Great brunch! 8/4/2008

My boyfriend and I love this place. We walk there for brunch on the weekends and have never had to wait more than 3 minutes for a table. The food is great and they have lots of healthy options. It can sometimes be understaffed andthe waitstaff seem a bit frazzled, but your food comes out quickly and hot. The coffee cake made by Ally (a waitress there) is delicious. I don't recommend the iced coffee...stick with hot. Pros: food, location, prompt service Cons: can be a bit warm inside more

OP, a welcoming staff and great food...what more could you want?! 3/7/2008

Everything I've ever ordered has been just great! The chef has a bit of imagination and comes up with some great specials too! After a few visits, the staff (all except one, but I think she's being forced to work least that's HER attitude???) remember your favorite things and offer to bring them, asap! We always feel very welcome and almost like going to a friend's place, the way we are treated.\r \r Oh...and you really have to try some of the fresh baked goods! If you don't leave room to have them there, take them to go & enjoy at home!\r \r We'll be regulars forever! Pros: Super staff that makes it easy to enjoy your meal Cons: Hope that you don't get the sourfaced server! more

Fresh Squeezed? Not in my opinion... 4/19/2007

I went for breakfast and ordered a large ""fresh squeezed orange juice"" for $3.50. The waiter went to the fridge, took out a gallon jug of orange juice and poured me a glass. Maybe I'm just silly, but to me, ""fresh squeezed orange juice"" means they have a juicer and they make the juice right then, right there. I asked an employee about this, and she told me that the juice is delivered to the restaurant every morning. She pointed out that it says ""fresh squeezed"" right on the label of the gallon jug.\r \r I looked up the juice maker (Perricone) on the web, and it does seem like a good quality juice. Perricone states on their website, ""most juice goes from plant to store within two days."" That's probably a lot faster than most bottled juice gets to the table, but in my book, it isn't fresh squeezed. I can't say anything about the quality of the food or the service, because I just left. more

good breakfast place! 12/10/2006

The food is actually very good, but they're sort of clueless about vegetarian alternatives. If you ask for vegetarian sausage or veggie bacon, they look at you like you asked for a gorilla burrito. It was uncomfortable because the restaurant is close to Santa Monica and West L.A. and not stuck in the middle of Nebraska, so I didn't quite understand the incredulous looks when I asked for veggie bacon.\r \r They also have weird rules that end up costing a lot of money when you ask for substitutes. I think they charge two dollars extra if you ask for tomatoes instead of toast, and there's something else really weird about getting sausage or something with your meal but I can't remember what it was...I blocked it out it was so odd, I remember that! \r \r All in all, I'd recommend them because the food is really quite good, and they're nice people who run the restaurant and the service is pretty good. They just need to get with the program that it's not the 1950's anymore, and we're not in Kansas. Pros: good food. Chef seems to be better than most for breakfast Cons: need to offer vegetarian alternatives like veggie bacon and sausage more

The Best House Salad in Town and Great Service!!!!! 9/2/2006

I love coming to OP Cafe when I want a good salad for lunch. They are extremely friendly, have the best drink mixes, like peach iced tea and lemonade, and again, the salads are amazing. I am really hooked on the tuna panini!!!!!! Julia Roberts was there the same day I came in for lunch. One of my favorite SM spots. more

AWESOME Breakfast Burrito! 6/14/2006

This place has been remodeled and serves a totally different type of food than it did a few months ago. Terrific breakfast place! Try their applewood sausage, waffles, and omelettes. I've already become a regular, as most of their clientele are. Looks like a dive from outside, but that's ok because it's keeping the Santa Monica rif-raf out:) Pros: Food is Excellent, Staff is GREAT, Parking could be tough. Cons: Not big enough, not open early enough or long enough. more

Cheap and good 11/5/2005

If these are your requirements for a ""regular"" breakfast place--they're mine--then Ocean Park Cafe may be the place for you. It's tiny, and it's definitely a ""greasy spoon"" type of diner/coffee shop. Still, the food has creative touches as well as traditional favorites. I loved the pecan pancakes, and will be back for a return visit. more

Best French toast in town 8/8/2002

This place has french toast about 6 inches. thick made with cinammon and walnuts. Also, the omelettes are awesome. My favorites are the Ole and the Santa Monica. Overall the food is great and its not to greasy, like a lot of other breakfast joints. Pros: Great food, Good Service, cheap Cons: sometimes crowded, parking more
