This well-appointed spa has virtually everything your hear desires, and more! You can relax by the pool or have a meal at the terrace after your fantastic full body mud treatment....

Worst

I called to book my appointment for the first time, and the woman answered with a standard welcome greeting, and then said "To better assist you, may I have your last name?" WOW! ...

I can feel my laugh lines fading away! 2/8/2009

This well-appointed spa has virtually everything your hear desires, and more! You can relax by the pool or have a meal at the terrace after your fantastic full body mud treatment. Or go for one of those ritual-things that last all day. Ahhhh, I can feel my laugh lines fading away! more

Nice all day spa 7/16/2008

I recently had a mother daughter weekend with 2 of my best girl friends adn their moms. The 6 of us decided to visit Nob HIll Day spa. I'm a huge fan of anything coconut so I got their Thai coconut massage body wrap. It smelled pretty good but wasn't strong enough in my opinon. The massage therapist was very nice, but way way to weak. Since the treatment seemed to be both a body wrap and a massage I wasn't sure which charaterstics it would have more of. It technically was listed under their massage treatments in which case it was not good - the massage therapist was one of the worst I'd ever had. But if it's just a body treatment, then the slight rub was a nice bonus. I decided to go in with the mind set it was only a body treatment so i wouldn't be disappointed. My skin was not any softer after so only book this treatment if you like the smell of faint coconut for a short period of time. My friend got the same treatment and had Patrick and she was blown away with her massage - next time I will ask for him. the other gals got a variety of nail treatments and different massages, everyone left happy. I have not and will not try their facial treatments as I trust my facials only to Tru spa, but if you're experimental they had some interesting choices. the facilities are very pretty. I like having the option to work out, sit in the tub, pool, and other rooms. We were there on a Saturday so it was jam packed and the other patrons were a bit snooty and didn't seem very happy to be sharing their small patio with us. The staff was very friendly and helpful so you never felt lost. I will definitely return, overall it was a fabulous day. Pros: hot tub, pool, outdoor area Cons: expensive more

It's more the top floor of a hotel than a real stand-alone spa 6/10/2007

I went after reading reviews here and was disappointed. It really depends on your expectations I go regularly to Bliss Spa (SF), Lake Austin Spa Resort (Texas) and my other favorite spas around the world are Oriental Hotel (Bangkok) and various spas of that ilk in Bali, Hong Kong, etc. After the raves here, I thought Nob Hill Spa might be something like that. Firstly, it's not a stand-alone spa. It's really the hotel pool and the top floor of the hotel - thus the treatment rooms are converted hotel rooms. You check in at a gift shop. There is no lounge or wait area with magazines or snacks - you just sit around the hotel pool. There aren't that many magazines and the titles aren't good (for e.g. Bliss always maintains Town & Country, Travel & Leisure, etc.) I heard about the infinity pool and the breathtaking views. I was disappointed as the pool is very small and the view is not of the ocean but landward (you look south of Nob Hill towards Portreo, over ugly rooftops); also the view is not panoramic but partially obstructed. The pool is not an infinity pool - an infinity pool is one that has no edges - the waters spill over the the edge. This small pool's water meets the floor (it is level - but that doesn't mean it's infinity). I did not see any fireplaces and was told that only some treatment rooms have fireplaces - so the common areas don't have a fireplace to curl up against. Overall, the decor is 15-25 years old and needs serious renovation. Staff very nice. The touted "Spa Cuisine Menu" by the pool is only the hotel's room service menu, nothing special (Caesar Salad, Burger & Fries). The burger was very good, but it should not be pretending to be spa cuisine. Pros: nice staff, good hotel food Cons: outdated furnishings, hotel pool/heath club pretending to be a standalone spa more

Most relaxing experience 1/1/2007

I went to this spa 3 times, everytime I visit my sister we go here. This is the definition of a day spa. Not only does it have the best view of the city it's so relaxing and the aroma just takes you away. I have had 2 massages & a facial there and they all have been wonderful. In the shower area they have the best smelling bodywash, it's like a lychee sent very clean and refreshing. The staff is so comforting making you feel like you're the only one there. The best part about the spa is the pool area and sun deck. You can spend most of you're day being lazy just sitting on the sun deck or lounging in the pool and jacuzzi. The prices are a little pricey but it's worth every penny in relaxation and unwinding. It's San Fran's best kept secret. Would highly recommend to others! Pros: The breath taking views of the city, the deliciously scented body wash, and the spa itself Cons: the price is a bit high, it can be very busy on the weekend I recommend the weekday more

A little tired? 12/15/2006

My last Nob Hill Spa experience was a disappointment. It was my 5th or 6th time there, and although I really enjoyed my massage, the intent was to linger around and have lunch. We ended up leaving straight away, and having lunch elsewhere. The spa desperately needs a facelift. The locker rooms are horrible, and the main resting area is very average. There are too many other gorgeous spas in the city to have to deal with something so mediocre. Too bad because the location is excellent. Hopefully they"ll renovate. For now, I won't be back. more

