The Oakland Museum of California is basically several museums rolled into one-- an art museum, a history museum, and a natural sciences museum. As a kid I used to visit this museum quite often, but over the years the visits have become less frequent. I still enjoy the experience of looking at familiar sights, like the Natural Science exhibits, which feature various California animals statically posed in a mockup of their natural environments enclosed in clear display cases. A neat feature is that on some of these animal exhibits, there are buttons that people can press to listen to the sounds the featured animal makes. The California history exhibits provide a comprehensive coverage of the state's rich history in the Gold Rush era, its rise in the entertainment industry, etc. Well worth the price of admission.
