Best

They have an awesome bakery. I got a girl some cupcakes from here and it got me laid. I highly recommend it!

Worst

We have been to Normandie Cafe twice, once for brunch with family and once for a business breakfast. The food was okay but the biggest issue was how long it took to get our break...

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/9/2012

We are regulars at the Normandy, and have enjoyed our visits for years. Recently, we note some absences from the desert menu, but more importantly, some deterioration in the outdoors upkeep. The flowerbeds need weeding, the grass is almost choked with weeds, and the parking strip trees have unwanted growth along the lower part of their trunks. So why the deterioration? more

Don't go to Normandie to eat...just get the baked goods and get out. You'll never find a better mint brownie, however. more

Oh my what a mess! 4/11/2012

Do not go here unless you have 2 hours for lunch. Went at 10:15 AM on a weekday. Only one other table was occupied. Ordered our brunch, 2 omelets, 2 coffees. 10 minutes after paying the coffee arrived. Yay, breakfast can't be far behind.....Another 20 minutes passed and I asked the girl behind the counter to please check on our order....Well, 2 empty coffee cups and another 10 minutes (now 40 minutes at our table) our food arrived. The omelets were excellent...the potatoes were so soggy you couldn't pick them up with a fork! The cantelope was so hard we couldn't cut it! We left without tipping, which I never have done before but it seemed like I would be adding insult to injury at this point...Won't see me there again. After reading the other comments, it seems that the owners don't care too much about improving service. This is the second time I have gone here in the last 2 weeks. Silly me, thought I would give it another chance. Fool me once, shame on you, Fool me twice, shame on me. more

Takes forever to get food 12/13/2011

We have been to Normandie Cafe twice, once for brunch with family and once for a business breakfast. The food was okay but the biggest issue was how long it took to get our breakfast orders. How long can it really take to make scrambled eggs and toast? Don't try to go there for a business lunch unless you have tons of time.....like an hour and a half. The reason for the delay was not seemingly related to the number of guests as inluding us, there were only 3 or 4 tables filled. more

Couldn't even get service 5/24/2011

This has got to be the worst service I've ever received. I went in around noon for lunch, the place was not that busy. The waitress tells me to stand in line at the counter to order food. I do, and it was the absolute slowest moving line ever (and there were only three people in front on me). I think the guy taking orders left the counter a few times to god knows where. After 15 minutes of waiting, I am finally up to the front when this group of 8 walks up to the counter. The order-taker says ""oh just a minute, let me get to them and I'll be right with you."" Seriously?\r I'd also like to mention that I am in the middle of work on my lunch hour (which is only 30 min) and now I have just wasted most of it standing in line. ARGH. I will never go back. Also, three of my co-workers also said they could never get a table. How crappy. more

bad food, bad service, overpriced 5/10/2011

The food is bad and overpriced but the service is the worst. They are rude and on top of that the 20% gratuity is already included. I assume since this is the case, they could care less about the kind of service they provide. They forgot to bring our desserts and one of my guestsmain dish, when they finally realized, they brought him the wrond dish. The worst experience. more

Rude Staff, Service Stinks! 1/7/2011

The place was empty but we had to go up and ask if our sandwiches were ready after 20 min. The waitress brought them out, we asked about our fries. She brought those out with a huge mouth full of, ""I only have one set of hands."" Wow!\r The prices were high, and not worth it. I will not go back and surprised anyone else does. more

TERRIBLE! Mandatory gratuity on a TO-GO order. 1/3/2011

Our business called in a to-go order from Normandie Cafe. A total of 10 lunches were ordered. 5 of the lunches were sandwiches from the ""pre-made deli case"" and required no additional preparation. The other lunches were sandwiches and one salad. We were charged a 15% gratuity on our TO-GO order. The reason Normandie gave was that the meal was for people over 6 (they have a policy that if your party has 6 or more people a 15% gratuity is charged for IN RESTAURANT SEATING) and additional workwas needed for the meals. PLEASE!! A gratuity is not an automatic charge especially on a to-go order that we picked up. Also out of the 5 made to order items, 3 had mistakes and the food was mediocre at best. We will not be back! more

Amazing Bakery 11/22/2010

They have an awesome bakery. I got a girl some cupcakes from here and it got me laid. I highly recommend it! more

