at Oasis. Pros: Everything Cons: None more

Soothing, clean, and an awesome massage 3/30/2007

I was relaxed the moment I walked in. The staff was friendly, the lockerroom and all of the facilities were spotless, and my hot stone massage with Kevin A. was unbelievable. I will absolutely become a regular! Pros: spotless facilities, awesome massage Cons: sauna is very small more