A mixed experience 11/11/2006

I visited with my partner, and though we both had good massages our requests for "specific gender" therapists were not honored. I didn't have a preference, but my spouse definitely wanted a female therapist, an this was specified (and I thought agreed to) at the time of booking. Itwasn't forthcoming though. The configuration of the spa is a little odd, and the locker room seemed cramped, even though there were only a couple of people in it when I was there. The lockers were a bit on the small side too. The pool area was attractive, and I think if I was a visitor to San Francisco the outside view in this area could be a highlight. I didn't feel moved to use the pool though, because I don't consider that my rather inept swimming should be a spectator sport, and really, apart from the view, there isn't a whole lot else to look at. San Francisco has a lot of spas, and though a visit here most likely won't be disappointing the price versus the experience make it unlikely that I will return. Pros: Good massage Cons: Pricey for the experience more

Snob Hill Spa 10/18/2006

Pretty and very small spa. Do not go on a weekend. They over book their therapists. They were over booked and I had to wait and wait and wait for my massage. I finally complained thinking maybe someone forgot about me. I had a manager come up to me and explain the situation. She said "may I get you lunch while you wait?" and silly me I was thinking "what great customer service" and they slapped me with the bill at the end of my "day spa". I wasn't going to waste my time complaining about a lunch bill however the manager I dealt with was a bit rude. I know we should never expect anything however I waited and waited for my massage (which was average and rushed) and never got one apology or a discount. I am about to go back to SF and will be finding a different spa. I did have a great private yoga session but it was great enough for me to go back. more

Impersonal Service 10/17/2006

I called to book my appointment for the first time, and the woman answered with a standard welcome greeting, and then said "To better assist you, may I have your last name?" WOW! I just wanted to ask your hours, but instead I already have to give you my last name? It made this place seem like they were only interested in their computer, and what was best for them, not personalizing the experience at all. What a bummer for such an apparently well-respected spa. Meanwhile, after giving my last name, which they addressed me by (a little too formal for a spa), I made my weekend massage appointment. Although they guy who helped me was super nice when I checked in, it was massively overcrowded, very loud by the pool, and I was 5th in line to check out--clearly a sign of too much business at once! This spa is big, but they didn't think how that might ruin the experience--they just seemed like a factory---trying to sell as many appointments as possible! Pros: view, pool Cons: customer service, size, crowd more

Interesting Experience 8/29/2006

I had a great massage here, but the messed up my appoitment and I had to come back on another day! I checked in on a Saturday, and the platinum blonde gal at the front desk said she was having a hard time finding my name in the system. She was very calm and professional, and apologized sincerely when we realized I wasn't booked for a massage. I had just confirmed the day prior! She went to get her managers in their office, who came out a minute or two later. The older manager delt with the situation, but I was somewhat suprised how it was handeled. She was short with me, did not apologize for the mistake, and even hinted that I was the one in the wrong! She said she would get me in for a massage the following afternoon--which fortunatly worked out for me. I figured she would offer to discount it, but when I came in for my massage the next day, she just left me a "day use" pass, Monday through Thursday only! I work very long hours and cannot come in during the week. I found this to be an innappropriate solution to my inconvienence. They were clearly afraid to lose the money with a discount. However, I did have a great massage with Shawna, and I would see her again--however, I would not trust this place to get my appointment right, or deal properly with their errors. Pros: massage Cons: poor problem solving more

I found the perfect massage therapist! 6/5/2006

My body is a mess from injuries, work, and babies. I get regular massages, but I never had luck with a massuese who understood the body or even cared. Until I worked with Yolanda at the Nob Hill Spa. She is amazing!!! She used to work with physical therapists, so she knows her stuff. I've seen her several times over the past three years. I would say her specialty is therapeutic massage for the head, neck and upper back. I come out of there feeling like a new woman. And no more headaches! During the massage, she'll ask how I'm doing and how's the pressure because "it's all about me." When have you met someone that is that devoted to your enjoyment? The massage is a bit pricey, but Yolanda is worth every penny and then some! Pros: customer service, beautiful atmosphere Cons: crowded on weekends, hard to find parking more

