Beware!! 10/19/2008

I understand its a great view because it is! But lets talk about the restaurant its awful! About 80% of food that is served is touched by dirty hands, cooks pick off the food straight from the plate, Chicken is microwaved. This place is not all what it seems to be take my advise pass this place up!!! Pros: The View Cons: The Food more

Absolutely horrible food and service 7/25/2007

The only thing good about this place is the view. The service was horrid- waited around for 15 minutes before anyone bothered to show up to take our drink order - the folks around me were complaining as well. Their food is way overpriced - who charges $18 for a cobb salad? This is a beach restaurant! The food is awful- just like the previous reviewer mentioned and to make things worse I practically had to beg for my check but I had a problem finding my server who disappeared for 20 minutes. Go to Castaways. You'll have a much better time, better service and good food. Pros: The View Cons: Poor service, overpriced, horrible food more

A complete trash hole joke of a restaurant 6/16/2007

Look, we get it: the view is so breathtaking it. But I enjoy LSD whiling driving. And though the idea of eating on the lake seems like a good idea, what would make it complete would be edible food served to be by a human being.

Our waitress could not have cared less. When asked what came with our fish she said, "Uh ... grilled vegetables." What we got was a few mixed greens, aka lettuce. She had no idea the difference. Unreal. And the food was really so-so. I got a 3-oz. filet of mediocre salmon with some store-bought BBQ sauce slapped on at the end. Really poor. That cost me $22, no kidding. No veggie, no starch. Tiny piece of so-so fish.

The drinks were semi-tasty; at $9-11, they had better be. They certainly weren't big. And homegirl never asked if we wanted another drink until after we asked for the check. She actually made me angry with her service, and that's tough to do. First time I have not tipped 20 percent since I moved here in 2002.

I am telling you guys, if you want good food, pack a lunch yourself and walk the beach. Do not, I beg you, eat their food. The only thing I could be conned into doing is drinking one of their beers. How do you screw that up? I better not ask. I bet they could find a way. Really bad stuff. Pros: View Cons: Everything else, really more

WRONG LOCATION 1/13/2007

As of January 14, 2007, Citysearch has the wrong location for this establishment. It is actually located by the Drake Hotel in downtown Chicago at 1001 N. Lake Shore Drive more

Great Location, Lackluster Food 8/11/2006

I dined here recently with several friends for lunch. The food is expensive and is below average for the price. Our waiter could have cared less in serving us although he was adorned with pins about the value of tipping and liking tips. I was surprised that he never offered us refills on our beverages and when the desserts we selected were not available, he didn't seem to care. The location is great, so if you are just looking for a great place to have a beer, then go. But if you really do not want to pay $17 for quesadillas or a nicoise salad that have no taste, then stay away. Pros: Great Location Cons: Expensive, tasteless food, poor service more

Great location; below-par food 7/1/2006

I enjoyed the view and ambience at this lakeside restaurant, but the food wasn't good enough, considering all the GREAT places to eat in Chicago. My friend's hamburger ($14.95) was dry and overcooked (he asked for medium). My "quesadeas" were made with cheddar -- ich! The waitperson was attentive, but didn't bring the food as ordered. The bus "boys" hung around yakking, and didn't respond to our pleas for a cloth when a drink was spilled. Had to leave the table to get their attention. Pros: Great ambience Cons: Poorly executed food more

A Table With a View 5/21/2004

Beachstro is the ultimate in outdoor dining. With their own palm trees, a great view of the beach and the skyline, it doesn't get better. My wife and I sipped on our Pina Coladas while the kids played on the sand. My wife loved the Chicken Marsala and my grilled Halibut was done perfectly. A kids menu is available and has the favorites. Great Carrot cake and our foreign exchange student/server was great to talk to. I recommend this little Oasis at Chicago's lakefront for any day or night of summertime fun. Pros: Incredible view, Large portions, Cool palm trees Cons: , Closed when raining more

Oak Street Beachstro 6/20/2003

The restaurant is worth going to for the view of the lake and the boats. The food is overpriced and the service is fair. The waiter never brought us any bread. Another server did it. I ordered my cob salad with less cheese and no bacon. It was brought with less cheese and bacon and no salad dressing. Since our waiter was nowhere to be found another server brought us salad dressing. The cob salad was tasty once I got my dressing. The drinks are overpriced as well. Pros: View of Lake, Eating outside Cons: Poor service, Food overpriced more

A rarity on the Lake 8/28/2002

We don't have many dining options on the Lake so, considering, this restaurant is very much appreciated. It's a great place to go on a sunny afternoon and watch the waves lap onto the beach while wolfing down a slab of surprisingly tasty ribs. They have good sandwiches too. more
