NorthStar Moving Company

After reading bunch of great reviews on Northstar Moving, I decided to hire them despite getting a few other recommendations for other moving companies from friends. It was one of those do I trust numerous reviews on Internet or go with single instances of good experiences by friends. I decided to trust the internet and went with Northstar and I don't have any regrets. Spoke with Wendy 5 days before the move and she quoted me an hourly rate based on how many guys she though I would need. She told me the guys would be at my apartment between 8am and 10am. 4 guys lead by Joel showed up at 8am on the dot the day of. Had my old apartment packed into the truck in 3 hours. It was amazing how quickly yet carefully they took all my staff away. And it only took them 1 hour to put all my staff in my new place. They performed well beyond my expectation. Five stars! I just finished my second move with Northstar. The first was a move from Westlake Village to San Francisco 3 years ago. Nick and his crew were great on the pack and load. They went out of their way to really be careful not only with my furniture and belongings but also the house I was moving out of. They even figured out a way to move a refrigerator that wouldn't fit through the doorway. They were equally professional and careful on the unload in San Francisco. I didn't even think of calling another company on the move back down to Pasadena. By luck of the draw, Nick again was the crew boss on the unload here in Pasadena. Again, he and his crew were great - professional, careful with everything and fast. I like that when I called the office that I always got a live person who was usually able to help me on the spot or had someone call me back within minutes. Very responsive and I really do think they try to make the stressful moving process easier for the customer. Last but not least, the prices were very competitive and their services were well worth the cost. My room mate and I were moving from one apartment to two different locations. We identified who's boxes and furniture were who's with different colored artist's tape. (The tape used to mark the floor and stuff on TV sets) The guys were awesome, fast, professional and knew exactly what they were doing. You could tell they had this down to a science. Our kitchen was too small for the refrigerator to fit through the door and they had to lift it over the counters to get it out. That didn't even slow them down! It took about 30 seconds for the fridge to get out of our kitchen it was amazing. I have a huge 4 foot by 6 foot painting that arrived in perfect condition also! Nothing arrived at the wrong destination even though we were moving from one place to two separate places. They were very gentle with all the boxes going up and down stairs. Speaking of stairs, we had 3 flights up and 3 flights down on our move. That is a lot of stairs! These guys still just whipped through moving all our stuff and barely looked winded. Amazing. I was recommended to use Northstar for my move within Los Angeles. The 3 movers that came were efficient, courteous, and extremely helpful. Jesus Meza (Foreman), David Carillo, and Jose Sosa were extremely professional and got my entire move done within 4 hours. I would highly recommend using this company again. We used NorthStar to move from CA to NC after seeing their A+ BBB rating. They damaged almost all our furniture and taped some of it together to try to hide it. The driver told us he was noting damage we noticed on the bill of lading and it turned out he hadn't. He tried to rush the whole process and get out of there ASAP. BE AWARE: DO NOT SIGN THE BILL OF LADING OR LET THE DRIVERS LEAVE UNTIL YOU HAVE EXAMINED EVERY ITEM THEY MOVED! If you don't note damage on the bill of lading both the movers and any insurance company you used will refuse to pay for it. (NorthStar recommended movnginsurance dot com, which we used and who were horrible and refused to pay for anything.) How is it possible to inspect everything when you have an entire houseful of stuff that you are moving and the driver is saying he has to leave because he has five other deliveries to make? That's not their problem. It's your problem if anything turns out to be damaged. These people are horrible and they cost us a fortune. Pros: Hit target arrival date Cons: Everything else more

Thanks to everyone who recommended NorthStar on this site, I picked them to help with my move yesterday. I've moved houses 3 times in the past 10 years and by far, NorthStar is THE BEST MOVING COMPANY I've ever dealt with! They are incredibly prompt, fast, courteous, neat, professional and CAREFUL. Everything you could ask from a moving company. The foreman they sent to my house is named "Nick" and he was amazing. They also sent 4 other guys and they finished everything so quickly (I moved into a 3,000 sf house and I have 3 kids!) that the price came in UNDER BUDGET! It's hard to find any company, let alone a moving company, that's this good and honest! Another word of advice ... DO NOT go with the cheapest company ... you will be sorry. They always tack on lots of fees to bring their price back up. NorthStar was very upfront about any additional charges (gas charge, etc.) so I knew exactly what I was paying ahead of time. Robert and his team moved me on Saturday, in West Hollywood. Northstar was able to accommodate my timeframe with only a few days notice. Robert and his team arrived on time, and were incredibly professional. They packed my whole place, and set everything up in the new location perfectly. Best move I've ever experienced. When my mother decided to move from Northern California to Southern California, I decided to use Northstar Movers. I had moved earlier from San Francisco and had great service from them. As with my previous move, Northstar sent a great team of workers. Jesus and his crew carefully wrapped my mothers furniture and possessions. When they arrived with her items, I was happy to see that Jesus and his crew were going to unload her things. It had just rained very hard and they took extra measures to insure that not only were her items moved in carefully but also that her floors were protected as they walked through her new home. Anyone who is looking for good people who care about your belongings should definitely consider Northstar Movers. My mother and I truly appreciate their extra efforts and professional know how! My husband and I recently moved from an apartment to a house. Over the time we had gradually moved lots of stuff over ourselves. Then we were looking at the rest of furniture and realized that we had to hire a moving company. After reading the good reviews on Citysearch, we called Northstar. The service people on the phone told us that since we didn't have lots of stuff, we can do it by hour and gave us a very good weekday hour rate for a three-man moving crew. We then booked a moving time and evaluation appointment with them. I got confirmation email on the same day. Then the evaluation guy showed up the next day. He looked around, made notes, and told us it won't be more than $500. I soon got another detailed email to confirm this evaluation. On the moving day, three guys came on time. They were very polite, quick, quiet, and totally gentle with our furniture. They were not taking their time because we were charged by hours. To my surprise, they finished everything in half of the time that we expected. We ended up paying only a bit more than $300. We paid in credit card and got clearly print-out official invoice and receipts from the guy. A couple of days after moving, I got a follow-up call from Northstar asking whether the guys were doing a good job, etc. I must say, the whole experience with this company is fantastic. Moving is such a stressful thing, but hiring Northstar made it basically painless for me this time. I'd highly recommend their service to anyone. more