Nob Hill Spa Does Not Honor Gift Certificates 4/28/2006

I scheduled an appointment and provided my credit card to hold the reservation. As a courtesy, I told the spa that I would be using a $150 gift certificate. When I arrived at the spa, I was told to wait. A manager came out and told me that someone had screwed up the scheduling and that my appointment was taken by someone else. Even with validation, I paid for parking in the lot next door because of their error. Since I had provided my cell phone at the time I booked the appointment, I have to wonder why no one bothered to call me to inform me of the conflict in advance. The manager was tongue tied. I can only conclude that they bumped me or refused me service because of the gift certificate. Avoid buying anyone a gift certificate at Nob Hill Spa. Cons: Parking, Staff is chilly, Unprofessional more

terrible treatment terrible customer service 3/28/2006

I had a facial at this spa about a year ago and not only was it terrible - the worst I've ever had but when I complained upon checking out (which I have never done before or since that time) they couldn't have cared less, they said we'll give you 10% off - 10% off, not one person cared to hear what the problem was! The therapist was running late and proceeded to rush through my facial - every step was uncomfortable until finally the massage portion! ... which lasted all of 1 or 2 minutes then back to the rush and pain. I tell everyone I can not to waste your money here. The women's locker room was small and cramped. I left my name and phone number, they had every opportunity to try to fix the problem and they did nothing. Pros: can't think of any Cons: painful facial, rude therapist, zero customer service more

Nob Hill Spa Shines 1/22/2006

Unique setting is one of a kind in San Francisco. The best run spa with food as a bonus. more

hit and miss 1/2/2005

the place was a zoo last sunday!!! we had to share a chaisse lounge and many others did too. totally overstuffed. you can't relax when its noisy and packed. last time we went there in the afternoon and it was better so make sure you go at a slow time if you want to enjoy the pool room. i also had to wait in line for a shower!! my massage was nothing to brag about and neither was my facial the last time i went. i go to spas all over the world so i'm picky. the sauna was also cold. THAT IS A NO NO!!!. however, the food is consistently great there and so is the friendly staff and the pool room is beautiful when they don't overpack it! hit and miss so consider these factors if you're considering going! Pros: beautiful pool area, great food, friendly staff Cons: , cold sauna, so so specialists more

not worth it 11/27/2004

City search give this place rave reviews, but Its really over priced and unpersonal. It was just a typical hotel experience nothing great Parking in this neighborhood cost me $20 for an hour and The staff was snotty and had major attitude! Cons: , pretentious staff, expensive parking more

Best in SF! 11/6/2004

I've tried spas all over the country, and this is simply one of the best. My experience comes close to my favorite spa, which is the Anara Spa at the Hyatt on Kauai. I love the steam room there and the towels waiting for you on ice after you are done steaming. The massages are excellent, and the staff is phenomenal. Go with your significant other for a couples massage. The couples massage room is lovely, and it will be an experience the two of you won't soon forget. more

Nob Hill Spa 12/22/2003

My experience at the Nob Hill Spa was fantastic! It was so great that I went back twice in one week. They use great products like: Babor, and Skin Ceutials. I recommend the Scen Tao treatment it is a hot stone massage- facial combo, while you wait for the second part of the treatment the facial, they give you green tea to sip on while you wait it is a pleasent suprise. The treatment is worth your money if you take advantage of the other amenities like the infinity pool and the deck with a view. more

Fabulous, Fabulous, Fabulous 3/17/2003

I travel all over the world for business and have been to some of the most amazing spas, and the Nob Hill Spa surpasses them all. The staff is so attentive and friendly, the services are other-worldly, and the spa infinity pool overlooking the city is incredible. I highly recommend the Nob Hill Spa to anyone looking for San Francisco's most memorable spa experience. Pros: beautiful more

Wow! 3/5/2003

I sit at a computer all day and deal with a lot of deadlines, so I don't get a lot of personal pampering. But I decided to try out the Nob Hill Spa on the recommendation of a friend and I was soooooo happy I did. Of course it's relaxing, and you expect the service to be top notch since the spa sits at the top of Nob Hill. But once you walk into this place you'll understand why I'm bothering to write this review. Stunning views of the city through huge windows, beautiful, soothing interior decor, fireplace, jacuzzi, infinity pool, outdoor deck, delightful food choices - you just get the feeling you're in a rare and very private sanctuary. And the massage was just amazing. I plan to make this at least a weekly experience! Pros: the people, the view, the massage Cons: parking more

feng shui odyssey 3/5/2003

As soon as I enter the Spa, I see the pool below with the nice accent lighting, calming color combinations and fresh scents. The staff welcome me. Then I prepare for the massage and I enter these beautiful feng shui massage rooms that are the nicest I have ever been in. By the time I am done with my massage, I forget that I am in the city. Pros: friendly, beautiful, clean and fresh Cons: parking more

The spa offers several types of massages, but most treatments have a more cosmetic slant. Facials utilize ingredients like green tea, champagne and gingko along with the usual cleansers and exfoliants. Among the six available body treatments: a spirulina wrap, an aromatic blue-cypress herbal detoxifying wrap and the vitamin cocktail--a body wrap that delivers massive doses of A, C and E to hydrate and protect the skin from environmental stress.

    The Details
Pool (indoor), Jacuzzi, sauna, steam rooms, yoga (fee), weight room (fee). Massage and skin treatments.
