Editorial review from Citysearch 4/26/2013

hi there. \r i went into the animal hospital. as always the staff was very friendly and accommodating.\r my concern is..\r \r after having done some prior research regarding circumstances and symptoms of my dog.. i went into the clinic and addressed the doctor with my concerns and accumulated google knowledge on the matter.\r my dog was recently bitten by a mosquito and has been exhibiting signs of heartworm.. diarrhea, coughing/wheezing, hair loss patches.\r i researched the accuracy of testing in the first few weeks.\r google mentioned several times that heartworm detection early on is slim and that 'false negatives' happen quite frequently.\r dr vasquez repeatedly rebuked me and said the test if assured and there is no such thing.\r i repeated my claim a couple times to see if i would get some understanding/knowledge or at least the name of a reference specialist doctor from him. he insisted that i was wrong and my claims were quickly dismissed; as was my dogs issues.\r while he was obliging enough to give me a copy of the brand of test, his knowledge of the subject was limited to a narrow spectrum and close minded.\r this was disappointing and i will persist on more research somewhere else if the symptoms indeed persist. \r tho doctors are helpful, as owners we are more apt to notice and recognize symptoms.. for we are more familiar with the dogs issues than a quick clinical assessment.\r otherwise the clinic is affordable, accommodating and friendly.\r this was and is, however, my concern.. \r obviously the health of my dog..\r and the spectrum of reference.\r I plan on taking 'the girls' back to the clinic. overall we had a relatively inexpensive and positive visit. \r hoping that the doctor's assurance of the accuracy of the ten minute Wisdom heartworm test is correct \r and the numerous reports online of its inaccuracy during early stages is mistaken.\r \r want the best for my babies,\r concerned mom of two\r more

My New Vet 2/19/2009

I was looking for a new vet and my friend told me about his vet which he's been taking them for over 25 years because not only the doctors are very good, but their very accurate and very very reasonable. After spending few thousand of dollars on a simple UTI problem on my one cat, I was totally broke but my other cat got cancer and he really needed an immediate treatment. So I drove all the way from South Bay (a 40 mile round trip) to see them. My friend highly recommended the Senior doctor, but a younger doctor examined my cat (they're father and son). Although it was a quick in and out, he listened to what I had to say and immediately took my cat to do a blo*d test. I took both of my cats and both received total of four medications. With a test, the bill came out incredibly low. He called me the next day with a result and asked me to come back the following week. I couldn't go that day so I went a few days later and this time the senior Dr. examined my cats. I learned he was all by himself that day and it was really busy. Honestly, I tried to take my friend's words and believe he's good as his son, but I felt the exam was a bit too rushed and I'm sorry to say but I had a hard time understanding him. Two days after that, my cat's cancer symptom got worse so I called and asked if the younger doctor could see my cat. They told me because he had to go in to a surgery he'd be done by 11:30, but with my situation and location, he would see me as long as I could come by 12. When I got there, the girl said she has already put the file out for my cat and although there were many people waiting again, they took us in immediately. The news was not a good one and I became very emotional. Dr. Vasquez was very understanding and patient with me. He did give him more meds, IV and a shot but he only charged me for a bottle of pill. I am very grateful for them and I will keep driving the 40 miles gladly for my four-legged children. Pros: very reasonable, great and understanding doctor, with so many people waiting, how can this place be bad? Cons: no appointment so you migh have to wait for over an hour more

HORRIBLE !!!!!!! 2/12/2009

I want to make it clear that I give this place a NEGATIVE ZERO star rating, but this site wont allow such a thing. Cons: many more

Wow, I would recommend this place. 3/6/2008

Wow, this place is so busy. It must be that good to be that crowded. I've never been to any other vet with such client loyalty. I came in to have my cat spayed and have her shots given. Eveything went smoothly and quickly with the staff here. The young vet that I met with answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable leaving my baby here. It's been two weeks after the surgery and my cat is doing fine. I only wish they took appointment so the wait would not be so long. Wow, I would recommend this place. Pros: Fast, clean, competent Cons: crowded more

Great Vets and beautiful facilities!! 6/27/2007

Drove all the way from Torrance to come to this beautiful animal hospital. To my understanding, the facility had a fire and now they completely renovated the place. It was well worth the drive. The receptionists and techs are very friendly and Dr. Vasquez is the BEST!!! My dog was having trouble urinating and I went to ANOTHER vet first who diagnosed it with a bladder infection....WRONG!! Dr. Vasquez took an X-ray and I even saw the huge bladder stones on the X-ray. Without me needing to take a bank loan to pay the bill, he did a major bladder surgery . Two weeks later, my dog is using the restroom fine. I am thankful for such a place that cares more about the well being of the pet than trying to get as much money as possible. The only draw back is that it gets very crowded and they don't take any appointments. It is amazing that their are SOOOO many patients that come see him. Well, he is that good. Pros: Great Vets and beautiful place!! Cons: CROWDED more

A rare breed .....[no pun intended] 10/9/2006

Best Vet in town! 10/3/2006

We recently moved out of Highland Park to the Westside near Palms. Our experience there with the local veterinarians was horrible! WAY too expensive and over diagnosed, unnecessary treatments, etc. Now I GLADLY make the 20 mile + drive back to Highland Park and Dr. V whenever any of our animals has a problem. I would drive TWICE that distance for the level of service and care that Dr V and his staff offer!!! Pros: Everything - clean, friendly, courteous Cons: Can be crowded, but thats because it is so popular! more

He is too fast when seeing the animals but... 8/23/2006

I went there after I had heard how good his prices are and how great he was from a friend. I brought 2 of my dogs there. And after I was actually in the room with the doctor, I was out in less than 5 mintues. I felt very rushed. He ran his hands over my new puppy and said, ""She's healthy"", and then charged me $15 for it. For a normal check up, I think he's good but I wouldn't go to him if my dog had serious problems. Pros: walk ins, price Cons: felt rushed more

Very affordable 8/15/2006

I don't know that I would say that Dr. Vasquez and his son are the best vets around--they are certainly polite and remember my dog's name each time I come in. However, they work very quickly--perhaps a bit too quickly. So far, we haven't had any problems, but I'm not sure they take enough time to accurately assess each problem. I continue to go, however, because they're not bad, and the prices really are very reasonable. Pros: Prices, parking lot, nice staff Cons: No appointments, too busy, doctors work VERY quickly more
