Great Visit 7/13/2011

Had a great time at the Aquarium. Love the scuba diver at the show. Answered all my questions. You should tell you usher however when they are facing us and they let us in we should go right, not left. We were told to go left when we went in to be seated, I smiled right and the girl said left. She was facing me and the others. Get it? If we had turned left we all would have been hitting the wall (or side of the ship) the seats were on our right. She didnt get it. Of well. The underwater show was Great. Couldn't hear some of what he said because the children were so excited about the fish there was a lot of talking. ( By the way The people who came by on their way to the Cin. Airport probably have seen bigger aquariums, sorry they were disappointed.) This one is pretty cool for Ohio. The penquins were really, really good but need a bigger area to swim in. The MC of the show did a great job (no better then great job) interacting with the TV Monitor and the penquins. He also interacted with the people in the seats. Smart move. Very smart. Very impressive. keep up the good work. Only draw back was having to move very fast to get seats since we saw the otters first. I love otters and couldnt wait to see them. All seats were filled and the people couldn't wait to see the otters fed. As we waited in great anticipation and as the otters excitment grew, the feeder of the otters finally arrived. Yeh! Everyone let out a sigh because we were in the rainforest and we were a little hot, sorry a lot hot. I am not sure why you even avertised the feeding of the otters. The young man didn't smile, didn't acknowledge our presence and looked like he would rather be dipped in oil and set on fire. Oh, forget that, he probably would not have even notice. Seriously, the other acts really got into it. What Happened? What was will this guy. No life at all and I know they are just otters but even the otters looked like they wanted to go to sleep with everyone else. Yes, they did eat the food but come on. If you are going to feed the otters at least look like you want to ge there. Talk to the otters. Sure they may not care the paying customer does. I felt he could have carried less if anyone was there. Even the children were dissapointed. He finally drags himself back into the door he came from and we wait. The questions that I heard and was thinking "Is that it"? "Is he coming back"? Is he going to do anything else"? Look maybe you don't think otters are a big draw and maybe you told the young man just to go give the otters some food, I don't know but Don't advertise if that is all there is. Just throw the food in a pile and leave. Very dissapointed about otters. BUT the Jelly Fish Room was out of this world. Loved it. A woman came in with a very pretty summer long dress on and and idea popped into my mind. You should have your gus and girls dress up in evening attire and walk around in the room with that beautiful music. It would draw more attention. Great job on the Jelly Fish Room. I am bringing my husband Thur. July 14th. He will like it until we get to the otters. He likes otters also. Please, please have someone feed them that looks like they care. The shop was okay. Great for kids, but mine are all grown up and gone. There was no adult jewelry, just cheap stuff for the children. There were some pieces that I liked but over priced. All in all, not a bad place to spend a few hours. I also know you have improved areas and that was good. Keep up the good work. Sincerely Teresa, Ohio more

Dont waste your money 8/24/2009

We took friends who had a 6 year old that were visiting from TN. Luckily I had free tickets that I had won at a work function. But we still had to buy one adult ticket, 20 bucks! The entire visit there took less than 2 hours. We couldnt find anyone to ask questions to about the animals. They only had two ticket windows open and the line was at least 25 people deep to purchase tickets. The place was not easy to find from the garage. The gift shop was very outdated and overpriced. We went to one show where we got to watch divers but we couldnt hear half of what she was saying. Much better value to go the zoo, which we did the next day. Cons: not a good value, no staff to be found more

Don't waste youir money! 5/20/2007

We had a few hours to waste before our flight out of Greater Cincinnati airprot; so, we decided to try the Aquarium First, there were 3 people working the front area; but, only one person manning the cash register. She was filling out an application for a year pass for someone. Meanwhile, the line was 10 deep. No one else seemed to know how to work the other registers to take our money! Half of the displays were empty (dead fish?), 2 were totally closed down for repair (this was not told to us at time of purchasing the tickets). Some displays also had no explanation of what you were supposed to be looking at.. The worst part? We spoke with a manager about the issues and she basically told us "too bad". She also admitted it might be a good idea to put a sign up regarding closed displays! I feel sorry for families who pay a hefty admission price for this dump! Newport may have cleaned up their red light district; but, they are still scamming people! Don't waste your money... Pros: nearby attractions Cons: value, no displays more

exciting 8/8/2002

The Newport Aquarium is an excellent place to take your family and spend time exploring all the animals. You can look or touch. Its an exciting way to teach your children about the water creatures. Pros: family fun, learning experience, hands on Cons: ticket price is steep more

Different worlds 7/23/2002

If you don't get the chance to travel to all of the different parts of the world, take the time to travel here. Some areas are interactive and it is just flat out neat to see all of the different creatures. The shark tank is by far one of the best exhibits. more

Zoo is a better value 6/11/2002

While I feel the Newport Aquarium was a needed addition to Cincinnati's entertainment venues, I think it's overall execution is fair at best. The exhibits, while breathtaking, are laid out in a poor manner, forcing visitors to stop at their overpriced concession area (whose food left something to be desired - like perhaps a roll of Tums). The penguin exhibit was very cute, although small - the Cincy Zoo had a larger exhibit. Then it was on to the gift shop, which harbored perhaps the best gift of all - the only exit. The absolute worst thing about the Aquarium, though, is the price. I'd hesitate to bring more than 2 people there, much less an entire family, unless I'd inherited a large sum of money. The Cincy Zoo is a far better alternative for families, and is much cheaper. Pros: Beautiful Decor, Great Attractions, Somewhat Unique Cons: Horribly Expensive, Very Poor Layout, Stupidly Expensive more