Excellent. Would unhesitatingly use them again. This weekend I moved a 1BR from Westwood to Santa Monica. I was nervous because it was my first time using a professional moving company, as opposed to friends/family and a UHaul: I was worried the crew would be taking breaks every 30 minutes on my dime. I was nervous they were sending three guys for what appeared to be a two guy job- but after calling around different companies, 3 men seems to be the standard. I recommend them very highly and will definitely use them next time I move. The move was done quickly and professionally. I got a call from Guy the foreman the day before the move confirming the details. The next day, Guy and his crew of Angel and Ramiro called at 830AM saying they were outside. From then on through completion at 1115AM, the process was quick and efficient. All three took no breaks and were always working. General numbers for those looking for a benchmark: A 1BR from Westwood to Santa Monica in under 3 hours. At $115/hour plus double drive time, it ran me $380 not including tip. 3 hours might be a little short because I had moved the kitchen equipment and clothing myself in my car the night before. On the other hand, maybe 3 hours is a little long: these guys negotiated three flights of narrow spiral stairs with heavy furniture. Great job Guy, Angel and Ramiro! I am so glad that I chose this company. I was amazed by how downright fun my moving day was thanks to the crew from Northstar. These guys are truly the best! They gave me an arrival window of 8-10 am, which, as we all know, for a lot of companies means anywhere between 9:50 and 10:20. To my absolute delight and relief, they pulled up at 8:15 and cheerfully plunged into a what was to be a long day of hard work of them, moving me from my home in Bel Air to Encino. And watching them work was nothing less than a joy. Guy, the foreman, helped my moving-day anxiety by making jokes, all the while working steadily without wasing a moment's time. The entire crew were diligent, efficient, organized, and extremely professional. As a team, they had it down to both a science and an art. Guy led his crew with a respect towards them that was evident and they responded by following most of his directions before they were even fully expressed. E It was truly a pleasure to watch these GENTLEMEN work as they packed, loaded and then unloaded my family's belongings. A good 9 hours into their job, they indulged my desire to protect my brand new hardwood floors by holding each and every piece of furniture sideways as they removed it from the truck while I stuck 4 to 6 little floor-protecting stickers on them. I believe it took a lot of grace and professionalism on their part not to roll their eyes, sigh impatiently, or otherwise express their impatience, but their professionalism never waivered. I noticed later that a few pieces of furniture I had somehow missed also had the stickers on them, which tells me that the men placed them there on their own. I found that to be the most impressive gesture of all. I wish I could remember the names of all the crew members as I would have loved to give them credit by name. Each and every one of them deserves it, and the company should be very proud of the fine workers they employ. They finally left my new home at 11:00 pm that night, and were as friendly and polite and upbeat as they had been at 8:15 that morning. I read everyone else's reviews before I wrote mine, and of course it's a shame that 4 or 5 people had such poor experiences. One reviewer implied that some of the good reviews were not authentic because the reviewers had never reviewed any businesses before. I am one of those who has never reviewed, but the reason I am reviewing Northstar is because they asked me to do so, as I'm sure they ask all their customers, because they truly want feedback so that they can improve, and probably because they know that, for the most part, they do a more than decent job and want acknowledgment for it. A lot of companies probably don't want to know what you think of them, and with good reason. I had low expectations for my moving day because I am generally hard to please in most respects, and I couldn't imagine that a moving company would be anything but an aggravation. This crew was a phenomenally wonderful surprise. Yes, they definitely make a huge profit on their packing materials, but they are up front about those prices, and you can easily avoid that expense by doing it yourself, and their labor cost is more than reasonable. They were my least expensive bid out of 8 companies, even with the extra that I paid at the end for packaging supplies. I would use these guys again in a heartbeat and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. And did I mention that NOTHING, not paintings, nor china, nor glassware, nor furniture, not even my kids' arts-and-crafts projects were damaged during the move? What more could one say? I was helping a good friend during her move about 6 months ago, kind of helping her cope with the insanity of the day, and while doing that I also observed her movers at work. They were impressive: very efficient, knew what they were doing and even managed to take apart – and more impressive to me – put together a very odd shaped desk she’s had for years and refuses to throw away. I asked to get a card from them and gave them a call when I had to me this past Sunday. My move was small, and I was glad they gave me a repeat of their great performance and finished early enough for me to spend the rest of the day arranging my new place. more
