Very fresh susshi 4/22/2009

Most of the reviews I read are over a year old so I thought I would update as of April 2009. We had a very nice meal here. The staff was friendly and accomodating. The fish was very fresh and nicely prepared. Would definitely go back. Pros: fresh fish, nice drinks, nice staff Cons: none that come to mind more

Poor, Poor Service 12/17/2007

Living around the corner, I have visited this place a few times. The food is decent. However, the service is not so good. Last visit, our order was taken and food came about 15 min served by someone out of the kitchen. Not sure, where our waiter was, because we hadn't received our drinks yet. \r \r Tonight we arrived around 6:30 PM, there was around 8-9 tables of customers. The host seated us at the back of the restaurant behind the sushi bar when there were plenty of seats open. After about 15 min of no service, we made contact with the waiters...no order yet. The host peeked back around the corner, so we waited about 5 more minutes hoping he would find someone for us. No such luck . We finally decided after 20 minutes to leave. As we walked toward the door, the 2 hosts turned and started talking to each other and completed ignored us as we walked out the door. I have never been treated so rude. Pros: Good location. Cons: Poor service. Rude host and hostest. more

What trendy is and good is not 5/21/2007

This restaurant is a joke. Unless you are treasuring generic high-tech interiors, high attitude of personal and drag shows more then your food you should not even consider visiting. This is a good example of what trendy is and good is not. Pros: Generic/familiar Japanese cuisine for novice Cons: Rather sloppy and high attitude service + Generic/familiar Japanese cuisine for novice more

lousy treatment of customer 4/27/2007

Don't go there. The ""complimentary"" valet is a rip-off. After spending $100 at the restaurant, I walked across the street for about 10 minutes. When I returned, the valet guys intimidated me into paying $10 dollars before they would give me my car. They threatened to call the police if I didn't pay. They did this AFTER I had already given them their tip. What a lousy way to treat a long-term loyal customer that has given that business hundreds of dollars over the years. I will never go there again after such a miserable experience. more

Fresh Sushi, cool ambiance 12/10/2006

We love this Sushi place and the restaurant itself is really cool looking. It is the tipical midtown crowd after all!! The sushi is always fresh and the service is generally impecable (although we have had not super friendly waiters in a couple of ocassions). Pros: Great sushi Cons: It could be a little loud more

Not the best sushi I ever had 11/9/2006

The restaurant is cool but he sushi is a little weird. It's like they tried too hard to jazz it up and I like more of the traditional sushi rolls. Not recommended for the sushi purist. more

not the place to go if you know sushi 10/31/2006

Nikimogo's is a really nice restaurant. It looks good and atomosphere is awsome. However, as for sushi (I dont know about other menus), the restaurant is below average. Not only the portion is ridiculously small and it is over priced, sushi at nikimoto's is not authenic. As an native japanese and someone who used to work at a sushi place, I know that sushi chefs there are not experienced at all. So, if you want to grab some americanized suhsi at a fashionable place, it is a good place to go but if you really enjoy sushi, not recommended. Pros: sushi, price Cons: atomosphere, service more

Best Sushi 10/28/2006

The sushi is awesome. Try the dragon roll and Yami Yami roll. Those are the best. The fried rice is also great. more

Casual consistancy 9/18/2006

Fantastic! This is one of the few restaurants that has resisted the trend in jacking up the prices. There is always something going on inside, and the outdoor patio is well dressed. I love the catfish..best cooked fish in the city! The sushi is not high-end, but is still fresh and well-priced. The service is great...friendly and fun. PS...strongest drinks I've ever been served. Pros: service, prices, drinks Cons: parking more

Love it 6/26/2006

This is one of the only places I go where I always get the same thing. The Yami Yami Roll is my favorite sushi roll ever. The crab rangoons are excellent too. Service can be a little slow- the last 2 times I've been we waited over 10 minutes before even being greeted by our server. Although when they finally do show up service is always friendly. Pros: ambience, food Cons: slow service more

Inconsistent Quality, Long Waits, Rude Management 6/2/2006

On our last visit, we waited 35-40 minutes for a booth. We were offered sushi bar seats, but declined due to the noise and long waits there. We got a booth and were greeted by a rude server. Our attention soon shifted to the next booth and the SHRIEKING child occupying. The noise continued and I asked our server if the manager would mind asking the parents to be considerate of other diners. She came back, saying the manager had replied that we could 'go to the sushi bar.' I ended up with a headache and didn't enjoy my meal, which was lackluster at best. We spoke with the manager, who said she knew the couple with the child & they'd been coming for years longer than us, and stated the opinion that we had a problem, and not vice versa. Cons: noisy, long waits, horrible parking more

Getting Better 1/22/2006

I used to come here when it first opened years ago and truly enjoyed the experience. Overtime the quality began to go down. I recently decided to give it another shot and I'm happy I did. They still have the Tuesday $1 sushi nights. The quality and presentation has gone up dramatically. Note: This isn't traditional sushi like Hashiguchi, Sushi Huku or Imari. It's what I like to call fun sushi. It is tons fresher than RuSans. The atmosphere is mixed and fun. Dress is casual to dressy casual. Good for dates & large groups. Big round booths are the most fun. Patio is nice in warm weather. Pros: value, food, service Cons: interior paint colors more

Delicious, Casual, Fun 12/1/2005

Always a treat. Great servers, food, and ambience! Try the dragon roll or yami yami, they're the best. Purple Haze sake is great for cold nights! Pros: Food, Service, Sushi more

hot date restaurant & yummy food 10/22/2005

The food is delicious and the atmosphere is great! Tip - if you have an Entertainment Guide coupon book, you save big here. If you buy the book, what you save with using the coupong just for this restaurant pays for the book. Pros: food, atmosphere, coupons more

Great for lunch 4/7/2003

Consistent sushi and wide variety of other Asian foods, so those who like to experiment will have a good time as well as those just going for sushi. Much better for lunch - less crowded, choice of tables, and better service. Pros: food, variety, location Cons: crowded at dinner more

hip joint 11/26/2002

slow tuesday night for a 1st timer at this trendy joint. get a booth if you can, they are great! this place is kinda posh for a sushi restaurant...and of course it's location, both of which equal higher than normal sushi prices. Pros: location, service, hip Cons: parking, prices more

Edible art???? 11/22/2002

If you've never had sushi prepared by a true sushi-chef(minimum of seven years of study),then you'll probably enjoy the sushi here and anywhere else they ""crank out"" the food with no attention to detail, textures,or presentation. A true sushi-dining experience is a combination of atmosphere, the sushi chef engaging in conversation with you as he/she prepares your order with high quality seafood and other ingredients. Pros: location, people watching, valet parking Cons: service inconsistency, being stared at, lack of any tradition more

WEAK 10/13/2002

I had a veg dish w/ tofu & veggies, the tofu was about half-cooked & the veggies were limp & swimming in sauce. My sis had some sushi & some noodles both were sub-par, avoid the hype & rep this place has & treat yourself to something good. Pros: location Cons: food, service more

great 9/1/2002

good time and great service...enjoyed all aspects of the place... more

Not for Sushi 6/17/2002

Skip the sushi--it's mediocre at best; scary at worst-and order dumplings or something safe like tempura or one of the ""pan-Asian"" noodle dishes. Location is great. Patio is lovely. Why can't the sushi be as nice. Pros: nice patio Cons: bad sushi more
