Great Museum 9/8/2005

Oakland Museum of California is like a 3 level building with an additional area for special events. I've been here twice already and enjoyed both times I was there. The first visit they had a special showing of "The Lost City of China" where they had pictures, clothing, and items from the ancient Chinese dynasty. It truly was amazing to see such historic value show cased to the public for a small fee. They also supplied head sets that explained each show case which was great. You can wander off and don't have to stick with a group. The second visit was for school which I had to stay on one level at the museum. It was where they had the various animals and species around California. This is a place you have to visit if your ever in Oakland. more

Oakland Museum 8/17/2005

I have visited the museum countless times thorugh field trips when I was young. I remember that they had a gold mining event where children get to mine for actual gold. There are lots of things to see and various events held each month. It's also inexpenisve so it's a great place to take kids to. more

Not worth a special visit 8/17/2005

The Oakland Museum is a museum on California with exhibits on art, nature, and anything from cars to traffic. The museum has a little bit of everything and is a great place to spend a bit of time if you’re in Oakland. The museum also features a restaurant and spaces for special exhibits. more

Discover California and its History 8/14/2005

The Oakland Museum of California is basically several museums rolled into one-- an art museum, a history museum, and a natural sciences museum. As a kid I used to visit this museum quite often, but over the years the visits have become less frequent. I still enjoy the experience of looking at familiar sights, like the Natural Science exhibits, which feature various California animals statically posed in a mockup of their natural environments enclosed in clear display cases. A neat feature is that on some of these animal exhibits, there are buttons that people can press to listen to the sounds the featured animal makes. The California history exhibits provide a comprehensive coverage of the state's rich history in the Gold Rush era, its rise in the entertainment industry, etc. Well worth the price of admission. more

Very fun 8/13/2005

I remember as a kid when I went here for field trips and it was a very fun place to go. I remember they had the Egypt displays of mummys and tombstones. The place is very clean and infomative. It a pretty big place to go and look at things. One of my favorite thing was the Gold Rush dsplay. They dedicated the whole museum for the gold rush and we had hand on hand experience which gold digging. Very very fun experience. more

Learn more about our state 6/22/2005

A fun and interesting way to learn a bit more about California. Most interesting if you actually live here. They have a few rotating exchibits, so there's always something new. Plus they have special events like night time visiting hours. The coolest is an annual Fungus Festival. You'll learn more about mushrooms (including which to eat and which not to) then you ever thought you could... more