Go for the bakery and nothing else. 6/27/2010

Do NOT miss this bakery, they have some of the best sweets you've ever tasted. Their buttercream cookies are absolutely divine but get there before noon because they go fast! They always have beautiful themed cookies around the holidays and if you're looking for a cake to serve up at a special occasion this is the only place to go.\r \r So why the 2 star rating? They try to be sit down restaurant and it's a complete disaster. At lunch you have to order at the counter and then they bring out your food. Don't expect to see a server again. Even if you purchased a cup of black coffee for $3 you won't get a refill and if you ask about one you're expected to get it yourself. For $3?! It's a complete joke. Pros: Some of the best pasteries around. Cons: They really shouldn't try and do regular meals. more

This is a Bakery...There is no sit down service!! 1/17/2010

This is the BEST hidden bakery in Salt Lake City. Like any other bakery, you will have to wait in line then place your food order at the register. The service is GREAT...have no complains! The BEST lunch sandwiches. Kelsey was wonderful! I would definitely be going back!\r Thanks for serving Great Food and friendly service!\r Pros: The BEST food in SLC Cons: It is a Bakery, So no sit down SERVICE more

Great Bakery with Great Service! 1/9/2010

I was pleasantly surprised to see a GREAT improvement in service at the restaurant compared to when I last visited 5 months ago. Thing seemed to be more organized and the line seemed to be moving 5 times faster. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to the needs of my family.\r \r The restaurant is always busy because the food is so GREAT and they are the busiest at lunch. If you are expecting a sit-down service at lunch, then this is not the place for you because you would walk out disappointed for waiting in line for a long time.\r \r They do have sit down service at dinner.\r Pros: The BEST Sandwiches Cons: No sit down Service...i had to wait 5mins in line more

Are you ready for an experience 9/5/2009

Lunch at the Normandie was an experience. The food was good and the pastries looked wonderful. Let’s talk about service. There is none. We stood in line for at least 15 minutes to give our order. Behind the counter completely lacked organization…this was not controlled chaos, just plain chaos. The food came one plate at a time as well as our drinks. We had to get up 3 times asking for silverware and napkins. They never arrived. \r Finally, one of us went to the bathroom and got papers towels. They definitely need some organization. The service was a running joke our entire meal. It is such a shame. It is a nice area with indoor and outdoor tables and the food was good. Be sure to order the sweet potato fries if you attempt their dining experience.\r Pros: Good food, good location, yummy pastries Cons: Absolutely the worst service more

awe......heaven on earth. : ) 8/10/2009

WOW.....what a beautiful, relaxing, delicious time we had. Normandies was beyond our expectations, excellent food, great atmosphere and very friendly. Best place in Holladay. more

excellent food, poor service 8/9/2009

Took my wife there for a lunch date at 11:30 on a Saturday. Menu and board said brunch ended at 11, but they were still serving and told my wife her sandwich would take longer since lunch menu didn't start until noon (who starts a lunch menu @ noon?). We seated ourselves on the patio (very nice). No one checked on us for 5-10 minutes. When they did, we asked for silverware, water and the bread that comes w/ the meal. 5-10 minutes later, my wife's food arrived (not mine...)....still no water or silverware. Next, my food came and we scavenged some silverware from the table next to us. Asked again for water and bread. Finally received both water and bread. Food was great. Service was terrible. Prices are slightly high. Would get take-out the next time... Pros: food Cons: service more

Normandie Cafe was fabulous 7/14/2009

I took my very dear friend to lunch and found the old location closed. Disappointed, as we had driven over from west valley, we were headed some where else and happened on the lovely new trendy shop. We felt very fortunate, especially after we had eaten. Every thing was only better than it had been at the old location. It was nearly 2 in the afternoon but they were bursting with eager customers, and no wonder. Our vegetable sandwich on 6 grain bread was incredible. The bow tie salad was very tasty and the fresh strawberry dessert not only looked great, as did all the patiserie offering, but tasted great as well, . The dressing on the green salad was too strong so they quickly replaced it and our serving girls were so gracious. I cannot imagine anyone not being pleased unless they were looking for a reason to complain. Pros: Wonderful sandwiches and service Cons: So popular lines were long more

Worst sunday brunch! 6/15/2009

We went in for sunday brunch a little too close to closing time. We should have left from the first angry glare but instead we stayed. It was nothing like I had envisioned for a relaxing sunday brunch with my husband. I asked for a diet coke..they didn't have it..my husband asked for no onions...they put them in (at least they did fix it), and then soon returned to get our plates (of course I would finish first, I started first) but my husband already disapointed with his meal let the guy take his plate. Next time....Market Street Grill (they never dissapoint). I think Mcdonalds would have even been better. more
